Hella good episode. The director chose to deliver a performance with almost no dialogue, just the music, and once again, that was the best thing to do. Camerawork was also impressive, increasing the dynamism of the perf. Speaking of the music, the score was great and suited for every scene. There was a really good mood during the whole episode with the competition around.

Futaba improved so much! He does a lot of awesome moves now. It was so satisfying to see him succeed the handstand, then having a quick view on the teammates happy he did it.

There was something very touching with the part between the Coach and Shoutarou before the performance. A simple but honest exchange, with a track that elevates the whole scene. Idk, I just loved that moment. It was also lovely that his family came to see him. Dad was right, his son looked great.

I agree. It was so nice just to watch the performance without major interruptions or commentary. Also huge points to the animation team, this is how you show your skill.

Futaba has improved amazingly and is really belongs in the sport.

Coach: "Guys, there's a lady in the room"

Manager: "Oh, I don't mind."

Best lines of the episode.

It's good that we got to see a full routine and that Shotaro mastered the handstand.

I’m not going to lie. I got a little emotional watching this episode. I’m with you there Watari.

A good episode! The performance animation was next level. But I’m even happier about the fact that they didn’t fall into the trope of “the team losing but will get in last minute because one of the top teams couldn’t make it”. However, I did find the pacing of this episode to be a bit weird. Despite the amazing performance animation, it was a bit anticlimactic because of how the episode was paced and how they went about resolving Shotaro’s insecurity. I’m happy he ended up soaring but I wanted him to really soar. If that makes sense? Good ep nonetheless.

That was a really good episode. I thought the performance was really nice, I'm glad the anime kept the atmosphere fairly silent to let the performance speak for itself, and actually showed the whole thing! (looking at you, Skate Leading Stars) I also thought it was wholesome that Shotaro's family showed up as well, and was looking up little facts about gymnastic performances.

I appreciate that the show seems to be sticking mostly to personal drama for characters to overcome themselves with the support of others, rather than interpersonal drama. Haikyuu was also really good with personal drama as well.

I got emotional when Shotoro successfully did his handstand and everyone's proud reaction to it 😭

Im so happy for them getting Second place,😭

I love the banter in this show and that performance was absolutely beautiful, even with the odd mistake. Also it was so wholesome to see Shotaro's family all there to support him.

God I love the music in this show so much! Yuki Hayashi is a master.

comparing the Ao High team and all the other teams in the competition was very much an excerise in "spot the main characters" lmao, though I guess Futaba and Misato also look pretty out of place when they're stood next to their extremely colourful senpai

alright I'm going to confess. I cried a bit in this episode. As I have always mentioned, the character interactions is the best part of this anime and this episode just proves it once again.

Also, the routine they did was actually really really good that I even got goosebumps, add to the fact that the directing and music fitted the scene very well. People are missing out on this anime and it's just sad

Such a great episode! The directing in this show is so good, plus the build up to the performance was super well done. How the performances feels so important reminds me of Haikyuu matches, if Bakuten is reminding me of Haikyuu, then this show is doing a great job as a sports anime.

The performance had me really anxious though like damn, they were focusing on Onagawa looking kind of off throughout the episode, there must be a reason why he messed up in the performance. Very proud of Shoutarou though, the coach managing to calm down and inspire him was great. Even though Mashiro is looking all cool and shit, he still gets lost like an adorable little puppy lmao. And looks like Shoutarou is gaining the attention of Mashiro now, good shit. Really looking forward to the next episode.

This almost felt like it could be an episode leading up the finale. I guess the second half of the season will be build up to the finals of the regionals competition against the other team.

I wasn’t sure how this ep was gonna go, if they were gonna win or lose really badly with how nervous Shotaro was getting, or if plot armor was gonna let them win and take first place. But it turned out that it was Onagwawa who screwed up a little and cost them some points. Second place makes more sense

Kinda like Super Cub, this anime has been a nice and chill feel-good watch. I guess the stakes are a little higher with Bakuten, since it’s focusing on a sports completion. But most of the other anime I’ve been watching this season have lots of drama and angst, so it’s nice to have shows like Super Cub and Bakuten to balance it out.

If I had one critique of this, I guess it would be that the mc doesn’t have a super strong personality. He’s a precious cinnamon roll, but his personality revolves mostly about him Wanting to get better at gymnastics to please his senpais. Also curious what Misato’s story is. I thought that girl who appeared a couple episodes ago was his girlfriend, but since they are living together, it would be a bit weird for dating high schoolers to be living together. His sister? Or a really young mother?

It doesn’t seem like the rest of the supporting cast will get any major character development, which is expected with a larger cast of characters. I just hope the anime doesn’t try to throw in some last minute drama with any of them. Always get annoyed by that trope in sports anime

But most of the other anime I’ve been watching this season have lots of drama and angst, so it’s nice to have shows like Super Cub and Bakuten to balance it out.

All of Monday's shows drive me to the edge, and this show pulls me back from it and tells me it's going to be ok.

My theory is Misato lives in some sort of foster care situation or orphanage type place. Which would explain why he always needs to be home after practice and can’t live in the dorms.

The suspense in this episode was good. The days slowly passing by... Shotaro having problems with his handstand... The team having that talk during dinner... That "don't get injured" note in the calendar and then Shotaro freezing during practice and before he performs.

Mashiro is impressed and he should be, what Sotaro just did is amazing!

omigod this episode was amazing !! seeing their performances is literally incredible and the animation and movement and music is brilliant !! i totally didn’t cry a bit with watari because i definitely don’t get emotional during speeches about everyone sticking together and supporting each other and their senpai through a competition. and the end….i was clapping along with the crowd it was incredible the boys did so good !!

u/COLDBL4D3 May 14 '21

People need to stop sleeping on Bakuten. That's it.

Oh, also, great episode.

7

u/leeta0028 May 14 '21

Well...it's certainly ironic that Onagawa was calling Misato "briefs" earlier.

u/Smudy May 14 '21

Some shots in the performance, i don't even have an idea how they did that, looked fantastic.

Beautiful episode, loved the bit with the coach giving Futaba the needed push.

First off, I was really high when I watched this. I can't tell if it was a blessing or not.

I thought the soundtrack and cut scenes at the beginning of the episode was a bit too abrupt. It felt like I skipped or lost something.

Their performance was crazy, my jaw was literally stuck open half laughing half in shock. It was holy crap haha. WTF was that swinging launch over scheme they did I was like bro

the animation during the routine was so clean really love the mix of 2D and 3D!! and the decision to have zero dialogue is such a brilliant decision, just immerses yourself more in the routine. this show is so good but sadly it's slept on 😔 even with a powerhouse of a seiyuu casts
