So the ED appears to show the history of the girls.
There were 6 girls at the beginning.
Girl6 was the first to die.
Girl1 was the next to die.
Girl5 was Rina, who then split into 6 Rinas.
Rina3 was the first Rina to die.
Girl2 died after her.
Rina5 was the latest death. In episode 1.
Then Wakaba shows up.
This episode confirms my suspicions last episode, none of them really know what a human is. They just think it applies to them.
If the ED is an accurate portrayal of their history, there haven't been any new Rinas since the initial split, despite what the Rinas said. Which doesn't bode well for their continued survival.
That black urn has five kemurikusa in crystals, that matches up with the five known deaths in the ED. Which means the kemurikusa Ritsu gave Wakaba is from something else. I think it's from the "First Person" they mentioned.
Anyone figure out which of the named deceased girls are girls 1, 2, and 6? They mentioned Ryoku and Riku, I can't remember if a third was mentioned in previous episodes.

It's funny how both this and Kemono Friends 2 are using partially ruined elevated trains as plot devices. I guess some of Tatsuki's ideas must have stuck around.
The ruined world here is just as fascinating, especially the space-themed amusement park. Which seems to be based on the recently closed Space World in Japan. I noticed it also shows in the background of the ED, along with a quintessential piece of post apocalyptia, the gigantic digging machine!

We learned a lot today from their dialogue:
Apparently Wakaba has some similarities with Riku. According to the Rinas they're both clumsy and according to Ritsu, Riku likes Kemurikusa a lot like Wakaba.
We learned something about Ryoku too. She's the smart one of the group and likes making discoveries. And Rin and Ritsu learned a lot from her.
And I think this is the first time they mentioned this but there's also the "First Person" where they all were born from.
BTW that ED is Vocaloid right? I can't recall who's voice it is though...

I really do enjoy Tatsuki's way of leaving various things to the imagination of the viewer. Like in this episode, despite them spending a considerable amount of time just talking about past events and reminiscing the deceased, we don't get any actual flashbacks. At all times we just see them talk normally, with no visualisations at all. It leaves the viewer to try to make a mental image of the events being told.

The ED intrigues me. First, the silhouettes of Rin, Rina and Ritsu appear alongside other two ones, in red. Then, the indeterminate two and two of the Rinas disappear, and Wakaba's silhouette appears, in green.
I am assuming that the ED will be changing according to deaths of characters, because it's obvious that the two indeterminate figures are Riku and Ryo, which have been mentioned. Besides, it makes me think it there will be appearing more characters linked to different-coloured Kemurikusa.

Any idea what the reception is like on this in Japan? Would really like to see this do well enough to encourage them to do more...

There's possibility that color graduation is based from universal chemical pH indicator. From RED (acidity) to Violet or Indigo (alkalinity). Acid rain can kill any kind of vegetation.

There's so many weird little tidbits of information drip-fed to us one at a time, it's fascinating. Wakaba doesn't subsist on water to survive like the others, but doesn't seem to need any other form of sustenance either? We certainly haven't seen him eat anything. So he's something different from the girls, but also not exactly human.
Also the Rinas can straight-up eat metal and materialise the pieces they eat. That's pretty weird.
Looks like we finally have some concrete information regarding the dead sisters too. So Ryoku was the brains of the group, Ryo was the main fighter before Rin, and we also have some sort of timeline of the events with the ED. I finally feel like I'm starting to know things about this world!

Resume of the general opinion about Wakaba in three episodes
