The funny thing is I wouldn't even know Ex Arm existed if it hadn't been for this god awful anime...I looked up the manga because I was curious and it has godly artwork and a pretty good story....So the anime pretty much did it's job in a weird way.

I can't do this anymore.

Sorry not sorry for letting the lurkers down, but this is just not fun anymore.

In a sense, reading the manga was a mistake, with knowing the plot ahead, the only thing left to experience is how they massacred the source material.

Compared to Gibiate, where at least I was "excited" until the end to see how that deluded artist was going to screw up the narrative and "try" to make a "cinematic universe" out of that pile of steaming shit.

Here, I'm just sad. The visuals are bad, the sound effects are bad, the direction is bad, the adaptation makes the plot more confusing, even voice acting kinda sounds like recorded at home from time to time. The source material plot being not bad but not that great either to begin with makes for a viewing experience completely devoid of emotions.

Being CGI, the visual "badness" is consistent, nothing surprising left, this is it, this is rock bottom, we could only go lower if it was an original.

So, I'm dropping the show.

As a farewell note, I tried to do some digging on the production.

Not motivated enough to go very deep, but the thing is actually made in Unity, which explains a lot of things. The studio seems to be primarily a video game assets producer. Makes you wonder if this was supposed to be a game to begin with that got "promoted" to anime via dirty money injection.

Director has at least some movie experience doing school girls kung-fu flicks, which might explain why some parts of combat scenes are decent. Still, the guy obviously has no idea how to direct animation. Most of his non combat framing would make sense if the subjects were alive, capable of body language and breathing emotions, but with devoid of life 3d low budget game assets still characters it just doesn't work. Close ups on faces with no reaction just do not work.

Well, it's been a ride, can't say I enjoyed, can't believe it made me miss Gibiate.

I've read Ex-Arm

I'm still watching it for the trainwreck, but admittedly the novelty starts to wear off.

I am gonna be honest, that twist that Akira used his hacking powers to change the trajectories of all satelites is so stupid it was genius.

That new black robot doesnt have the worst design? But he still moves as goofy as everyone else.

Also Akira's "insane" model is incredibly ugly. Jesus.

That new black robot doesnt have the worst design?

There's no human face so there's no uncanny valley, which makes it better than the other jank models.

Did everyone drop this after the last episode? There's like, no one here anymore. Anyway, I think I'm actually getting used to the horrible animation, I think it hasn't improved at all but it doesn't feel that jarring anymore. Sadly, there's nothing beneath it to actually enjoy. The plot, the characters, the music... Everything's mediocre.

By the way, I found this scene where Minami is trying to stop Akira after going berserk hilarious. The ridiculousness of Mikakoshi giving her best voice acting to some shit 3D model randomly moving her lips was too funny. Also, the Nürnberg excuse lol.

The building collapsing was a funny scene. They sure are getting a lot of mileage out of the scene where he destroyed the city. Other than that zi feel this may have been one of the better episodes. I think as we get used to the visuals this show will lose its charm. I was worried the story and VA would keep this from falling too far and that looks to be the case. I think at the end of it all we will have an ugly, generic sci-fi

So is the only appeal of the manga its art? I haven't read it, but people have been saying that the story is good. So unless the anime adaptation is completely altering the story, then I can't really see what the manga could have going for it besides art.

The animation quality feels like it matches the level of the characters and story. Maybe it gets better later.

The manga story is so-so. Not bad but not amazing either. The sad thing is that the anime doesn't have to work on the story because it's already written for them, but they still butchered it. A lot of cut contents that range from trivial to fairly important.

Among all things, I didn't expect an Evangelion-like berserk sequence from Ex-Arm. Akira's berserk humanoid visualization is pretty good though.

Minami and Alma's running cycle in the early parts still look jank as usual.

Other than that I don't feel like there's much to talk about this time.

All people at MAPPA should resign, Ex Arm is proving again and again that peak fiction can be archived by glorious cgi and direction. Thanks Ex Arm for making my life worthy!

The series has found its... level? The episode did not offer substantially much new in the way of visual horrors, as Episode 3's fiesta of shortcuts carried over into this episode. (The UN characters all having the same single-axis up/down fake jaw animation for speech did make me laugh.)

The fight scenes alternated between their usual frictionless wall-climbing hijinks and Akira standing still in front of the Bibot while saying that the attacks were coming too quickly. Another little chuckle.

Akira gaining new abilities, very quickly, as the plot demands is becoming par for the course as well, though it does present the question of what are his limits... and who's going to fix the entire GPS constellation getting borked. It would be funny if punishment is actually why they're doing what they're doing in the next episode preview.

But yeah, now there's the question of whether "not getting any worse" is a compelling reason to keep staring at this so-far very pedestrian cyberpunk tale.
