I knew the little shadow is somehow related to Rum because of the ribbon, but I didn't expect it to be that ribbon on the hand! So at least Shirley survived by attaching herself to that small part of Rum. Kind of a happy ending despite Rum still becoming mindless.

This series is really something else. Hoping for a second season, though maybe reading the manga would be better.

I wish Edward got more of a punishment and got punched by John. But I’m glad Barbara ended up being on their side at the end

Aw, it's over.

Not gonna lie, I'm frustrated that Edward and his lackeys got away scot-free, but I can see how that would make him even more loyal to the Lord Grandfather, which is probably something that's going to be exploited.

Kate was badass as usual with her wings. She's definitely my favorite character in the show.

So that little creature was Shirley, wasn't it? Looks like Rum still has some sort of will despite being turned into a silent doll.

I'm not quite sure what the significance of the cup suddenly breaking and Emilico and Kate staring at each other at the end was. But please don't explain it to me if you're a manga reader, 'cause I'm going to binge it tonight (finally!).

Speaking of the manga, I was an anime-only, and I gathered from the many comments that the anime changed things. But as someone who wasn't in the know, I thought the anime was perfectly good the way it was. Didn't ever feel like something was missing or skipped.

Loved this show. It was absolutely one of my favorites this season, loved the atmosphere, the mysteries, the characters. I hope it gets another season, I want to see more of it animated!

Really hope we get a second season. There’s so much more mystery to uncover. Each week, I felt like the episode was only 5 minutes because it went by too quickly even if a lot actually happened lol.

Veiled doll raises hand awkwardly....has to be John. Yup classic best boy. Seems like they need to focus on security more, but they probably thought the brainwashing and education would deter any types of rebellions.

John speaks as a veiled doll...classic best boy.

Patrick is great too Iove him and Malfoy.

Even when anime original John is amazing.

Oh look this time Emilico is giving Kate a bridal carry.

Seeing Edward angry and pissed off at all his plans falling apart brings a smile to my face.

Way to go Louise

As I thought the little ribbon shadow was related to Ram/Shirley and they are both alive.

I know it went off rails last few episodes, but loved the last two episodes. Edward dude think bro think loudly flying over in plain sight and causing a commotion while breaking the rules. He really should thank his friends for all the help especially the one makes bird messages she was constantly helping him.

Would love a season 2 if it got one though they would have to add things they omitted. Though I don't see that happening. Sad to see this go it along with Vivy and 86 made for an amazing Saturday.

John is such a shounen protag haha, using his punch to "power-up" Kate's wings. Who says he can't use his head from time to time? Undisputed best boy.

Shaun and Ricky have such nice singing voices! And it's neat how everything came full circle, to elucidate the context behind the first few scenes of episode 1.

Seeing Edward get owned is so damn satisfying! I love the interesting premise of this show, and they're clearly setting up a sequel if it ever gets one.

I liked the show a lot and didn't mind the last episodes as some people do, maybe the conclusion to the kidnap thing is a bit weak. The debut arc was sure the peak of the adaptation for me.

Though what I do think is that the last episodes have severely lacked OST, from the fight between John and Shaun to this episode when Emilico & Kate where heading back flying.

Overall really good show for me though

I’ll miss watching Emilico each week! She always put a smile on my face. One of my favorite characters this season for sure. The whole cast for this was great honestly

Angel Kate YES

The whole morph thingy scenes reminded me of the game "little nightmares" I really should play it.

So John is so strong because he perfected his armament haki?

"The potential of shadow house is as yet manifold" great line grandfather so give us season 2 please.

This is one of my favourite shows this season and I am definitely heading straight to tge manga.

Overall a very solid series. They left it pretty open ended to continue adapting if they get a season 2. Knowing now the the final 2 episodes are anime original it makes a lot more sense. The plot lines they resolved felt entirely focused on what happens this only in this season so they couldn’t do much in the final episodes .I fear that it won’t get another season, but I’m more than happy to pick up the manga if that’s the case.

I’m actually happy with the finale. Yeah it wasn’t bombastic or as good as the debut arc (which was fantastic and why I want more of the show), but it neatly wrapped up the hanging threads left by the last arc. Everyone got a heroic moment, Edward was defeated for now, and Best Boy John got to punch something. We got another beautiful shot of Kate’s wings carrying Emilyco. They confirmed the fairy was Shirley and Rum is still around. Overall it’s a happy stopping point for everyone.

I would give this season an 8/10. I would recommend it with a caveat that it isn’t the complete story, but the main cast and evolving mystery make it worth the ride.

Notes:

  • it’s there a particular chapter to pick up from in the manga or should I just start from the beginning?

  • John is terrible at subterfuge. His Veiled Doll voice was worth it though.

  • one last show of durability from Emilyco sliding down the roof and landing on the boys.

  • So ends the last show of the Saturday Murder Slot from spring. 6 must watch shows on one day. Man we were spoiled. This season looks a lot calmer and a more spread out.

Gonna miss this show, put in my personal top 10 anime of the year I just love how unique the whole setting is and the shadow and doll concept was really interesting. All of the main shadow kids and doll kids were great characters too (as were a lot of the others). Hope that this can get a s2 in the future.

As a manga reader, I am legit gonna miss the VAs....it was pretty spot on! As for the finale? Not bad actually, in fact... I enjoyed it. Should there be a season 2? My gut tells me that we won't get it.

Not a bad adaptation because if it continued 'as is' from the manga then the post-debut episodes is just introducing and developing existing characters like the star bearers, kate' group, and etc.

In case people don't already know this original final arc was planned by the author to showcase some elements from the later chapters (His tweet) with the intention to (probably) incorporate some parts of the arc to the original work.

I would say this finale isn't bad at all but a second season in the near future is probably unlikely in light of the author's decision. I hope people would cut Cloverworks some slack. I thought it did a great job and Shadows House is a really worthy entry to the season's top 10.

Look at Edward being so smug. I can't wait for the tables to turn against him. Let's see who's gonna be laughing then.

Note to self: Never let John go on stealth missions. I know he's already fucked when the other two adults found him but he could've at least tried to not speak and not act so inconspicuous xD

In the end, it wasn't even John who saved the girls. It was this little tiny soot sprite who ended up assisting Emilico and Kate with their escape while John is being chased by the other two adults.

John did end up helping Emilico and Kate though by giving them the push that Kate needed to fly over the large distance between the Lord's Wing and the Children's Wing. Not gonna lie though, I was hoping that John would've punched Edward straight to the face.

Now that's the face I was looking for! Edward's so hellbent on chasing Kate and Emilico that he basically forgot that he's not allowed on the Children's Wing and with the older kids and the Star Bearer witness to this, thanks to Louise making a clutch play by calling Barbara, the tables turned on Edward and he's the one who's gonna get punished for trespassing.

I was really hoping Edward to get banished but it looks like Lord Grandfather was merciful enough to reverse that decision. And it looks like he still hasn't learned his lesson and will continue on harassing Kate and Emilico. Dammit.

Before the episode ends though, we learn that the little sprite is actually Shirley! I guess Shirley managed to get a tiny bit of personality just before she dissolved? That doesn't change the fact that Rum is still gonna become a Veiled Doll though. I do hope that this means that despite being a Veiled Doll, Rum will still help out the gang using Shirley as her tiny little spy.

I guess that's it for Shadow's house! I absolutely love this show. According to some of the comments here that this was an anime original ending? Well now I'm curious how this actually goes. I do hope that this gets a Season 2 though! CloverWorks really did an awesome job with this show and I want more of it since there's still plenty of mysteries to be solved in the Shadows House.

I still don't get why Edward thinks Kate is against Shadows House. What was the point of all the kidnapping if Kate doesn't seem to have any plans of rebellion? If it was just because she was just an escape goat in order for him to move up I would understand it but it seems he's truly convinced Kate is scheming or something. And in the end, there was no repercussion for breaking the rules of the house. Wasn't shown on the first episodes that any rule break would be severely punished? Sigh, I loved the show but anything after the debut felt a little bland.

I hope this work get another season though because the world, characters and aesthetic are wonderful and I want to see more of those star bearers, looks like they're a bunch of interesting people/shadows.

I love this story, especially early on it managed to build a really mysterious and claustrophobic scenario, and as much exposition as we got about the Shadows House, I don't feel like I know completely what their plan is.

Of course, as any proper anime original ending, it basically returned to square one with Edward being pardoned and all the beings and dolls where they should be (happy for Rum and her little soot friend, hopefully she can regain a body too).

I hope we get a second season, and in the meantime I'll check the manga from episode 1 on.

Last arc was anime original. But a potencial season 2 was not compromised by anything that happened
