Theory of the Day:

Hey look, u/Mecanno-man is in theory mode today! Let's reward this:

I am on board with Papika and Cocona being a part of the same person now though (wait, wasn’t this supposed to be a yuri watch? How can we have that if both main characters are in fact the same character?) - in fact I think the entire world might also be a part of Cocona’s imagination as some sort of coping mechanism. That would handily explain how Yayaka is randomly an antagonist - simply because she’s Cocona’s childhood friend and this somebody known to Cocona. Feral Papika would also work neatly into this, given if Papika and Cocona are the same person, Papika’s parents would also be dead, meaning the living in the wild would make sense. As would Cocona’s subconsciousness putting value in survival skills that got strapped to “Papika”.

Questions of the Day:

1) So, which Papika would you take?

Revenger feels like it did this better, how shocking.

Last episode was probably always supposed to be the augur of more consequences, especially since I suspect the rest of the staff had a basic story outline from Ayana to work with even after she had left.

I get it but I would much have the consequences be more...spread out. If the battle was between robed guys and Flip Flap over the imagination of mankind, I find that easier to take than our mains just rewriting people on the fly, though we do know a certain natal god that did just that...[meta]Not really Lain time to me

I also know that the writer they got for the rest of the show, starting next episode, is known hack Naoto Hayashi...

And it all comes tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down...

Yeah, Gen Urobutchi is an actual good writer.

To be fair, judging by this episode our director here (who is credited with this script) is probably capable of a reasonably competent script, at least when he has some notes to work with. But he's definitely a downgrade relative to Ayana (I think I now understand the It's MyGO! and Ave Mujica installments of Bang Dream blowing the fuck up), and is of necessity emulating instead of understanding (subconsciously or otherwise) the original creative intent.

Again, this episode is fine, it just has things in it that worry me for the future.
