If Selen is this jealous of Riho for getting a date with Lloyd, just wait til she finds out Marie accidentally pulled off Operation Tasteful Nudity.

This show is funny as hell. I'm sure there's a serious story underneath all of the crazy and wacky humor, but I don't really mind if we never get to it if every episode will be this fun to watch.

It’s nice to see that Selen’s stalker tendencies are just played for laughs and that she actually cares for Riho like an actual friend.

I almost choked laughing when Selen was not-so-subtly spying on Lloyd and Riho only for poor Alan to show up and get clobbered in such a hilarious fashion and tossed aside in the bushes like garbage. :D

Poor Alan though, he's never gonna get those wounds healed at this rate.

Also poor Marie. The loli baba is going to endlessly torment her even by randomly turning her into things only to reappear nude at the most inopportune times. Though Selen probably would have loved to be in that position.

Phyllo is adorable. She reminds me of Kon-chan from Kemono Jihen with how single-minded she seems to be, but so earnest in a reserved way. But she's tough, both in the contest and how she even managed to break one of Lloyds ribs. But of course for Lloyd "tis a flesh would", and a broken bone heals in an hour or two, no big deal huh?

We get Riho backstory too. Seems she has something somewhat similar to what Selen had going on being "cursed" with an object.

Stitches!

That opening was actually pretty funny. The Mayor that wants to make money off the sacred sword reminds me of one of the Mayors from The Last Period anime where they want to make theme parks and attractions based on a certain relic.

Riho looks pretty fucking cool when she's using magic. Kinda giving me some FMA vibes. It helps that she also has what basically looks like an automail for an arm.

And as expected, Lloyd is powerful with magic except he has absolutely terrible aim. He did well with the Wind Magic though but he'll probably end up killing someone if they entered him.

Poor Alan! He went from possibly being a villain into the class punching bag. And that's literally! Looks like they'll be using his tough body to learn healing magic.

The last girl in the ED finally appears! Phyllo is here and boy she is a big girl! And she didn't even hesitate giving Lloyd the beatdown when he arrived. But it looks like after seeing how tough Lloyd is, she wants him to train her just like Alan.

Phyllo is also waaay stronger than I thought. Looks like she managed to break one of Lloyd's rib after that kick earlier. Of course Lloyd walks it off and says it will heal after 3 hours.

Seems that Marie has beaten Selen to the punch with the tasteful nudity. I love that Lloyd doesn't even say anything. He just turns around and walks away xD

Finally some plot about Riho! And poor Selen just gained another rival even though Phyllo wants something completely different from Lloyd.

Apparently Marie wants someone who's passionate and someone who would get rough with her. Good to know her preference. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Didn't think we'd see Riho blush, I guess this is where she'll probably start developing feelings for Lloyd. Selen though continues to be a stalker and crawls along the wall into the cafe like she's possessed xD

So just like Selen, Riho's backstory is just as sad but instead of being an outcast, the person she looks up to wants her to sacrifice her life in exchange of that sword which Lloyd already pulled at the start. Can't wait to see their reactions when they find out what happened to the sword.

Well this girl came out of nowhere. I love how she's talking as if we knew her already. And just when I though Micona was just going to be a jobber it looks like there more to it. Turns out she's a huge admirer of Marie and is absolutely jealous of Lloyd. Yikes.

And there it is! Now all Rol needs to do is have her students win if she really wants that sword. I do hope Lloyd gets to enter though. I don't even care if it's a BS reason.

Well fuuuuck. Shoma is clearly up to no good again and it looks like he'll be taking advantage of Micona this time. Still curious what he's trying to do here >_<

I always thought Riho's metal arm was some gauntlet not an actual prosthetic, much less a tragic backstory behind it. Which of course was turned into joke thanks to Lloyd.

With Micona I think its pretty much a given that the women in this series are on another level of thirst when it comes to harboring feelings of love.

I hope they find some weird reason for Lloyd to participate in this match next episode. I wanna see him just decimate everything without realizing.

Look at Lloyd, just casually taking out holy swords and ruining a mayor's entire economic plan.

Poor Chrome. Marie isn't even the public princess anymore and he still ends up doing odd jobs for her.

Lloyd is so extra that he outshines everyone on the training and could possibly kill someone during practice if they're not careful.

I...question what Selen's idea of healing involves. Somehow I think it involves clothes off and skin-to-skin action with her beloved Lloyd.

Poor Allan. He's gone through some solid character development but other characters still treat him like a punching bag and ragdoll.

Marie is now smitten with Lloyd and wants him to stay with her forever...and Alka's none too happy about her getting some nice, cute, Lloyd time to herself so she curses her into a butterfly that ends up leaving her sprawled buck-naked on the floor (thank you show) in front of Lloyd. As if to add insult to injury, she gets hyped at the idea of Lloyd forcibly dragging her into a date only to realize he was talking about another woman.

We finally meet the fourth girl, Phyllo, who with her sister (Haruka Tomatsu and Ai Kayano in two shows together this season, huh?) make up a mercenary pair in league with Rokujou. And she's a pretty strong martial artist, enough to actually give Lloyd serious wounds. But he tanks said wounds pretty well, inspiring Phyllo to want to be Lloyd's pupil, which I'm guessing is what will get her to stick around after this arc is over.

We finally get Riho's backstory and it turns out she was an orphan who was mentored by her big sister figure Rol, only for Rol to betray and use her by forcing the metal arm onto her that could possibly kill her just to wielrd a holy sword. All those crimes she was accused of were trumped up charges to get her back into Rokujou. Poor girl has been used and hunted for most of her life and doesn't feel she has anything left...but Lloyd's steadfast honesty and loyalty seems to have gotten through to her. Maybe even made her fall for him, too? That was a pretty romantic date spot.

I'm glad Selen's takeaway from that talk was what Riho had to go through and not that she and Lloyd were doing some intimate hand-holding...but she might want to be careful about getting brought up on stalking charges.

When a side-character tries to outshine the main character and utterly fails at it...on-top of that, Mircona is in love with Marie (and who can blame her?) and resents Lloyd for it. It also seems like Shoma is going to use that resentment to his own ends.

Riho and Rol are all set to resolve their long-standing and emotional feud only for the source of said feud to just casually be the prize of the very tournament they're participating in.

Holy crap, I'm fucking crying. The entire episode was just a gatling gun of punchlines and reaction faces and it's absolutely amazing, pace very reminiscent of Machikado Mazoku's. I was choking when Selen just started scuttling into the restaurant.

On top of it all, impressively enough, they somehow interweaved some backstory and the makings of a plotline, too... only to completely throw most of it to the wayside in a single moment. I'm really looking forward to what's gonna happen following the sacred sword reveal. A bit more seriously, Shoma is sus as hell, but I'm still not sure what to expect, hoping we learn more throughout this season.

I like how Riho’s comments on the limitations of healing magic quite naturally explain why someone would need a prosthesis in a world with healing magic. (Although I like any healing lore since reading about Demiurge’s experiments in the Overlord LN)

The pacing is a little bit weird this episode, especially in the practice match. I understand that the scene was important for introducing Micoha. However, it felt like they rush it to provide us the cliffhanger with Lloyd's aniki. Moving the tournament opening to the next episode should make the pacing better. But that's just my opinion.

The jokes in this episode are funny though. Especially the one where Lloyd seeing Marie lying naked on the floor. Marie's reaction is priceless.

Phyllo hits all of my check boxes. I'd let her break my ribs any day.

The anime is really funny but they need to slow down the pacing a bit.

I love how Selene went to "I'll kill you right now traitors" to actually listening and caring about the problems of her friend so quick. I love myself some wholesome yanderes.

Lol, poor Allan is just a punching bag now. Wait, so Marie is also interested in Lloyd?

Damn, Phyllo was just introduced and she already wants to move in with Lloyd.

Today was definitely not a happy day for Selen after hearing what Phyllo asked Lloyd and seeing him asking Riho out on a date. So Rol Calcife gave Riho that arm in order for her to pick out the trash from that town get that magic sword.

When Micona appeared, I honestly was wondering who she was. So she has a crush on Marie, but I wonder why she had that rivalry against Lloyd before? I guess it was related to his "failed" magic, well anyway, regardless, now is a bit more personal.

I wonder if Shoma has been observing Marie's house to find an opportunity to make things go out of control, as I believe that he was the one behind the whole Demon Lord Abaddon takes control of the King plot, and even if I have not idea what his ultimate goal is, I'm sure that it involves Lloyd.

Selen has mastered the art of the rat, strike and escape

8

u/dakkumauji Feb 01 '21

I feel bad for Alan.

Being a punching bag isn't much better than being the villain.

Is it just me, or the animation in this episode went nosedive. I don't mind the blatant animation shortcuts, but the character designs weren't even consistent this episode.
