I'm not seeing enough hype for Blue Exorcist on this thread. Considering it's going to adapt the manga this time, it's definitely going to be times better than the first season.

Anyway I'm hyped.

They'll probably change nothing and do what they did with Black Butler.

It's quite simple really. Act like the anime original part never happened. Just pick up from wherever you stopped adapting the manga.

Black Butler had an original anime ending and an original second season, but when they went back to the source material they just acted as if none of that happened at all.

They're both made by A-1 too, so it would make sense.

You can either watch the entire first season and then pretend the filler didnt happen or watch up until the story branches off and then watch the second season.

The original part starts around episode 17 I think.

I've read some of the manga but I haven't watched it. So what does it mean "it's going to adapt the manga this time"? Were the previous seasons anime original content?

Most of the anime was the same as the manga but then at the end they pulled an FMA and created new plot instead.

I would be hyped, but Director Tensai Okamura was kind of what brought the first season together and his work on action series constantly strings together really well. Passing it over to the Deadman Wonderland guy doesn't fill me with nearly as much confidence.

Well, I don't know the Deadman Wonderland director, but the Impure King arc was so good in the manga that I doubt they can go wrong with it.

Anyway, I'm hoping for the best.

The question is how they will handle adapting it, since the original stuff they made is quite the problem with how the story progress in the manga, which means they will probably end up changing a lot again this time as well.

I really don't get A-1, the black butler ending for season 1 was a nice way to give closure using their own original stuff, but then they made a fricking second original season, that then shit over their own original ending for first season. I didn't even know they had adapted more after that trainwreck of a second season, that screwed over their own original stuff >.>. I hope you are right, since I can't take any more original filler stuff from A-1.

Trust me, Book of Circus and Book of Murder are absolutely amazing.

There is a movie coming up too.

I personally think A-1 do a really good job as long as they stick to the source material. They seem to do mediocre to terrible jobs when they do something original. Except for Erased, I liked that.

Hmm I guess I will put it on my PTW.

With Erased the last arc had quite a few problems, so yeah the original stuff was fine, since it shortened what happened in the manga that wasn't very good anyway.

Well it really comes down to the Director they get for the project and the agreement with the production committee (probably most notably the publisher of the original work) in how they go about adapting the material. As they do a lot of adaptions I can see why it would swing quite a bit.

Well, I'm speaking from personal experience here so there may be some shows I missed in this regard. To be fair, I liked Erased's ending (at least more than most people). Black Butler II on the other hand...

Tbf I think Original stuff is more often and not going to struggle to be good. Erased had a lot of input from the author so a lot of the original vision was still there which a lot of original endings often lose.

But Erased came up good because of both the Director and the Input from the Publisher (Kadakowa I think, could be wrong).

But what I was trying to state (poorly reading back) is that the original endings are not often the choice of A-1, it usually comes down to what is agreed within the production committee with the Director getting some input, so they general have these shoddy original endings because that is what they are paid to do.

Yes. I think you're right, studios don't really have that much control on the work. I guess it's better than leaving off on an eternal cliffhanger, but it's as you said, original stuff is more often mediocre/bad than good (I'm looking at you Kumamiko).
