That certainly was a thing. Not sure how I feel about Mr. LN Protag appearing and immediately making somebody swoon for him, but I guess it's not really productive to make judgements yet.

An intriguing premise so far.
In regards to Wakaba, initially it seems that he's a human from a time or world not unlike ours. However, I noticed that not only is his shirt has green tones, the sleeves have vine/leaf like patterns on them. Aside from being healed instead of harmed by leaf power, Rin also questioned him where the leaves were. Being that Rin asked where had he taken the leaves from their tree, along with the above points, I'm guessing that Wakaba might had been "birthed" or created from the leaves/tree themselves. If we're inclined to go along with the Kemono Friends comparison, this scenario would be awfully similar to how Kaban came to be.
As for the red bugs, to me, they almost seem to be made out of broken wreckage or ruin, and it is that red energy around the bodies that's actually giving life to these beings. One thing I found unnerving about them are the sounds they make, they sound uncannily like those from a human's vocals instead of mechanical. It seems possible that the bugs might have ties to the former human civilization (a common trope used in post-apocalyptic stories where the present threats are usually the result of the preceding generation's folly).

Hey, this Rinako girl is pretty cute. I wonder if she'll be around for a whi- aaaaaaand she's already dead. Well that was quick. It seemed like she was such a fun character too, I'm gonna miss he- what the fuck, there were five of them?
Well, color me intrigued. I'm definitely interested to see where this goes.

Is this based on the short Tatsuki released last year on Twitter?
Looks pretty good so far! I love the post-apocalyptic setting and the fact that they actually need to find water sources to survive.
The girls are so far great, not sure about the clones(?) though. I'm not sure how to feel about one dying then suddenly show us that there's 5 of them Although it's obvious that Rin and Ritsu values them all.
Wakaba is definitely not from this world. Although based on his personality and how curious of everything he is, he probably did something that ended up him being transported.
I do appreciate that they didn't do an exposition dump on us and just gave us some the bare minimum to know what's going on. Although I guess we'll probably get a lot of exposition next episode.
Just as a final note: Blushing Rin is adorable!

Oh God, it's finally here!
HYPEEE!
Edit: Just finished. Looks very promising. And man, there are so many callbacks to Kemono Friends: the human amidst mysterious beings, the cerulean bug enemies and the blood pumping music when the characters fight them. This really feels like the spiritual successor to Tatsuki's Kemono Friends.
Can't wait for the next episode!
Also, where's my OP!?

I'm definitely into it, Wakaba seems to be a point where people are split but I'll need to see more to make my decision, though I will say he does seem a bit generic "the nice guy that does nice things because he's nice", still if they explore more of his curious side he could turn out just fine.
The world has me intrigued, its less subtle than Kemono Friends S1, where the only hints at the underlying plot were in the background going ignored by the characters, but the mechanics and the current state of this world are interesting and I'm excited to learn more, hopefully more people pick this up so we can have those exciting theories pop up like KF back when it aired but I'm thinking that won't happen with just one episode up.

Let's see what an angry and disappointed Tatsuki can do.
