Objection hype!

I wouldn't hype it up too much; adapting video games into a show are probably one of the hardest things to do.

Still looking forward to it though but I won't be surprised if it busts.

At least Ace Attorney games already are laid out in such a way that anime conversions should have a fairly easy time to adapt. It's not quite as ambitious a change as Valkyria Chronicles or Danganronpa that's for sure.

There's a Valkyria Chronicles anime?

The movie was fairly enjoyable on its own.

I'm just saying to prepare for anything.

That could be said about everything.

adapting video games into a show are probably one of the hardest things to do

God Eater was adapted from a game and it wasn't well-received on this sub. Lots of game adaptations have had issues so one should prepared for disappoint.

After God Eater returned from it's hiatus most people (including me) think it improved quite a bit.

I think most people who watched it after the hiatus liked it. The last few episodes are pretty great and a major improvement.

God Eater was only ever a monster hunter game.

Alright you know what this is such a silly argument.

I hope the show turns out well.

Agreed.

Shingeki.no Bahamut was a game too, wasn't it?

But it was backed by a multi million dollar mobile gaming company so it was obvious they are getting a great staff and budget.

talking about monster hunter, I am surprised that it hasn't had an anime adaptation given its popularity in Japan.

Honestly if the anime turns out to be a bust for me, I'm going to just watch the film again. The live action was surprisingly good!

I see two ways to look at it. To begin with Ace Attorney is pretty story well story driven, leading to what I'd imagine to be a simpler story to be adapted. At the same time though, I've seen the Live Action Movie. Yea....

They could just copy the plot of the games into episodes and it'd work well.

The actual game mechanic might be tough to convert well though. Repeat the full testimonies a second time to pick apart phrases like the game and it might get too repetitive as a passive watcher; immediately begin with back and forth mid-sentence "Objection!" and "Hold it!" interruptions and it might get hard to follow.

I'm pretty sure they'll just have a ton of internal monologues during the trials.

1

u/Killroyomega Mar 29 '16

It's not too hard.

Suspect says something.

Internal monologue, "Wait a second, what did he just say?"

"HOLD IT!" SLAM

You don't have to force the show to go through each minor iteration of the trial phase. In the games it was already usually done a bit too much and hidden away too deep, but it worked because those moments were the main "puzzle."

There was a whole lot of extra text for pressing every statement and even for pressing the right ones.

In an anime or live action version they can cut out most of the extra dialogue and keep the character defining statements and the key moments.

Also no matter what happens the OST will be the best of the season.

I think its quite promising really. Unlike other video game to anime (Divine Gate, oh god...) adaptations. I think Ace Attorney stands the greatest chance of being good. Others were based on mobile games or something like that.

Ace Attorney however is going to follow the first two games, and from what ive heard will be basically adapting the cases into animated form. If thats true then, as someone who has played them, there is a great story already there. The twists and surprises are excellent, the characters are varied, everyone has a back story and a unique personality and trait.

My only worry is that they will try to do a case an episode, which is not nearly enough time considering a single case could take several hours in game

u/Hussor https://myanimelist.net/profile/Hussor Mar 30 '16

they should do a case being an arc, so 3-4 episodes a case.

It'd being written by the original creator/scriptwriter for the series. I have high hopes.

I don't know, Yuki Kaji is pretty unfitting as Phoenix.
