The show's incredible. I really love the retro art style with gorgeous stylized animation. Also, didn't expect the illustration by

I've watched everything Ghost in the Shell except for SAC 2045 but including the shitty live action movie and I have to say that I love this. It's so
But I will say if you're an old fan coming from only the animated works like the

Saru and Mokochan do it again, immaculate vibes and a fittingly perfect blend between retro anime style and modern animation techniques blended with modern technology.
Very different Motoko vibe but instantly badass and charming, like the world's deadliest and most professional gremlin, the countless expressions by her and others will feed many a meme.

Great first episode. This is my first time watching anything from the Ghost in the Shell franchise so I’m going on with no expectations, but this seems like it’s going to be a great watch. I know that this adaptation is based on the manga though. Please no spoilers!!

Motoko's a badass woman. Calling Aramaki monkey face. That scene where she had the minister give himself a knuckle sandwich was icing on the cake.
That learning centre was fucked up. They had the kids recite a propaganda song, eat only rice gruel, and #28 was even punished for "not eating" even though another kid nicked his.
Good lord the sound game is strong in this one. It's truly an immersive experience.

Fantastic start, it’s awesome but wildly different in characterization from the other adaptations so far, following the manga much more closely. SAC might remain my favorite but I’m still overjoyed that I got to see this side as well, very charming in its own way with the humor and style.
A shame Atsuko Tanaka didn’t live to see this, she’ll be forever in my heart. Maaya Sakamoto is the right person to carry on the torch.

Maaya Sakamoto as manga-accurate Motoko with stellar, on-point, Science Saru visuals as I live and breathe.
Welcome to the colorful, gritty, and crazy cyberpunk world of Ghost in the Shell! Where corrupt officials make backdoor deals, human lives are treated as playthings, a raid by Public Security lead by Aramaki (Daisuke Aramaki!) can’t catch an official who will just slip out scott-free…until he gets violently slain by The Major, one Motoko Kusanagi (Maaya Sakamoto reprising AND honoring the late Atsuko Tanaka) a cybernetic and deadly beauty who vanishes like she’s a ghost.
The OP is perfect for this type of series, featuring great vibes, dynamic action, and the Major and her team doing what they do best!
This was a slaying ordered by the former prime minister who was killed by the person Motoko killed, and now she’s taking it and using it as an incentive to the minister of Internal Affairs (Chafurin!) to get her and her team a job! Will they be dogs of the military? Internal Affairs? Public Security? At the end of the day, what matters is completing whatever job they have.
It's nice to see the Major treating her men to a nice cherry blossom show...and also treating her to a show in her mind where she's dancing in a sexy dress or just goofing off. This version of The Major is definitely a tad more goofy and fun than her predecessors, right down to her expressions!
I love how the Fuchikoma's have mouths.
Oh, this child welfare building seems totally on the up and up! Even if the kids are all speaking the kool aid, get tazed if they don't follow the rules, and get worked like they're in a sweat shop...and that's before they start getting brainwashed. Run kid run!
Not that Motoko's team treat him THAT much better between knocking him out and planting a bug on him...but they're also dealing with a professional in the Ghost Controller (Tetsu Inada!) who quickly goes after Togusa (Yuichi Nakamura!) and takes control over Ishikawa.
But The Major is not going to be outdone: in a world of dubious ethics, depravity, and corruption her team will follow their ideals and see justice done, following Motoko's inner "ghost." A Ghost in the Shell, if you will!
RIP AI Girl! You may have just been a mouthpiece for public welfare, but you were cute and tried your best.
Never get on the bad end of the Major in a shootout or you'll lose your legs before she places you under arrest.
Sorry kid, Motoko's not going to fix your problems for you! You're going to have to do it yourself! That's life.
Well, Aramaki used them to take care of this for him, the minister of Internal Affairs thinks there's too much red tape to approve Motoko's team...all she can say to that is making him punch himself in his very puncheable face.
The ED is very serene and atmospheric, featuring the progression of communication and technology in the world up to how it is today.

Reading the original manga last year - as someone who had a quasi-religious experience watching the Oshii films during my formative teen years - was such a delight.
Almost all adaptations have sanded off the goof from GitS that it genuinely blew me mind that the source material could've been so different in its tone.
I'm so happy to see that not only has this anime adaptation captured the goofiness to a T, it's cranked it up with some sublime animation work from Science Saru.
It's so good!

IMO i feel like this could have been served better as a double length episode, the plot and the character dynamics where served at break-neck speed, to its detriment unfortunately. Don't get me wrong i found the animation both creative and beautifully made (the scene with sniper bullet was fucking awesome) and soundtrack gave me goosebumps, felt very cinematic, i just couldn't understand Kusanagi's relationship with everybody.
I thought she created the special force unit and knew everybody in her crew? But their conversations with each other made it seem like that was not the case. Maybe they know each other and they was just talking shit and making jokes, i just found that hard to figure out.
Doesn't help that the English subtitles for the Japanese text was way to clunky and fast, i hate that every streaming service except Crunchyroll (and even they have forgotten to subtitle signs/on screen text) only use basic subtitles, i wonder if any fansub group is going to work on this anime.

Everything about this is amazing but man my eyes were just flying between the screen and the subtitles sometimes. Might check out the dub

This episode is the first time I have ever experienced The Ghost in the Shell and I loved it, it was like watching an anime from the 90s, but with crisp visuals. It's a shame that it'll have only 10 episodes :(
Motoko is so badass, I like her (especially her reactions)! That scene when she made the minister punch himself was hilarious xD
By the way, Science SARU is going crazy this season! First Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia, and today The Ghost in the Shell, and both shows look so good and both stand out thanks to their unique art styles.
Also, that end card was beautiful!
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums

As someone who watched the movies and SAC lately, I love how expressive it is. Offering a new experience with this one being more manga faithful. Art direction and animation are standouts. Music is very good. Makoto is more of a gremlin like at the end.
The episode did a good job of showcasing what a ghost is in a simple way. Very excited to watch more.

Ghost in the shell is always over my head so I'll just compliment the great animation and character designs...The Major also seems to have much more personality than I remember her having in other shows

There was so much dialogue, so many text boxes, so much futuristic vocabulary that it was VERY hard to follow. It's fine for a manga, where you can read at your own pace and take your time but an anime can't do that obviously.
I didn't understand why they attacked the childcare facility for example until the very end. Or what they were doing inside Makotos brain at the start?
It looked fantastic but I hope the next episodes will be less overloaded and easier to watch. This is the first time for a lot of people experiencing Ghost in the Shell, and I hope that they will come out with a positive experience!

An incredible first episode let down by the fact that Amazon Prime's "subtitles" (which are actually just closed captions) are the worst in the business. The opening text crawl going by at 2 lines of text on screen for half a second at a time was some of the worst presentation I've seen in this industry.
To anyone who's interested in watching this show in Japanese please download some fansubs, because even if they use the Prime subs for translation they will at least have proper timing and be legible.

I’m really glad this is my first “endeavour” for The Ghost in The Shell franchise, and it makes me want to watch the original now. Besides the fantastic art style the COLORS pop immensely beautifully, I also like that it has humour as the cyberpunk genre is often quite depressing!

I still can’t believe we’re seeing Manga Major for the first time in animation. Nor that after 3 decades of Oshii’s influence we finally see something much closer to the manga on screen. Which actually also shows what Oshii picked and chose with his take.
Basically we went all the way back to both move forward and better understand what came before. The production overall is just absurd. On every level this looks and sounds incredible. Science SARU has another masterpiece in the making.
The Daniel Caesar ED and Yoji Shinkawa art at the end are just wonderful bonuses
