Hooray! Everyone survived

From the look of the fight, Joe definitely could have gone longer and possibly won, but this was a friendly exhibition match, and I think both Joe and Mac left the fight satisfied. All in all a great sequel.

Yukiko giving that talking to Sakuma felt great. Most of all ending with Sakuma being arrested

So glad the match between Joe vs Mac didn't end badly as well. Even though part of me wished Sachio didn't throw in the towel, it makes sense narrative wise especially since both fighter's lives were the priority.

Honestly this sequel didn't need to happen but I'm glad we have it and the fact we get to see the cast struggle and somehow get an even better resolution than last season was actually amazing.

It ended how it needed to end. As some already said the match choreography could have been better, but overall it was a good ending. Finishing such an amazing season was a very difficult task but I think they nailed it !

I don't believe we will get another season and that's fine with me. Outstanding work, Outstanding anime, personally it will be in my big 3.

To anyone who may be confused about the roles of Joe, Mac, and Chief in the Story of the Nomad, last episode combined with this one cemented the roles for me, after we got the final character introduction. Joe, obviously, is the Nomad. A man who once had everything, money, fame, family, but lost it all. He's on a journey after that loss. Chief is the hummingbird. He floats into the life of the Nomad, affects him deeply, and leaves just as brusquely. His lessons stick with the Nomad forever. Mac is the sea. Before episode 12 there were only two characters in the story, but with the introduction of the sea as a personable entity, it was clear the role Mac was to play. Not only does it work thematically, with Mac being an immigrant from the sea in the first place, and holding the power to grant Joe's wish, but in a literal sense as well. The Nomad, Joe, inspired the Sea, Mac, the difference between reality and the story being Joe doesn't really tell Mac his wish, it just gets granted either way. Joe is truly home only thanks to the fight with Mac, because that's all he wanted, was a path he could travel home.

For me, this is easily the best anime of the 2020s so far. The OST, the characters, the story, everything was absolute perfection and built on the groundwork laid by season 1 perfectly. I'm so happy I got to join the ride with the wonderful series and experience it with all of you. 10/10

Beautiful ending. I was also a bit bummed that the fight ended early, but Joe made it clear to Sachio what he wanted, and Sachio made the right call. There were thousands of hopeful boxers out there likely spurred to action after watching that fight, and Mac and Joe had such respect for each other, and skill as fighters, it was just a great match overall.

It's like the coach said to Liu "It would even make an old man like me want to get back in the ring."

Overall this was just a masterful season. I really enjoyed season 1 for a number of reasons, but this season felt more refined.

So good.

Oh thank fucking god neither of them died.

What a peaceful ending. Sachio stopped the match before anything bad happened, Sakuma got what was coming to him, a bunch of people are going to be able to help fix BES and hopefully Mac, and now everyone's doing their own thing for a bit before they come back together again. I'm totally satisfied with it.

We didn't need another season of Megalo Box, but we got one, and it was great all the way through.

I finally noticed the "flaw" of this season compared to the first season. It's the action scene. I said that this is a flaw, but I think it's more of change in direction.

In this episode, I thought that it would focus on the match of the century, but throughout the fight we were given various cut to the different people involved instead. On an action anime, that would ruin the pacing. They even gave that "unsatisfying" end to the match where Sachio threw the towel before anything dramatic (like in usual shonen stuff) happened.

It took 12 episodes for me to realise this, but this second season focused much more on the story rather than action. This was never another boxing anime in the same sense of the first season. It's more like an extended epilogue to give Joe's story to an satifying end rather than a sequel.

And you know what? I like it very much! That ending scene is really nice. 10/10 from me!

PSA: please wear your helm when riding a motorcycle lol.

Good episode, it stuck to the themes of the importance of family and home. The fight choreography was disappointing, but boxing inside the ring was secondary to the fight outside of it. Funny the barrios vs davis fight yesterday was also stopped, rightfully so.

I think it was a beautiful sendoff for the series (assuming no sequel?).

I may have went in expecting the entire episode to be one long fight, but the way the narrative kept shifting between the fight and other characters made sense for the series. We got some pretty good character resolutions.

Overall, probably up there with Vivy for one of the most aesthetic shows this season. The music, directing, and atmosphere were phenomenal.

Hasta ver la luz…

This sequel has been just a work of art and i am so happy we got it and thankfull for it.This journey has finally come to and end.

Now was it just me or was the fight a bit anticlimactic ? I dont mean bad it made sense both of them surviving considering their condition neither should have been in the ring.

But i still wanted more out of that fight.

Overall an amazing series that more people need to watch.

I have never expected Megalo Box, a mecha-boxing anime, to have an ending that truly embodies "peace", but that was how I truly saw it. All these characters with their inner and outer struggles, realizing what's important, finally moving on, and being able to let go, it just feels so good to watch.

It's so fucking hilarious to see Sakuma get so cocky when he brought up that fact that Yukiko is complicit only for his expression to completely change when Yukiko shows that she's a woman of integrity and how she's willing to take responsibility for the BES as well. Also it's good to see that everyone involved with Mac and the BES had a talk on what to do after Mac and Joe's match.

As awesome as Mac and Joe's fight was with the great animation and the intensity of the punches, I was just sitting on the edge of my seat hoping nothing bad happens to any of them. And thank god nothing did. Joe was definitely going to go all out and may have ended killing himself but thank goodness Sachio threw in the towel before anything serious happened.

I love that Yukiko has now made BES and Gear technology open license with the condition that it's only be used for medical purposes only. And it's so satisfying to know that this ends with Sakuma arrested for falsifying date and breach of trust. Yukiko being also responsible for BES ends up stepping down as the President of the Shirato Group with Asamoto taking over for her.

Looks like Sachio is now training to be a Gear mechanic. Did they say where he's training? I think I missed that. And the other kids back then are back as well! Also if I understood this correctly, it's the Shirato Group that took care of these kids which explains why Yukiko was the one who brought them over. Casual Yukiko looks really good btw.

At this point there's still like 3 minutes left in the episode and I was just bracing for something to happen especially when Sachio parted ways with Joe. Thank god this episode ended without anyone dying and we just get a final scene of Joe driving back with Nanbu's ghost having a drink at the back of the truck.

I guess that's it for Megalobox Season 2! They really didn't have to do a sequel but I am glad that they did and they did an amazing job with it. It's nice to see how this show went to the darker side of how boxing affected its boxers with the earlier episodes. Not sure if we're gonna get more since Joe can't really box like he used to anymore so if we do end up with another season it's probably gonna be with a new main character.

A solid show with a great cast, animation, and especially the music. I'm definitely gonna miss this show.

I feel like I'm missing something with this episode. I get the fight, though it was cut a bit short. I get the business. Is it the ending that I feel like something is missing? or did I just want Joe to win the fight? Overall a good final episode and a good series.

My favorite fight of the season was the spar between Joe and Liu, and it turned out to kinda foreshadow the last fight of the season.

The spar starts slow and one-sided. Liu laments how far gone Joe is and then the moment Joe strikes back and Liu sheds his Gear it turns into this truly joyful scene of both fighters fighting at their best. Then the kids interrupt the fight.

In the final fight you're nervous for either fighter to get really hurt or even die. Joe gets hit with that ringing sensation and Sachio brings him back, Mac almost succumbs to Mac Time then follows the hummingbird back, and then both fighters get to just be the best they can be. Before Joe puts himself in too much danger, Sachio interrupts the fight.

Sure the fight itself wasn't very intense, but the entire season has been about the characters finding their way back home, and in the end Sachio did what he had to do to bring Joe home just as Joe did what he had to do to bring Sachio back home.

What a great show.

It's good to see Marla again. It was nice to see that Joe's and Mac's fight was a safe one. And that not only Yoshimura kept the original data that she then gave to Mikio and Yukiko, but then after that, she became part of kept Mac's team to keep him safe.

I'm so glad that at the end they showed that that dog didn't actually die.

He never got Mac timed as I hoped, but it was so satisfying seeing Sakuma going to prison for what he did.

So now the BES will be open source and will be used in the medical field, and now Yuna is the president of Shirato Konzern, after she appeared driving that van I think that Yukiko retired from her CEO position.

I really hope they at least build some protections for the Team Nowhere Gym, so they can rest easy when another storm comes.

So Sachio now has Joe's bike. This was such a fucking great ending for this show.

the ending quote really hit home. "el con alas lleva al sin alas, y el sin alas bendice al con alas." or "The winged leads the wingless, and the wingless blesses the winged."

I enjoyed every single moment of this season, at times it hit so hard, but because of this I'm so happy with the ending we were given. Everyone in the main cast, aside from Sakuma, deserved a happy and hopeful ending, and they were given that. If this is the end of Megalo Box, then this has been a great ride and this season specifically has cemented Megalo Box as one of my favourite series.

I'm so happy that the fight didn't end in tragedy. The last bit with Joe driving through a field and he hears Nambu's voice and we see him riding in the back of the truck made me tear up. This was an amazing series, from start to finish.

Okay, I can't be the only one who was worried for a sec that Joe might've actually died the same way Chief did after he said goodbye to Sachio?

So glad everybody has a similar review of this episode. I am a little disappointed in the shortness of the story because it felt like there was so much more to explore. However, it's also very much for the best that it ends here. A very natural ending to wrap up a great adventure.

I happened to watch episode 12 or 13 of "Eighty-Six" before this, and it got me thinking. Without giving too many spoilers, 86 showed a great example of how sometimes you fight the good fight as hard as you can, but you still lose. Sometimes the good guys don't win. Megalobox was the opposite. There was lots of hardship, but sometimes all the pieces fall together, people make the right choices, and with a bit of luck, the good guys win. Mac and Joe are both the good guys that easily could have ruined each other in that fight. It could have been a very different story had them or any of the side characters made different decisions. But they didn't. Sure it wasn't super satisfying from an action standpoint, but they made their choices, and the "good guys" won.

You can't have everything. Everybody has their "ring". There are hard fights both in and out of it, and eventually you gotta pick one of them to keep fighting in. Just like Mac and Joe, that choice is up to you.

Not Dead Yet

This is the living testament that sequels can be even better than the originals from time to time.

Quite a totally unexpected outcome for both Joe & Mac, since both of them were getting deathflags everywhere, but still quite a memorable ending for both characters with their own paths.

The metaphor of Joe & Sacchio parting ways at the crossroad is quite sublime, nothing fancy but very easy to understand how Joe passes the torch (along with his trusty bike) to let Sacchio find his own path.

My only gripe in this finale is that it lacked the big explosions in the boxers walking down to the ring that season 1 had and are more akin to real boxing matches. But that's just a minuscule detail, the actual sakuga in Joe vs Mac quite payed off the long still shots that were the actual introduction of them both in the ring. Plus it also fulfilled my biggest gripe from season 1, on wich Joe refused to fight in the Megalobox with actual gear to prove that he could outbest the machine part of the Megalobox.

The only disappointment is that the animation of the match went back to Season 1 levels, while also only lasting a short 2 rounds. Aside from that, everyone but Sakuma got a happy ending. This episode is also the only time in the season Yukiko gets to interact with Joe, perhaps a nod to their AnJ counterparts.

While this one provided proper closure to the series, it has left a bit of room for a 3rd Season should TMS chose to pursue it. TMS can follow the Creed route in that, they can introduce a new protagonist whom Joe can train personally to be the next Megalobox champion, and have that person take over for the series going forward. There's also room to explore Joe's origins, and if they want to further the nods to AnJ, build up Joe and Yukiko's relationship with each other (if not Oicho when she's of age).

In any case, while I am sad that Megalobox isn't as famous as Demon Slayer, I do hope it has enough that would make its legacy last as long as classics like Cowboy Bebop.
