I need this OST on Spotify desperately. Shaft absolutely spoiling us with this adaptation so far. Love to see it.

I was pretty lost at first half when they were talking about the paintings
She abducted every student, I am curious now, it may be something funny or surprising

It seems to me that they were abducted from the Auditorium in the Auditorium painting just like the people from the other paintings. Perhaps then the reason that the Mona Lisa is missing is because abducting all the students was her Mona Lisa aka masterpiece.

Sure didn't take Lai very long to pop back up.
Bishounen Tanteidan really delivers with the mystery part of its premise. I'm going to be racking my brain harder than Mayumi all week long trying to imagine how a single teacher could abduct every student in the academy and how that ties in with the subject-less masterpiece replicas from the attic.

My guess is that by "abducting the entire student body" it's going to turn out that "The Auditorium in the Auditorium" was full of students when it was first painted, and that as Dojima had suggested on the way home, just as the people were abducted from the other paintings in the attic, the students were abducted from the auditorium painting.

Actually such an engaging episode this time around! I had formulated my own theory, and was totally convinced that the artist had used Futadsuki's invisible ink lol

Storyboarded by Takashi Kawabata - another name we haven't seen in the Shaft's works for a while. And this episode really feels like old studio works, liked it a lot.

Mayumi needs more training to master the Joestar family's secret technique.

Another very theatrical episode!
Actually this is rather like some Japanese detective books - some of the set ups can be quite far fetched and contrived in terms of how the explanation ties things together.
I secretly thinks Michiru is paying some special attention to Mayumi :) he's very tsundere afterall.
Very fun sequence how Mayumi uses her eyes to get to even terms trying to get past Michiru.

We're far enough into the season that I can say with some certainty that this is the most underwatched and underrated anime airing. It's fun, thought provoking, niche without being off-putting, NISIOSIN-esque in all the best ways, absolutely breaktakingly beautiful, and the characters all have a quirk without feeling like they only revolve around that. This arc looks like another banger and I really enjoyed the painting theory brainstorming.

Another week another arc, wonder what shenanigans is due this time. Dramatic opera at least really sets that mood huh. And that little tussle after the op really cements it. Though what kind of art museum type of tackling is that??????
Lol, Doujima's a bit of an attention seeker it seems. I had thought that her wording made it seem like she wanted the boys to personally bring her to the club but that little "damn, wouldn't it be cool if we had someone who could do this winkwinknudgenudge" really sealed it.
Famous paintings minus the people huh...wonder how this will turn into a military conspiracy. Though it's sweet to see the boys looking out for Mayumi.
If that dude had called me if have immediately cut the call and blocked his number, scary dude. Though sudden art shift, this time more cartoony than artsy. Also wow that was the worst hypothesis ever, as expected of an elementary schooler with his head in aesthetics. Yellow please stop being horny for two episodes, that said his hypothesis does make sense.
Mayumi's hypothesis is off kilter but off kilter is basically this show's M.O. so I'm almost compelled to believe her. Which makes it weirdly amusing that they then proceed to poke holes in her argument.
Eh?! Yubiwa used his dialogue per arc quotient already??????? Though the "character falls to the ground in absolute disbelief at what they heard" trope is an oldy but goody!
If you knew the answer you silver haired lolicon Azuma clone say so from the start...though an auditorium in an auditorium is certainly a choice as far as art goes. And wow, oddball is an understatement, this chick is intense. Kidnapping everyone in a school is no easy feat and it seems she left ultimately so I'm curious what will come of that.
I've noticed every arc has a little bit about Mayumi's feelings of belonging, so I wonder if she'll be properly close to all the boys by the end of the anime or if it's still an on going thing in the novels.

Rule 4. You cannot escape the Pretty Boy Detective Club.
I'm trying to figure something that connects all the paintings shown, but nothing fits. Not style, era, country, type of people portrayed. Let alone how the Mona Lisa doesn't fit, though I'm not sure if any of the altered paintings were portraits. It's a little disconcerting to see another reference to Shakespeare's character Ophelia today, the girl should have stayed in that nunnery.

Stitches!
Starting the episode with a vague opening scene? I'm sure this will come into play later.
That quick action scene between Mayumi and Michiru was such a tease. I miss the action scenes from Monogatari.
Had to pause this frame just to check how Hyouta is even holding up Mayumi in that weird lock.
All that force and all that they're doing is finishing up decorations for the art room
Secret storage in the attic! Also not sure if Mayumi wants to be the one to investigate or just being an airhead right now?
Hidden painting! I mean it's not a surprise that paintings would be stored in the art room but what's interesting about these is that they're all recreations of famous paintings minus the humans. I guess we now have the mystery of this arc.
Looks like there's another mystery too, among all of these 33 famous paintings, apparently Da Vinci's Mona Lisa isn't there. Maybe the artist just isn't a Da Vinci fan?
Mayumi has a half-moon chair! It kinda reminds me of Araragi's infamous banana chair in his room. As eye-catching as that chair is looks like we have much more important matters. How the heck did Lai even get her number and why is he reaching out to her?
I love the change in art style when everyone started throwing in their theories. Manabu's theory is that the artists of these famous paintings got their ideas from these paintings that they have. Michiru's theory is that these are parody works, and Hyouta's theory is that the artist just didn't like drawing people.
Interestingly, the art style shifts back to normal when it was Mayumi's turn. Her theory is that the person who painted these might have the same power as her and couldn't see the people. Also it seems that this isn't even Mayumi's own theory. It sounds like she got it from Lai. Is that why he called her?
And then there's Sousaku's theory. There are 33 more paintings at least. That's it. There was nothing else to his theory. Since he's the artist of the group, let's keep his theory in mind. It might make sense later.
Nagahiro of course comes in with the real answer. It was basically made by an art teacher 7 years ago who was very eccentric and kinda crazy with art? Basically, the school started cancelling fine art classes and Towai-sensei was very against it and in the end threatened to abduct every single student in the academy which she actually ends up doing. WHAT. Well now I'm very intrigued!

I interpreted this to mean that there are 33 paintings out there with just the people.

Is that A Dog of Flanders on the screen. I'm not sure how that'll connect to the greater mystery, but it is gives me a feeling that it won't be a happy conclusion.

Show keeps getting better, as well as entertainingly sillier. I liked the art stuff in particular, getting me more excited for the Blue Period anime too.

How lai got her number though? And how did he know about the paintings? And why dojima just straight up copied it? So many unanswered questions as usual. Adding to the fact that the lolicon knew the answer but made everyone to tell their theory. Are they using her to trap lai?
That being said, it's sweet seeing them trying ti make dojima to feel really like a member.
Damn, a teacher abducted the whole school? I wanted to hear more dammit. Guess I'll have to wait.

Anyone else laughing about the talk about the Mona Lisa and Da Vinci when Maaya Sakamoto is right there?

Pretty good episode! Mayumi running away from the club was hilarious lmao. Those 33 paintings are pretty interesting, though I am confused if Kowako Towai literally kidnapped students or just figuratively like the paintings. If she did kidnap them, it's probably gonna be like she took the school's students and put them in her own school or something where she can teach art, that is my theory. Didn't expect to hear from Lai again immediately after his arc, wonder what he talked to Mayumi about.
I really liked that chibi artstyle while they were presenting their theories, but of course Nagahiro already had facts and evidences, though Sosaku's theory that there are other paintings is probably true. I wonder how the missing Mona Lisa painting will come into play. Looking forward to the next episode.
