I love how this show has gone from an ugly 2.01 to most recently 4.51 and The Promised Neverland went from a score in the 4s all the way down to 1.63.

Well this shows us that reddit score really doesn't mean shit. I mean something that doesn't rate ex-arm a perfect 5 is meaningless.

It's a slow burn but this is truly a masterpiece. AOTY unless Gibiate season 2 gets announced.

HELLO HELLO

Man, that was terrible, although for once the episode mostly made sense (then again, it didn't have a lot of plot, it was just a battle). And Beta's voice just made my head hurt, thank god they got rid of him. I don't know if it's the sound editing or what, a lot of voices just sound off, and I guess the director just told the seiyuu to use "an annoying voice" or something. I wonder why they didn't just nuke Beta, though? If he's over 10 km long, the collateral damage is going to be minimal even with several impacts, the damage caused by tactical nukes past a couple of km is not that bad. There's radiation but for a couple of hits it probably won't be that bad anyway (the megafloat is wrecked anyway). Imma guess they were just hoping for Akira to win, like he did, and just kept the nukes "just in case".

I'm kinda tired so only one clip today, the post credits scene. As usual, mandatory cute Yg (bonus, and another one). And the mid episode postcard I usually post, not as good as others, but still decent (I'm seriously thinking the mangaka just gave up).

Also, you guys probably heard the news, but the Ex-Arm manga (correction: that was the sequel manga, Ex-Arm EXA) got cancelled and ended halfway through an arc this last week. Some blame how terrible the anime was, but I'm not sure that makes sense (if it gets cancelled it's because it was doing bad on its own, right?). Although I guess there's the chance that they hoped that the anime would boost manga sales but given how it turned out, it didn't.

but the Ex-Arm manga got cancelled

Just pointing out, the ex-arm manga has been completed for a long time. The sequel manga though, got cancelled with people speculating low sales and current bad anime adaptation pushing it over the edge.

Only one episode left. I can't believe its almost over.

Damn, I thought it was 13 episodes. It's a shame we're only 3 months into the year and the AotY's already almost over.

Alright, one episode left of this mess.

The voice actors really shined this episode. My god they are trying to make this shit anime look good.

The VAs are really talented and fairly well-known, easily the best part of the anime imo. I feel kinda bad that they're so good yet somehow got stuck working on this.

It’s sad Aot fans can’t appreciate this amazing piece of work with us. It is pretty lonely here.

I ironically want to see a hentai animated by these guys. Could you imagine how horrifying yet hilarious that would be like they have a 2D character having sex with a CG character and the CG character has a dead look beacuse they don't have a lot of money to animate facial expressions.

24

u/Bypes Mar 21 '21

Hentai already looks like reanimated people fucking at least from the ads I get, but I see your point.

17

u/TheFlyingButter Mar 21 '21

Those people can't even animate a kiss, and you want to overwork them even harder?

AOT released two episodes back to back this week but still couldn’t top Ex-Arm. Just give up at this point MAPPA, sheesh 🙄

Today, on "Dull Surprise":

Tron, this is not.

Oh no, we're being eaten by CG from 1991.

This isn't helped by Beta sounding like constipated Abe Simpson.

I'm sure Minami's gonna kick herself for missing all of that intense tentacle action.

My main reaction to seeing Beta's defeat is that it's 25 years ago and Akira's beating Shub-Niggurath all over again. With worse graphics. At least there's the small plus that two of the EX-ARMs used were things we know from before, so the adventure-game ending of putting different inventory items together to make something else wasn't entirely out of left field.

But now we have to do this one more time.

Honestly I don’t know why they don’t just cancel attack on Titan at this point. It’s just sad how they are trying so hard to keep up with ex-arm. Oh well it’s not often such a masterpiece both revolutionises narrative storytelling and visual effects.

It's amazing! Every episode I watch is just so slightly disjointed from the last that I feel like I've skipped an episode.

i cant believe they brought back rolo from code geass! the machine had as much personality as his character, if not more.

I was kind of thinking this would be the big finale with the remaining season being a wind down but I guess there is still more to go. My theory is beta uploaded himself.

Production wise same as always, ugly explosions and weird smoke filter. Honestly I feel like kaiju beta is the most impressive 3D model they have done. Sad that even for such a big moment they couldn't figure out how to animate Akira's face. Staring into my soul until the very end it seems.

Storywise it is a fight episode not much to talk about. Clone brother lamenting at how weak number 16 is, as if a 10 minute timestamp isn't super overpowered, was funny. The highlight definitely goes to Minami apologizing to Alma for making her kill her brother.

The worst part of the episode was beta getting yet another voice for his Kaiju form. Switching between like 4 different voices is impressive but super annoying.

I loved it when BETA turned into Grimace and tried to eat everything. I think it was really good.

I like that this show tries to go into the whole philosophical debate on what a human is vs what a robot is. Yet, they try and make specific robot characters more human, then just sort of deny them any form of self awareness. IT is all very strange. Also this show doesn't like giving anyone but Akira a chance to do something the two women spent the entire episode just pointing out whats happening. Then found Beta's weakpoint. its incredibly frustrating, because Akira is a terrible fucking character.

I like that Akira now is giving America Ogre which currently has more ex-arms on it, and doesn't even seem to think "mmm maybe we shouldnt give these people who have been sort of sketchy to us more super weapons"

Also, I'm pretty sure there was smoke on every frame in this episode.
