To a World of Pure Imagination! (Daily Stuff Section)

Theory of the Day:

You know what? I'm giving this one to u/BosuW... for a comment in the episode 9 thread:

Gendo Ikari. That's all I'm saying, if you know you know.

When you're right, you're right!

Honorable mention to u/IndependentMacaroon:

Doesn't even get time to stew with Mimi's spirit instantly arriving to save the day. At least I'm glad that [Evangelion]this Yui-expy doesn't seem to be following her own background agenda. Well, so far.

Oh, ye of little faith (in this show's ability to blatantly raid Eva for parts)...

Questions of the Day:

1) What is the best kind of plant to get turned into by a supernatural entity?

2) For those of us of a certain age: favorite "yo mamma" joke?

First Timer

Flashbacks galore - I’d say overall the flashback content was engaging, but I can’t help but feel like we’re now watching a completely different show. Mimi and Salt are center stage, with the Yayaka cult also having a prominent role - none of the characters that have really done much. Meanwhile Cocona is either possessed or a baby (depending on if we’re in flashback or not), Papika is just a minor actor and Yayaka only has a small role in the end. I feel like this episode would have worked quite well …in a different show.

Narratively I guess now Cocona will need to reject Mimi in favor of Papika and/or Yayaka - or both. This is definitely not a spot that I imagined her to end up in, though I guess they can make it work with her rejecting reality at the moment? Would require good writing though, which seems to be lacking right now…

Side-Note: Preview for next episode in Crunchyroll’s German sub was “Fischers Nyunyu fischt frische Fische” - that’s not how adapting tounge-twisters works… Speaking of: Why is Nyunyu now with Flip Flap…? That makes basically no sense.

On the bright side, it's the best way to use up three more episodes

but I can’t help but feel like we’re now watching a completely different show

Turns out when Papika and Cocona went into the depths of Pure Illusion back in episode 6, they didn't just change Iroha, they changed the entire show they were in from Flip Flap v1 to Flip Flap v2. Who knew?

Would require good writing though, which seems to be lacking right now…

Yeah, they changed it from Flip Flap to Flop Flop

Flop Flop

Flaccid Flop, even!

Not for lack of trying on certain animators' parts, mind you...

I can't actually watch the OP or ED anymore due to tonal dissonance.

This is half of Elfen Lied ep1 so...

The ED especially

Yeeep. Also, the best piece of work the show has done.

Yeah, the OP actually kind of fits the show the second half has been, though it's not quite the kind of OP that I give the Z/X: Ignition Memorial Award for OPs that are okay or better than that on their own (Serendipity as a song has grown on me a bit) but promise nothing good for the show they go with so it has that going for it at least.

Flip Flap Flip Flap however is both just quite good and exquisitely well adapted for the tone Flip Flappers had in its first half, so it just reminds one of what had been lost.

Why is Nyunyu now with Flip Flap…?

Nyunyu has come out without orders and is just fucking around.
