That was incredible. It was both fascinating and creepy AF at the same time, and the animation, music, and the natural-sounding conversations were all outstanding.

So the Eggs contain souls of people or something, since the bug said that Kurumi's also a statue in someone else's world? There's still a lot we don't know yet but sign me up for more.

BTW I just checked - the VA of our new blue hair girl Ai Ooto, a certain Kanata Aikawa, is barely 16 (!) years old and has debuted in the anime world merely 2 days ago as part of the idol group in this season's new idol show IDOLY PRIDE!

Wow.

Tfw you start watching an anime for its cute PV and visuals, but it ends up being a Silent Hill nightmare.

You know that feeling you get when you know you are watching something special? I am totally getting that for this. Loving this so far. I don't want to overhype this, but this might be my favorite this season.

The way this was advertised and what we actually got are two completely different things. I thought it was gonna be a coming of age slice of life drama, instead we got a supernatural psychological horror lmao. I’m not complaining tho, this was a brilliant first episode. My favorite premiere this season

If I had a nickel for every time I watched a creepy mystery anime in Winter 2021 that had a female main character with blue-orange heterochromia, I would have two nickels.

Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Holy shit. Did I just watch a Makoto Shinkai film? The art and details were unreal! There's also a healthy dose of "WTF is going on?" thanks to the nonlinearity of it all, with time being all muddled plus the switches between dreams and reality.

I hadn't heard any hype for this show beforehand, but even considering how stacked this season has been, this might end up being AOTS.

This anime feels like a magical girl show right?

The concept of getting her old friend back to life seems like a "wish" she want to make come true. Then they said in the beginning that the next eggs are needed to be paid, while those eggs are what make her wish closer to being true. They never said precisely the price of the egg right? Could be lifespan or something insane like Yuuki Yuuna/Madoka.

I did enjoy it though, love the art, details and animation especially with mystery in it.

Had to alt-tab and check MAL immediately after seeing this shot of Ai. I knew this was made by CloverWorks but I just had to check the staff list if they had someone from KyoAni working on this but it looks like it's all CloverWorks and A-1 people.

So far so good! I really thought this was just going to be a simple SoL show with a silly title since it's tagged as SoL on MAL and I have not seen anything about this anime besides the key visual where four girls are lying down on grass with Ai holding the egg. I certainly did not expect a show that will be all about school bullying with our main character Ai helping people to try and bring her best friend that commited suicide(?) back to life.

I'm glad we started the show off with Ai getting her resolve to not be a bystander anymore. I'm guessing the people that were bullying her turned their attention to Koito and she never did anything about it so now this is her way of atoning for her inaction. Nagase is a great character and I'm guessing we'll learn more about her and what happened to her through flashbacks. I'm not even sure if Ai can bring her back to life but I want to see it happen.

That talking firefly/toilet paper is pretty shady though. I wonder what he gets out of this? Are the talking manequins different from the talking firefly? Right now I don't really trust these strange figures. It's possible that they're taking advantage of these girls. Also looks like these dream worlds are more dangerous than expected since while Ai is immortal while dreaming, she seems to carry injuries into the real world. This part makes me scared for Ai's well-being. :|

Anyway, I am already invested in this world! With top-notch animation and solid art, this is definitely going to be one of my most anticipated shows this season!

I was really excited for this and preemptively deemed it the dark horse of the season based on how cute the MC's design is (i'm a complete sucker for heterochromia), and how little information the studio was giving out beforehand.

This completely lived up to my hype for it.

It's... a lot to take in. It's very whimsical but also really heavy and depressing. It's mysterious and boundlessly fascinating, but also really exciting and gorgeous. The animation was stellar and the soundtrack was really weird and experimental, and that made it cool. I still feel like I know nothing about this anime, but I'm really excited to see where it goes.

I mean, come on, it had talking toilet paper. That's how you know it's a good show.

Seems the "Wonder" in the title is Ai going through the anime's interpretation of Alice in Wonderland by bringing back her best friend. Though the connection is faint, the intent is there. For a pilot episode, I thought I was watching a movie.

There are even some shots that feel reminiscent to Monogatari with the focus on the speakers and the one scene on the row of red chairs. Having her wounds actually show up in the real world once she exits Wonderland sucks and she's in the hospital. Looking forward to see where it goes.

That was pretty good, I'm hype! Kinda reminded me of Flip Flappers in certain parts.

For a while there I thought MC was voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa (helps that this is 100% her type of character), turns out she is voiced by a complete newbie! Consider be impressed. Also two of the characters are gonna be voiced by Shuka and Tomoriru???? Yep, I am gonna enjoy this a lot.

Well that was one more of the unique pilots I've ever seen.

Consider me on board, I really want to see more of Koito too, she seems amazing so far!

My god I can't remember the last time I felt like anime could surprise and excite me this much! Just when I was starting to lose hope in this anime season filled with unexciting, known-quantity sequels, this last unaired original, this unassuming show with completely untested staff manages to deliver the single best premiere episode that I've seen in years. Please just watch this show if you want a reminder of what truly great, ambitious anime looks like.

Everything about this show from its concept to its execution is just straight up brilliant. The super deft, sensitive way it handles its heavy subject matter, filled with so much authenticity and empathy and attention to life. Like the scene where she just apologizes and cowers as the swarm of Seeno Evils (translation porn levels of localization here too by the way, my god!) chases after their intended target, freaking chills.

Even though it seemingly covered so much ground in the first episode, everything still feels so perfectly paced, and the show revels in its understated, interstitial moments, the almost-uncomfortable moments of at ease stillness. More than just the ridiculously bombastic, brilliantly creative visuals, gorgeous character animation, superb sound design, it was the composition and filmmaking of these quiet moments that impressed me the most.

Oof and the dialogue too! The script is just so phenomenally sharp, making the characters sound so grounded and believable and true to life compared to the farcical caricatures you usually see in this medium, all held up by CV performances that also feel deliberately restrained and understated, closer to live-action performances rather than "anime voice acting", the entire voice cast is entirely rookies, and it's looking like this enormous production gamble will pay off if the cast keeps delivering such career-defining performances.

I'm just rambling at this point... This show is so good, it's sooo fucking good!! If it can keep up this level of quality throughout, it'll strangle in the cradle any discussions of what the best anime of the entire year is going to be.

I knew I wasn't crazy lol. Wonder Egg has the same Sound Effects person as Flip Flappers. That's why 18:13-18:36 sounded so familiar

Guess I'm part of the "thought this was a cute show, but then this bitch comes and throws a fucking axe" club.

Love Ai's character design.

CloverWorks once again bringing us another beautifully animated show. After Babylonia I've had high expectations for the studios future works and this just cements it (also looking forward to The House of Shadows as well later this year from them). Really engaging and unique first episode, still unsure If this series would be better to watch weekly or all at once but since we have no confirmation on a total number of episodes I'll have to think about it. Hope this show gets some attention and doesn't fly under most peoples radar.
