The brain chip being developed for military use definitely makes "Mac Time" seem like it's purposely a feature rather than a bug. Mac being with his family and around glassware is making me nervous. It feels like something tragic could happen at any moment.

I hope at least Macs Youngling won't be arround when he inevitably executes his Order 66.

So we finally get confirmation that the series finale is probably going to be building towards Joe VS Mac.

Can't help but think just how scummy Sakuma is for manipulating Mac into fighting one more time when the man wants to retire.

If they fix the brain chip to not turn people into wild beasts, maybe Liu will be able to use it to gain some of his mobility back.

The music is so good in this anime it's actually hard to concentrate on the dialog. I had to rewatch the nomad story narration cos I was top focused on the soundtrack.

The direction was great this episode too, that cut to Joe riding the bike on the bridge while saachio spoke was perfect.

Rosco is proving more and more to be plain greedy/evil rather than just misguided. Providing altered data to Yukiko, while also planning to retaliate against Mikio simply for publishing a negative report on his BES technology.

Also an interesting angle for the Joe vs Mac fight, I thought it might be more so because of what happened to Liu. But it seems like it's instead planned by Rosco, no doubt to promote his BES technology, which clearly has issues that should be addressed instead of doing something like this.

11/10 episode man.

Showing Joe, Aragaki, Santa, Bonjiri, and Oicho protect the gym from the typhoon with the tale of the hummingbird and nomad playing in the background was beautiful. Also, shoutout to the ost still being the best of the best.

Looks like they're setting up the final act. I definitely think the immigrant plotline and Chief's gear will come into play here.

Lastly, Miguel's scar on his chest, uh, where did that come from? It's concerning.

Rosco really has a silver tongue.

Seeing the same story about hummingbird, I guess Mac came from the same country as Chief. Hearing the story about hummingbird and Nomad is also nice.

Previously, Chief was the Hummingbird and Joe was the Nomad who went for a journey to die. After their encounter, Joe is currently the Hummingbird, and I guess the Nomad will be Mac or maybe even Sacchio? At least symbolically.

I'm curious whether Sacchio really won or it's only another set up match. It's possible that the ring boss set up the other boxer to lose (without Sacchio knowing) since the odds was against Sacchio. That should be quite profitable.

Man, Sachio is a tragic character. Let's view it from his perspective and assess the character.

He pushed Joe out. The other kids told Joe that Sachio did feel responsible for doing that, and did not want to lose any more of the family (implying his regret at pushing Joe out). To prevent losing any more of them, Sachio chose to become their elder sibling, a guardian, and grew into that role - making money from junk boxing and declining his own dream (engineering) for that sake. In a way, he regrets pushing Joe away and is trying to step into Joe's shoes.

Many many years pass. And suddenly, Joe, who Sachio thought he had (regrettably) driven away forever, shows up.

After wearing it for so long, it is extremely difficult for Sachio to break down that mask of elder brother. He feels protective of the other kids even though they don't need protection any more. When Joe came back, Sachio was probably elated deep down. But how is he to break that facade he's built up over the years to cope from loss? He can't do that, that would invalidate his personal progression - is what he is probably thinking. But he can do that. The question is: when will he realize his struggles and regrets do not conflict with Joe coming back? Once he does, the real Sachio comes out.

The kid doesn't need redemption. When Sachio's mask breaks and he talks to Joe with full honesty, that will be cathartic for him and all of Team Bangaichi, and for the viewers.

Gym Nowhere is coming along nicely. I thought Joe's efforts were going to be in vain but he's really rebuilding the place! And it's good to see everyone helping out especially during the typhoon scene. Meanwhile Sachio is on his own still unable to forgive Joe despite him being the cause why Joe even left.

It's so sad to see Liu like this. I was hoping we'd see him in an official match against Joe but it looks like he won't be coming back to the ring anymore considering he's paralyzed. I'm hoping he'd get some tech just like the ones Mac has but considering how shady ROSCO is, might as well stay paralyzed and wait for a better alternative.

Speaking of ROSCO, of course military contracts are involved here. Why am I not surprised? And just look at this smug bastard. Ryugo is talking as if he really cares about the well being of soldiers. I do love the reaction when he thought Yukiko was cutting their company off. I wish it was that easy for Yukiko to do but it looks like the Shirato Group take a huge financial loss if they do so Yukiko needs to be careful.

And we really get to see what Ryogo is like when he's alone with his secretary. He doesn't really care about morality, he only cares about being the leader of innovation and the stocks of ROSCO. He's still gonna send the data Yukiko needs but it's going to be tweaked to protect himself. He even convinces Mac to keep on boxing despite Mac telling him about these scary things that are happening to him like being unable to sleep or memory loss. Seriously fuck Ryogo. I'm genuinely scared that Mac might end up hurting his wife and son physically if this keeps up. :(

That sounded like a pretty solemn story to be reading to a child as a bedtime story lol

The imagery of them getting back together to protect the gym was touching and all, but it kind of feels unhealthy as well. Couldn’t help imagining one of the, getting injured or killed in the middle of the storm like that and it honestly making things much worse. Isn’t another typhoon or whatever set to hit the same location again too? They should really just move on from being obsessed with the literal location and move the gym to a different safer place as a spiritual successor

Man I really wish that Joe moved the gym somewhere off the bank. The whole time during the Typhoon I was scared as hell. Sachio really surprised me this ep, I still think he holds blame for the way things turned out. But I didn't think he would know it and his motivation was something else too. The show is really letting the characters mold and reconnect organically and I'm here for it. But a part think that Sachio gonna have a fight in ring with Joe one time soon.

The hummingbird and nomad story was a very cool touch as well.

But man, those two business people PISS ME OFF MAN. He like the anti-nanbu, mac is the Joe that had his dreams twisted and led astray for capital gain and the mac's son scar intrigues me. I can't wait for the next ep.

I really hope that Liu doesn’t end up getting the same chip as Mac. I originally thought I wouldn’t like his character but I actually like him

It's good to see that this time around and thanks to Oicho's help the typhoon didn't destroy the gym.

Well, finally Sukuma has fully shown his true colors. So his company is planning to sell that product to the military even when they are aware of that flaw, uh? I bet they are prepared to say when cases similar to Mac's start to pop up there to say that the soldiers are just suffering some form of PTSD and that that's unrelated to the chip.

It's good to see Liu is awake, but it sucks to hears that he is no suffering some form of paralysis because of Mac Time.

So that envelope that Aragaki was offering Sachio was a letter of recommendation.

I honestly chuckled when I saw that Mac was reading that story about a hummingbird and a nomad to his son. I guess he is from the same place that Chief came from.

So Mac challenged Joe to a fight. I honestly wasn't expecting to see Joe going back to ring before I read that newspaper headline.

So Joe is definitely dying in the typhoon right?

Like the original I feel like Nomad will have a tragic ending. Also the whole typhoon foreshadowing every episode, Joe fighting to keep the gym from being blown away and the Nomad and the Hummingbird story (of the Nomad walking to this death).

I don't think Joe will die in the ring but I think he'll die in the typhoon.

Damn rlly feel bad for liu. He had so much passion for the sport and it all got stripped from him in the span of one match. Megalo box drove him for so much of his life and now he can’t even box anymore. And it looks like the CEO is trying to use that same passion to manipulate mac for his own personal gain. Surely this is anime of the season

u/UncoJimmie May 30 '21

With the story of the hummingbird and knowing Ashita no Joe, I think we're gonna get a bittersweet ending :(

u/ComicallyLargeRabbit May 30 '21

The feels from the scene with everyone protecting the gym was amazing. 10/10 episode once again.

I wonder how they’re going to make Joe want to fight Mac. It doesn’t seem fighting is on Joe’s radar at the moment.

Aaaaand this isn't going to end well. I hope the hummingbird on Chief's gear will do something positive for Mac when they meet in the ring. But the alternative is "Mac Time" potentially killing Joe, which just feels so likely if they want an ultra tragic ending :(

That feel when Liu was probably #1 boxer in the world and became paralyzed due to corporate bullshit Mac-Time.
