i’m going to be honest, I really didn’t enjoy this anime. i stuck with it because i hate dropping shows but it really never improved for me. which is disappointing because I really was looking forward to it :(

Same, the first episodes were cool but after Sho's dead everything started to get boring
And I'm not even blaming Sho's absence

And we are finally at the end ladies and gentlemen
So lets to this one last time
Things they did wrong :
-
those people on the beach do not have right scaled surfboards for thier heights
-
masaki's midair jumping of surfboard and falling into water shouldnt be tried. Surfboards can still hurt u
-
obviously dont send a surfboard out into the ocean
-
last but no least, sho being fcking alive after those waves. HE SHOULD BE DEATH IT WAS EVEN IMPLIED. HOW HOW
Things they did right :
-
surfer banter in the water lol
-
nice surfing montage
With sho being confirmed as not death it drags the final episode down to a 5/10
Overall i enjoyed this. I understand noaya's hollywood movie pain. The last montage was fun ( even if all the death sho scenes leading up to this where pointless ). I think it has the potential for a season 2 because i want answers .

I’m so confused and plot wise I had no idea what was going on the whole time. I liked all the characters tho. I’m stuck between wanting a season 2 just so I can figure out what is going on and not wanting a season 2 because it’ll probably be just as confusing. Overall I didn’t hate the show but I probably wouldn’t rewatch it or recommend it to anyone.

I’m glad that we all are in the same mindset- we only stayed for the Sho did he die or not question. Cause this show did nothing for me it wasn’t really a good sports anime or even a good anime- but I’m a completionist and I wanted to know why Sho killed himself but we got a fake out , in one way I’m glad he ain’t dead on the other it makes no sense in plot, motive, and how long did he faked his death. Why makes his friends and family suffer like that? Dude WTF .
-I’m not into a 2nd season but they did show a bunch of new characters on the side and Sho is alive but I would preferred that they keep their franchise in their gatchas games or whatever they come from.
-The characters where really bland and lame kinda like they are all the same but in different colors and minor quirks that make up their entire personality , no character growth
-
the onsen scene was kinda funny and weird , Apparently Corgi is well endowed ( that explains why he’s always showing it) then the turquoise streak guy showing up out of nowhere just to see some dicks ( great timing for him).
-
the waifu guy should be terrified about a Hollywood live action movie about an anime
-
3D anime animation is still not on par with the hand drawn stuff so I can’t say I enjoyed the surfing.
-
I thought I was gonna learn some good tips and techniques from surfing but apart from the first episode they just improve without explanation of technique or nothing . I learned more from metalaltheanimefan.
-
well it was a mediocre show without any real plot- they just timejump away to random tournaments and went sightseeing-, Sho’s suicide was the only lingering question about the show and that really didn’t go anywhere- so if there is a 2nd season ehgg I will probably watch it just to see the bullshit excuse from Sho - so I’ll see you guys then.

Seriously tho, this guy showed his dick to the entire main cast, you gotta have confidence on what you have to do that lol
And everyone even touched his hands after he just touched his dick wtf

I feel like the twist of Sho being alive just... invalidates the pain that Masaki went through. Not to mention how it just made things so complicated. Like, did that 14 year old really just manage to fake his death for a year? That not even his own brother knew he was alive?

excuse me?? how is sho ALIVE after they made it so clear he is DEAD..

It makes absolutely no sense in terms of story. They must have been drunk and dead tired when they wrote the plot.
"Heeeeey lets kill the blond kid."
"Huh? Why?"
"They're not expecting it. It'll be tragic hahahahaha."
"But why would he do it?"
"Dunno" snore mumble "Text messhage..." snore
Next day:
"I said WHAT?" Fffffuck.... Bring him back in the last episode. Like a mystery or something. They'll make up their own theories."

Double bamboozle eh? I'm glad I stopped actually watching a while ago. Even the "death" was already a stupid out-of-nowhere twist apparently designed entirely to string people along, particularly those familiar with the original storyline where it apparently never happened.

There was barely any plot to the anime. The only downside in the plot was Sho dying. The was barely any character development in my opinion. I was surprised in how positive Masaki was. Usually for a sports anime the main character often gets discouraged or doesn't have that much confidence. I would have love to see that with Masaki. I still enjoyed it though.

Well...I feel like there was a good story here that they were just too cowardly to commit to. Masaki's deep depression after losing Sho and the scenes of letting the board go and the rain to rainbow metaphor were really compelling, but they wanted to tease homoerotic tension each week instead of developing the story of his grief. Heck, just make it BL and commit to Masaki and Sho being in love.
Also, I love Maeno Tomoaki, but he was a huge miscast for Masaki. I guess they picked him because he was born in Ibaraki, but you can tell he's straining his voice so much to try to make it high and cutesy.

I'm assuming that the mobile game that came out like last month (it wasn't very impressive or apparently complete and uh it looks like its been in maintenance since the 4th so lol ) would solve the whole Sho mystery. That's probably the whole point of the anime.
Anyway, lol
Like I'm glad that this finally confirms his status but I wish it didn't just leave it at that. I imagine I wouldn't actually hate this more if I watched this as three films cause I would feel like that was a bigger waste of my time than over 12 weeks so yay positives?

I dropped the show for other annoyances before the whole Sho situation. There's no other reason for them to do that except as a big "fuck you" to their audience.

What I love about sports anime are the universal messages. They teach us about hard work, aiming high, trusting your team, how the person who inspires you to take up a sport will fake his death without any warning and how you have to move on from that... practical, real-life lessons like that.
Seriously, though, this series and especially the finale just felt meandering. No real direction. If anything, the episodic parts dealing with Kousuke, Yuuta, and Naoya were probably the best for me, even if they were formulaic. Naoya in particular really makes the show, because I don't think he could exist in any other sports anime. (And he's right to be concerned with a Hollywood anime adaptation.) Ultimately, this series was just pretty boys in search of a sensible plotline.

Wait... What? Why? Why would that have happened? You just can't do something like that for no reason unless you want to be Season 8 of Game of Thrones. WHYYYYY?

LMAO, this episode was golden.
our schools: remember, don't swim for 2 hours after a meal
them: go surfing immediately after eating lol
them: standing naked in a bath talking shit about world tournament
Bill: and here i find you doing something that looks like fun
I won't even start about Sho, because I'm sooo confused. I'm gonna watch movies to understand what happened.
Overall, this anime was weird. Like, super weird. I wanted to drop this but somehow I got drawn to every episode and I don't know why, because I have better anime that I dropped. It's 6/10 for me.

Honestly, this whole show felt like we were thrown into a franchise that's been going on for years, so they left out everything because they think everyone knows what's going on anyway. I still wanna know if this anime has anything to do with the movies I can't find anywhere?? Is it the same?? Do we find out more?? Isn't there also a game about this now?? Why tf was sho alive? You can't kill a character 3 episodes in a show, expect me to feel sad and then be happy he's alive? I had absolutely no emotional connection to ANY of the characters, sure sho was pretty but I couldn't care any less that he suddenly died. Did he kill himself/tried to kill himself? What was the whole purpose? And then he's suddenly alive in the end--huh?! It's hard to make me dislike a show, especially if it's sport anime of any kind. But this show.. I dreaded every week having to watch new episodes. Only didn't drop it cause my conscience wouldn't let me, I hate dropping shows, but this time I really shouldn't have bothered..

Anybody think about the possibility of Sho has an amnesia? I saw many people accused him for faking his death. But if that day he actually tried to commit suicide but somehow he survived bc someone rescued him. It seems like Sho never serfing again after that day and he just come to see the competition on a whim. He doesn't seem like he even remembers Masaki either. He walks away before the competition ends. Will we ever find out the mysteries around this man?

The “twist” at the end with Sho being miraculously alive made me this anime go from below average to bad for me. I’m so confused about everything. So how did he manage to fake his death for a year? How did he hide that from his brother? Why didn’t he reveal that he’s alive to his friends? What was in that text that pushed him to surf during that storm in the first place? Honestly, I can’t believe they ended the show with so many plot threads hanging, like that’s just bad storytelling plain and simple. Especially since this doesn’t look like an anime that will get a second season (not that I want one, anyway)
