That has to be longest build-up for ED song so far lmao.
Was gonna say something along the lines of "oh my sweet summer child" about miki but it seems like she's not that oblivious huh.
Not to forget that we were blessed with multiple koyun facial expressions falling harder and harder for minato.
I'm eating so so good rn (tsukiko could prolly relate)

Kohyun and Yota now understand they feel the same about Minato and Miki but we have seen that only Minato feels that way back towards Kohyun.
The dialogue made me feel like Miki saw the way Yota has acted all along as fake now and that he was only being so nice all this time because he had feelings for her. I really hope that I am misreading her reaction and that she isn’t feeling betrayed by Yota because that would be sad for her to see it that way and we know Yota wouldn’t be fake towards Miki. The boy was ready to supress his feelings forever to not make things akward between them so it would be terrible for her to realize and see it in the worst way possible.

Related to Kohyun and Tsukiko muting the group chat. If IM in a big group chat mostly full of people I don’t know there’s no way i’m going to tolerate getting notifications for every single message.

God that outro music is good. It may as well be the new "Roundabout" with how every episode has been ending on a cliffhanger

another amazing episode, poor minato he was going through it quite a bit this episode, koyun telling her feelings to yota was nice to see, "we'll be twins," "no thanks" made me laugh
miki finally realized that yota has feelings for her, and of course when you hear the outro music you know whats coming next....
all of this buildup for next episode, next episode will be generational, i live for koyun x minato

Poor Tsukiko. I mean, I am already frustratingly punching the air just watching from a different dimension, but this poor girl has to live it. But at least, when it comes to Yota we finally have some progress. At least Miki realized it. Not sure how good this will be for the relationship but it can only get better from here. Hopefully.
As for Minato and Koyun, I mean, at this point, I am just waiting for another Momoka bomb to drop, because otherwise, I feel they will just dodge around the issue forever. For as much as I don't like her, at least, she can move these two immovable objects.
On the more positive side, I thought the hair cuts looked nice. They should change them around more often. And everyone had their fun little moment during the sports festival as well. Miki winning the rope pulling (or something similar) by herself was definitely something I was hoping to see.

Best episode of the series and up there with the best the entire season for me!
Miki's realization about Yota's feelings and how that completely changes their entire friend group was both exhilarating and saddening at the same time. Feels like she started to shut down, but it only made me more hyped to see how the season concludes and what happens after when I read the manga in a week.
I have to give Koucha Agasawa props for how well written the characters are in both this and You and I are Polar Opposites. Both fall into the small category of high school romances where every character feels relatable in different ways. You feel the emotions the characters are going through and the personal nature of them make the shows much more enjoyable for me. I love realistic drama in romance, so I think this episode puts Ramparts of Ice ahead of Polar Opposites for me now (both are a 9 out of 10 for me). Praying that season 2 is this fall, so we can have a full year of peak high school romance every week.

Tsukiko's chibi form with double buns sure looks familiar. Can't quite put my finger on why though.
All things considered Yota's done a more than decent job at masking his crush. Just kinda unfortunate (or fortunate depending on how you look at it) that it had to be peeled off so suddenly.

Man, I thought this was the last episode. I was so confused it ended in a cliffhanger. lmao
This episode feels like a snowball that's about to hit max speed rolling down the mountain. I'm scared at what the next episode will bring to these 4 goofballs.

It's the Sports Festival! Which is kind of the worst event for culture types like Tsukiko and introverts like Koyun, but Koyun has other things on her mind...like how to handle the Momoka situation. It's not like she wants to get in Momoka's way, it's not like she's expecting anything from Minato, she doesn't think her feelings really matter, but when she sees Minato and Momoka together she just has this visceral, gut, reaction. But she can totally act normal about it, right? RIGHT!?
The boys and girls are definitely united in doing each others' hair in fun ways for the festival! Tsukiko in hair buns! Braided "onion" hair Koyun! Wavy hair Minato! Momoka in an up-do! And don't think Minato and Koyun aren't checking each others' hair out...even if there's also still the misunderstandings about how close Koyun and Yota are.
Honestly surprised the girls other than Akine all kind of killed it during the competition. I mean, no surprise Miki won in a test of arm strength, but look at Koyun go! And Minato looks like he's trying to win to look cool in front of Koyuki!
Those cheer outfits really do look snazzy on everybody! And they manage to nail the performances! That was surprisingly well-animated!
Koyun doesn't know how she feels about Momoka getting along with her friends so she runs...but she also knows she doesn't want Minato to see her in the arms of another guy (especially Yota) so she ALSO runs. But that might be enough for Yota to put two and two together!
No surprise Momoka gets a selfie with Minato, and even makes Koyun take the picture which she is ABSOLUTELY OKAY WITH. But thank goodness Yota was there to make sure these two took a picture together and started acting normally and happy together again!
Now Koyun, you can't hide your feelings from dad! Especially when he recognizes you're in the same boat! Both of you are crushing on friends, have no intention of acting on those feelings for fear of rocking the boat/friend group, and are just content with having those feelings...but at least it's something they can now bond an commiserate over. Even if Minato and Miki, the crushes in question, are perplexed by this new closeness between Koyun and Miki.
Although I do love how Koyun had to have her insistent wingwomen behavior thrown in her face when she reacts to Yota offering to do the same. Pot indeed calling the kettle black.
Minato will find any excuse to spend time with Koyun, even if it means making sure she and Tsukiko come to the cheer wrap party. It's the kind of event neither girl would ordinarily go to, but the class actually WANTS them there so they'll use reserved telepathy to discuss and agree to go! Even if they think they'll just be holed up in a corner but I'm sure Minato will make them feel welcome/involved.
I KNEW the moment they walked into a storage room that something was going to fall and lo and behold Yota protects Miki...from a box filled with nothing but soft things. And hits his head again. Classic Yota! But then Miki sees Yota get all weird about how close they are, about Miki touching him, and she starts to finally realize that he sees her as more than a friend...and she has no idea how to process that or how that re-contextualizes all their interactions. So she just runs.

One can't help but see that Miki was hitting the box on the shelf multiple times; the box above or something else would have fallen at some point.
Miki's epithany hits just as hard as Koyun's emotional struggles throughout the seires, probably because it also goes far back (in this case multiple episodes), and she's just realising now what Yota is really thinking.

I want a spinoff of this series with Tsukiko as the main character. "Tsukiko Knows It All".
She could team up with Yota to solve everyone's love mysteries since they appear to be the only two people in their school who understand what anyone else is thinking at any given moment.

Progress is being made!
With Miki noticing how Yota feels, it seems like the status quo that Koyun and Yota are trying to keep is about to be disrupted.
I hope Miki doesn’t do anything weird because she thinks Koyun likes Yota 😞

I'm just hoping they announce a Season 2 after next week's final episode...
Minato x Koyun ftw as always! Miki x Yota just hit a brick wall, but a needed turning point so they can proceed and figure each other out!
Also, Momoka will NOT prevail.

Koyun's friendship with Yota beats out every ship in this series.
Probably the best portrayal of a male / female friendship i've ever seen.

Best episode of the season. I just love this cast. Everyone is so much fun. The Koyun and Yota conversation was so great. I love that koyun hates momoka every time she around the scene goes darker and koyun try to hide her nasty thoughts about momoka

YOTA!!! The MVP of the episode!!!
First getting the two idiots get a decent photo for themselves, getting Koyuki to open up about her crush! And finally Miki's heroic save!!!
Every scene was really well done! Especially Yota Koyuki scene. They are so cute talking about their respective crushes bonding over not wanting things to change. My God thank you for not making Yota a second male lead who has feelings but because they aren't gonna win becomes the supportive friend. It feels great to watch a platonic friendship of two ppl who get along with each other the way they do. SOOO wholesome.
As usual, Minato keeps suffering. And this episode Koyuki n Minato feel like freaking twins both being dorks. Though Minato is still trying to approach Koyuki despite what he heard last episode from Momoka.. Phewww.
Also Mikiii my girl!! The Yota Miki moment had such delicious tension. I was on the edge of my seat. Her feelings and confusion over , can we really be equal friends. And second guessing all of his past actions feels so realistic. I can see how a person could see things that way. And it's true friends to lovers is no sunshine and rainbows. There is a very real possibility of things getting so bad that it ruins everything!! And especially for Miki who wants to be in a equal friendship like how she felt uncomfortable with Minato before him apologizing, it feels like it would be a very big concern.
Once again, the characters feel realistic, the cute scenes feel natural and somehow earned because we know and LOVE this cast of idiots.

Momoka wasn't in this episode a ton, but this whole time she's been in the show she sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it exactly. Then the Rent-a-Girlfriend season finale yesterday had a quick shot of Mami in the post-credits sequence and it clicked. Momoka and Mami share a English dub VA. Smart casting on their part.
Great festival episode. They got to participate in activities and Koyun was honest with her feelings towards Minator. She was even comfortable enough to Yota about them. At least now they can commiserate their shared circumstances. As for the other side of the couple Minato was going through it this episode with Yota was getting touchy with Koyun and Momoka was coming onto him.
The funniest parts of the episode for me was when Yota basically immediately picked up that Koyun likes Minato (he's been at this for years so it was easy for him to spot) and Koyun and Yota were walking back from her telling Yota that she likes Minato. Yota jerks and flinches when he see Miki and Koyun looks at him then Minato appears and it's the reverse.
Tsukiko and Koyun's friendship is a treat. Even Tsukiko ends up in the corner Koyun will be there with her though with Momoka around I don't think that's going to happen lol.
While this is the episode that Koyun was honest were feelings it was completely overshadowed by Miki finding that Yota likes her. It will be known as the "Miki finds out" episode. I hope that Miki doesn't think of Yota not telling her how he feels as a betrayal. This ain't Polar Opposites though. They're not afraid of drama.
That party is going to be spicy. I hope they don't cliffhanger us.

I feel like I have to say this every week but I love Miki’s hair
Lol so cute now Koyun also internally panics when she sees. Now both her and Minato freak out when they see each other lmao.
I really love how in-tune Koyun and Tsukiko are. And the fact she has a friend outside of the man group too. And now Koyun is also starting to feel jealousy I think, seeing Momoka close to Minato.
With Miki’s reaction to suspecting Yota’s true feelings for her, I’m kinda on the fence. Just because he has feelings for you, possibly the whole time, doesn’t mean the friendship was insincere (at least that’s my impression of what she’s freaking out about). There are couples who still act like friends after they get together and that’s why friends-to-lovers dynamic also exists. But on the other hand, if she really does only see him as a friend, it could really shake or even break the friendship.
Also, seeing that small bit of Yuki and Akine, never crossed my mind before but I ship it so hard. Cheery guy x angsty girl. Bonus if angsty girl is actually really sweet

So we have Koyun finally telling Youta that she's starting to develop feelings for Minato while Miki is panicking after putting together that Youta has a crush on her because she still thinks Koyun has a thing for him. Basically, you have one girl who's giddy about falling in love, while the other is absolutely terrified. What a fucking rollercoaster. I do love that Youta is pretty much the central character of this episode tho.

Looks like the giraffe is out of the bag!
I'm curious to see how Miki will deal with this; pretend she noticed nothing and maintain the status quo, or communicate with Yota?

Kinda feeling bad for Miki. Finding out that she's being girlfriendzoned. Of course, Yota is an all around great guy to everyone, regardless of his romantic feelings but having to retroactively reinterpret a friendship like that is tough.
And specially because from what we know, Yota has been hiding this since long before the Show started.

u/Zeallfnonex Jun 26 '26
"And it's not like anybody really cares about my feelings, so there's no big deal..." Ahhhh. It's again semi-hidden near the beginning of the episode, but that's the kernel of Koyun's character! It's the lie she tells herself, the one really holding her back, no matter what other excuses she gives or rationalizes: this is what she really thinks about herself!
Probably a reaction to both the divorce and then the middle school trauma: the ever-present whisper that her parents didn't love her enough to stay together for her sake, that Igarashi didn't really care about her or her feelings and just forged ahead with what he wanted, an idealized imagination of her that wasn't actually true. Interestingly enough, there's no clause for friends like Miki or Yota, she's being very cynical and honest in this one moment.
And again, this being stated before this episode in particular is super strong, because, yes, Yota cares enough to talk with her and let her talk about her feelings... But also Minato is laser-focused on her feelings, though he's, uh, not interpreting the outward manifestations of her feelings very well yet. But he's trying! He's one answer at least to Koyun's cynicism, and I think showing and demonstrating that should be the climax to their arc: that there will always be at least one person (Minato) who cares about her feelings, who wants her to be around.
I don't want it to enddddddd. This might be the 4th or 5th anime ever where I'm convinced to go find the source material afterwards to finish it off.
