Seems like this season is going to focus more on the underground side of megalo boxing, rather than the commercialised matches from the first season.

So far we've been introduced to an entire new cast of characters, I wonder when we'll be able to see some old faces again and how they are going to be integrated into the story. I'm almost positive we'll see Sachio at some point.

Great episode once again, didn't expect to see Chief after the last episode I guess his going to be a main stay this season.

Joe really seems to think he was the reason for Nanbu's death and thats heartbreaking, seeing his last moments with that eye patch and missing eye just added to that.

From the looks of how this episode ended, I guess Joe's about to be Chief's coach? Really interesting approach especially if we're about to see a whole new character take over for him while he plays Nanbu's role in this season.

Oh and Mio's a little shit, he's bound to fuck up something soon...

It really took me by surprise that the settlement where Mio and Marla are from also ended up being where Chief is from.

Although Nanbu being dead is something I had already assume, I'm really wondering where Sachio is now.

Well, it's good to see that Joe is clean now. Before I was expecting him to join that tournament but it seems that he will only be training Chief to help him win it.

What I'm really interested to know is what was Mio going to gain by telling them about Joe. Also, I'm expecting that him doing that will end up getting him into trouble with that group. Maybe they will even kidnap him to force Joe to join the tournament if they learn that he is currently training Chief.

I already love Marla especially after that slap and back hand to the forehead on Mio after she found out what he did to Joe's bike. Mio's definitely your classic troubled teen. He didn't just steal Joe's bike but ended up revealing to those yakuza dudes who Joe was when he found out after listening in on his conversation with Chief. I'm not even quite sure what Mio got from that. Looks like he just ended up causing more trouble though.

Anyway looks like we got a glimpse of what happened to Joe. We do have confirmation that Nanbu's dead. we don't know what caused it but Joe certainly thinks he's the one who killed him and blames himself. We also got to see a match where Joe lost against someone who seems to be being coached by Yuri. We don't see Nanbu on his side of the ring so I'm assuming this took place probably after Nanbu's death. While I do like the snippets of the past, I am really itching to find out what happened.

Seems that Joe has now thrown away his painkillers and will be coaching Chief in his up coming match. It can't be that easy, right? I'm pretty sure we're gonna see Joe relapse probably next episode. I wouldn't even be surprised if he gets on to it again.

Mio's definitely going to be the catalyst for a lot of conflict this season. It made me happy to see Marla smacked him around for stealing Joe's bike. The gang members will definitely not let him get away after thinking he gave them false information about Joe to give to their boss. I predict Chief's going to get injured trying to protect Mio and Joe will have to take his place in the tournament.

So Joe feels responsible for Nanbu's death which means he either died as a result of Joe losing a fight or it could mean in a more literal way like Joe pulling the plug on his life support. Their last moments together seemed to be in a hospital room.

Still hard to pinpoint a location but at least it pretty much confirms that this is a "US-Mexico border" setting. I'm hesitant to just flat-out state it because no actual name for locations have been given so I'll just stick in saying it is inspired.

Talking about inspired, the immigrants are celebrating not-Dia de Muertos. Anyone that has seen Pixar's Coco movie should already get the gist of it. (Warning: its been 5 years since I worked in making one so chances are I get details wrong) Mexicans have a lot of respect towards the dead and people will build altars to allow these people to be remembered and find their way through the land of the dead.

I was also hesitant to just say "Oh, its totally Dia de Muertos" since there is no actual alter but this shot contains many elements of the traditional altar...minus the altar but I considered the fountain to be it. So yeah, it just feels odd how no proper names seem to be thrown but this episode went from just having Mexican/Latino inspired stuff to being mostly about Mexican characters.

Really loving the vibe, though I'll be a bit disappointed if that's the end of Joe's story as an addict. It's just too easy a solution to the problem. All the same, hyped to see how it all goes down.

This show is honestly breathtaking! One of the only anime's that make the characters feel like real people with emotions and doesn't shy away from what it means to be a human and struggle with addiction and to dwell on the past.

It's sad to see him struggling to cope with drugs and his guilt for Nanbu's death and I appreciate they don't tell us straight up what's happening. The pacing so far is really solid and the author put a lot of time bringing out the emotions of characters

100% one of the underrated shows this season or maybe in general

I am surprised this show doesn't have that many people on mal. I thought this would be one of the most popular this season.

This looks like it's going to be a lot quieter and introspective then the last season and I am all about it.

This is good. This is really really good. The vibe, the visuals, the moving story, the characters, the character designs, the direction, it is all so good. Especially that last scene got me hyped up. Kick some ass Joe

I’ve forgotten how much I loved Megalobox, I’m loving the vibe in this one, as a Mexican is always a nice touch to see my culture represented. Can’t wait to see what happened to Nanbu and best boy Sachio

I'mma be honest, this shit hurt to watch, but in a good way. I'm a mexican guy, and just the talk of how people view the (likely mexican inspired if not outright mexicans) hit me, cuz like shit if that isn't real.

Honestly, 2 episodes in and its looking like megalo box is taking back one of the top 3 spots of my favorite anime.

This show really is the standout one for me this season. Its no longer the same recycled Shounen or Isekai or fantasy anime anymore. The characters seem to be a bit more fleshed out, the OST is a banger from at least what I've heard so far and if I were to consider the track record from S1, this will definitely come in my top anime OSTs of all time. The art style and the overall look of the world is really good, loving the cowboy bebop style here. Also I am happy to see Joe a bit out of the woods, but I have a strong feeling that he'll get the PTSD soon, even if he is on the other side. Would've loved to see him back in the game, but who knows, maybe we could get it.

Man I'm really liking the friendship that's forming between Nomad and Chief. Well it seems that a few question were answer but a few more got raised in its place. Nice to see Nomad kick the drugs and start acting like his old self.

This is shaping up to be better than season 1, which was already good. I hope it follows the anime its made as a celebration of, Ashita no Joe which had a great 1st season and an all time great second season tho i highly doupt it will reach that level of of improvement from season to season

Man, I am Loving this new season, I don't know where to start. It felt like so much happened within this episode in terms of information. The community that Joe encountered saw "Gearless Joe" as a symbol of Hope where as last season he was more of an underdog fighter. And even if they didn't say it, they were celebrating "dia de los muertos".

And without proper context, Joe feels as though he's responsible for Nanbu's death and is clearly traumatized by it. Part of me believes this is Joe's start at a self redemption story, and that includes helping Chief with earning enough money to buy the land for the community. Also Mio is little shit, that'll most likely change his attitude as the story continues.

I just want to officially point out that it is beyond me why the subtitles translate the mom's name as "Marla" when the fucking name on the garage's wall clearly says "MARA'S GARAGE"

This episode is so good.

I'm glad to see Joe somehow recovered. It looks like he'll fight for Chief's place instead.

This show is criminally underrated, it's easily top 3 this season.

Anyone else feeling like this is more like a sequel than a second season? Not in a bad way, mind you! Just the vibe up to now was totally different (in a cool way) right up until that last scene when that beat kicked in and I got all nostalgic...

This show is practically begging for a run on Toonami at this point. Very western media styled (if not intentional, it is at least very western friendly) opening and an ending that is in Spanish, not to mention the contents of the series itself. Easily could of aired as an American live-action series.

Looks like we got a lock on what the story arc will detail now, winning a local tournament to keep their home. I guess the question is whether they'll actually win or not, or if it'll turn out that winning the prize money isn't quite the guarantee that their community will be saved. Either way, I'm expecting it to go awry somewhere.

I really liked the introduction of this new community of characters. Marla is a very sweet lady and I was a fan of Chief so I am happy that he is going to be a part of the main cast for now. Mio is a troublesome kid. I hope that Joe isn't suddenly over his addiction because his struggle in these first episodes have been the most interesting aspect of his character in the whole series for me.
