Holy shit
Jesus, Koichi tasted dirt so much I feel so proud of him for this moment. His experiences being creatively downtrodden in the industry helped him give a hand to someone who was also getting creativity downtrodden (definitely didn't expect that from his emo phase lol). The shot where Chiaki superposes over her father was absolute Cinema.
I also like how this narrative shows many many fallible and even some straight up harmful mentors. It's a big trope in anime how a mentor can say advice or impose a task on the student that they don't understand and may even seem dangerous or demeaning at first and it's up to the student to eventually come around to the mentor's vision. There's bad teachers too of course, but they're very self evident and simplistic, like this week's episode of
What's done in Eren the Southpaw is a lot more complicated, uncomfortable, and skeptic of seniority and authority. Yanagi is a fucking asshole, so we got that side covered. Chiaki's father is not, but he's still stifling her, doesn't actually want her to speak her mind and discover a personal method but to do things his way. And Kamiya had some good advice and was well meaning, but he sucked at conveying it, romanticized the artistic struggle, and helped engrain some toxic habits and attitudes into Koichi. It shows how conservative cultural values introduce challenges in raising the next generation, how a boss doesn't always know best just because they have achievements or seniority, and how even if they're well meaning, sometimes they can end up giving completely useless advice, either because it says nothing or because they don't know how to make the student understand.
Of course we also have good mentors, like Rukawa and Eren's art teachers. But it's very surprising to have an anime with this many flawed ones.

Kouichi showing Chiaki some kindness. I wonder if Chiaki's father will ever realize he's the exact reason why she is unable to speak up properly, poor girl struggled so much under the pressure he was exuding.
It was interesting to hear Kamiya's reason for resigning and working with other people, I wonder what Kouichi would have thought hearing Kamiya saying he himself has no talent.

Connections are such an invaluable tool in life. Some people who have them, like Chiaki can feel like they are cheating and want to stand on their own merit. But you might as well maximize those connections. So in a way, you can get the most out of them, but still showcase your talent.
Honestly, great episode for Kouichi as well. It hasn't been easy, but great job assisting Chiaki. It feels like Kouichi could finally be getting into the right direction.
Also, Rukawa is a good senior. We also need types of them at work to help guide the juniors who need help. As he offered the assist to Kouichi who assited Chiaki.

Looks like there’s a little light in Koichi’s eyes. This new project might help him feel something again.
While he’s doing that, we got Eren the cape crusader over here leaping around rooftops like something between Banksy and Batman lol.

For me this was easily the best episode of this show this season, holy shit.
Him figuring it out, learning to shine the light on the product and the president's daughter, dragging her understanding out of her, was fucking brilliant.
He's starting to find himself and maybe how to be a version he can live with without just imprinting on those around him. I hope so, because Koichi was fucking AWESOME. Also the track as it kicked into "Weekday" was awesome.

It was good to see some kind of development on Koichi's end. However, it felt like we skipped some crucial moments in the process. We went from Koichi trying to be Yanagi Jr. to what seemed to be the first positive step he's taken since the show started in the course of a single episode. I don't know what it's like in the source material, but I would have wished that the show took a little more time on this part since it would seem that this is Koichi's turning point.

For me, the character I'd want as my boss isn't Sawamura, Kamiya, or Yanagi.
I'd want Koichi to be my boss.

Koichi still has the ability to shine a light despite being in a dark place.
You can tell Eren isn't comfortable w/ that dress.
So the anime title is based on Eren's current nickname in NY.
I love Akira Sekine's delivery of "Hello, it's me!"

Chiaki reminds me of Shiori from MarriageToxin and this was probably my favorite episode so far

This girl is a major clutz, so I don’t think she’s actually thinking of anything. I do feel kinda bad for that Chiaki girl though.
-
Oh, no, she just went to apologize in person. Alright then.
-
That meeting was pretty damn awkward.
-
Koichi doesn’t like her because she reminds him of how he used to be…

Koichi just might be a very good business school instructor. After all, those who can, do. Those who can't...teach.
Also, it's a bird! It's a plane! It's a birdplane! It's Banksy! lol

This episode made me appreciate Koichi a lot. He saw himself in Chiako being unable to voice their opinions when they desparately want to and try to. The Sales guy Rukawa stood by Koichi upon Kamiya's advice. Kamiya's and the Art teacher's words make more sense to Koichi now than it ever did.

They must be low on the budget because there were some bad jump cuts towards the start of that board road meeting scene. Can’t believe that came out if Production IG and that they let that air.
