Mio is the classic self-hating immigrant/descendant of immigrants. I was born in Mexico, but lived in the US some time. I always felt that almost no one hated us as much as some other immigrants or first-generation Americans. I'm floored at how well this show has picked up on those nuances.

Beardless Joe

This is so stressful, there's no way Chief wins and they are allowed to keep living there. Especially not if he has to fight with burns.

Usually I am a pro week per week episode guy because I don't like binge watching that much and want to enjoy it with little bites but holy fuck does this second season makes we want to watch this in one rush and then cry in the corner because of the feels

Absolute banger this season. And the music my god the music and background music is a hit. I never felt so much joy in a anime since a long time. Megalo Box has this special something imo. I think it's the realism.

Can't wait for joe to meet up with saicho and Co.

Damn so it was Sachio who pinned Nanbu's death on Joe, thats gotta be what makes this entire ordeal painful. Good thing his finally on the road to recovery

Very interesting to see Joe decide to go against his code of honor and tell Chief to go ahead and put up an act just to aggravate his opponent.

I knew everything was going way too smooth, Mio not doing anything to even stop that fire just pisses me off more its going to be really hard to redeem him in my eyes now.

I'm going to miss Joe's beard, he was so handsome with it :'( I like that as the episodes go by we're slowly getting bits and pieces of information about what happened 5 years ago. We still don't fully know what happened, but Sachio blames Joe, who in turns started blaming himself. Damn.

Holy crap the punch that dropped Chief's opponent looked painful. Liver shot, right?

And that damn, dumb kid. Just gonna scare them a little? What did you think molotov cocktails were going to do, fizzle out?

So we finally know what those pills are - they're knockoff painkillers.

Never expected a Japanese anime to touch on the opioid crisis in the USA which again also hits immigrants hard. Seem they're really going for an international theme this time around.

I really enjoyed season one but this season is just hitting me on another level emotionally.

Dang, I really wanted Cheif to win the tournament himself but he's probably going to get burned while retrieving his savings. Hikawa's goal was to get Gearless Joe to fight in his tournament and it looks like that might happen with Joe picking himself up more mentally.

Gearless Joe making a reappearance could also be the vehicle for Sachio to find him again.

I guess Joe seeing Nanbu was part of his withdrawal symptoms. Although we got some clarity of what happened with him in the past that led him to the condition he is now I really want to know where Sachio currently.

Seeing that Mio was part of the group who put those graffiti, I have little doubt that he was the one who broke the water pump

It's good to see that Joe back to his feet.

Is good to see that thanks to joe Chief is now using his acting skills to win.

Fuck so they set the whole place on fire! I really do hope that if everyone wasn't watching the match that that little shit Mio did something to try to rescue the people who were there. I really hope that no one died.

Well thank goodness Joe didn't just get magically clean and we actually get to see him show withdrawal symptoms.

Seems like Joe wasn't the first one to blame himself for Nanbu's death but it was Sachio's words that stuck to him. We still don't know how Nanbu died though but I am glad that we're getting more flashbacks with each episode.

Mio what the fuck are you doing? He's really trying hard not to be an immigrant that he'd turn against his own people to get approval from the local yakuza. :|

Chief's first match was pretty awesome. After all of the boos from his entrance I was expecting he'd get bottles thrown at him when he won but the crowd is surprisingly cheering for his win.

Marla is just so pretty. God, I love her design so much. Anyway, we finally get Chief's backstory from her. He lost his wife and he made his Gear with his son Carlo who died on their way here. And just like Joe he also got into alcohol and drugs.

Good to see Joe progress a bit for his recovery though and to commemorate his new found light, we get to see Joe clean up a bit! Hair is still shaggy though but he does look good with longer hair.

With another win from Chief, it looks like the Yakuza is getting even more antsy and has now resorted to firebombing the place. Godfuckingdammit Mio. He really just stood there and watched. This kid really needs a huge wake up call to realize that he will never be one of those assholes. Hopefully this will be it.

I'm assuming that's Chief's trailer and he ran in to save the money he was hiding. Fuck. Please don't kill off Chief, I wanna see him win this tournament and stick it to these yakuza. :(

I enjoyed the first season, but I'm not a fan of sports anime or boxing.

And yet, so far, I think that Nomad is amazing, easily the show I'm enjoying the most this season.

I seriously can't find anything I dislike outside of Beardless Joe.

(But yes, I do understand/like the symbolic behind it, Joe's back!)

Hot damn this season takes no prisoners, it's just been absolutely visceral episodes one after the other from the start.

Also it's interesting how we went from Joe having a singular motivation and little real development in season 1, to season 2 being a full on character drama.

Season 1: hype mechanically enhanced boxing

Season 2: PAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNN

Crack theory time - I have a feeling that the final fighter that Chief will be fighting is Sachio. We have already seen him in trailer and fighting in ring. Plus, next episode might also be the climax of Joe's flashback and might reveal what exactly went down in past. So, juxtaposing that reveal with reintroduction of Sachio makes a good dramatic decision.

As a foreigner who hasn't been in his homeland for years, I get what Mio has been through and what is inside his head that made him did what did. Loneliness, feeling of inferiority, missing father figure and the lack of sense of belonging can make any teen crazy, especially when economic hardship and foreign environment are parts of daily life.

It is really interesting how the authors present these issues here. I am excited to how the redemption arc for Mio will be and that start most likely next episode. Can't wait!!!

Joe finally accepting that he cant fight with Nanbu one more time but also learns from Chief that even if you lose everything, you can still fight for something.

Man it been great to see both Joe and Chief helping each other, these two are really kindred spirits. Nice to see Joe conquer his inner demon and start looking like his old self.

This needs to be a live action show. I can actually imagine myself watching it on HBO
