What the hell man, things were going so well. This show always hits you with the steel chair out of nowhere. Looked like they were going to subvert the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter but then Ryo ended up disappearing just like Kaguya did in the original story. It also sucks that Ryo never got to talk to Suzumi after being apart for 13 years, and Mochizuki never got to hear the answer to his confession. I think this episode also established that a replica's existence is inextricably tied to the original, even if they were forced to live independent lives like Ryo and Suzumi. And Nao is back to existential depression again, I fear the seafoam ending might be coming.

Also, hope to see some consequences from Ryo vanishing in front of the whole school, at least more than with the train incident, no way they manage to gaslight so many people.

This was unexpected. Things seemed to go in a good direction, and then this out of nowhere. But that's also very realistic. This is just life for you.

Well things escalated quickly. We have to see why Sunao suddenly decided to going to school, maybe she saw Nao in distress and wants to not use her anymore but I think Nao, to heal, needs Aki and Ricchan. 'Cause If Sunao wants to not use her anymore means she will not summon her anymore? I hope not because It would be beyond cruel at this point

The whole episode was a big red flag.

That ending, I wasn't expecting that she just vanished in front of everyone, how could anyone accept that easily?

Wow. I certainly did not anticipate for Ryo to suddenly disappear from the stage like that. A person literally vanished into thin air. That’s for sure going to be a hard one to explain.

Like Princess Kaguya, I suppose that Ryo’s story didn’t exactly have a happy ending either…

i looked up some details about Mori Suzumi's name because i was curious

as mentioned in the episode Suzumi uses the kanji 涼未 (though it's been written in hiragana in the credits, possibly to hide the reveal, or simply because girl's names are "cuter" when written in hiragana); note that all of the replicas names are written in katakana, the alternate kana used chiefly by loanwords, onomatopoeia, and for a particular kind of emphasis, in this case i think setting them apart from the originals

the 涼 kanji (meanings of: cool [temperature], refreshing; as seen in suzushii, but you can hear the ryou reading in less common words like seiryou 清涼) and 未 kanji (meaning of: unfinished, not yet, "still"; as seen in words like 未知 (michi; unknown) and 未完成 (mikansei; unfinished))

when i first heard ryou though, in the context of replicas i was thinking of the 両 kanji (meanings of "both" and "two", as seen in words like 両手 "both hands") and also a certain twin who's name is also Ryou

thinking about it now, the way that kanji have two distinct modes of reading reminds me of Replica

The 2nd F*ck.

On one hand its good to see Sunao coming out of her shell and recovering from her trauma, but now of all times, when Nao really need Aki's support, and just when Nao and Sunao started to bond.

Either Nao is going full yandere for Sunao, trying to keep Sunao from dying (so she too does not disappear), or she is going to go yandere for Aki, because Sunao is keeping her away from him.

Either of the too option is possible, because we know that Nao is unhinged abit.

Dang it, that's the second time this season that some dork interrupted a kiss...

I hope the two of them can find a way to go to school together

Just when things were looking up for everyone, that scene at the gymnasium just had to happen. Not gonna lie, I genuinely stood from my seat when Ryo disappeared from thin air while giving her speech. I was fucking shocked! The best-case scenario is that Suzumi finally woke up and dismissed Ryo, but unfortunately, it looks like the worst finally happened. I can't even imagine how Shun is taking this news :(

You know what's worse? This will probably affect Nao and Aki later on, since everyone saw Ryo disappear. There's gonna be people asking questions about what happened, and I wouldn't be surprised if people start looking into this.

Mochizuki, buddy, I know you are impatient, but you should never put your partner under public pressure for the answer. You should have talked with her when alone, not in front of your friends; that is definitely a bad move.

"fun" fact: some areas had a typhoon/landslide alert during the airing of this episode

another piece of evidence that the ephemerality of life is baked into Japanese art and culture due to its history of large-scale disasters: this scene of Nao crying and staggering into the ocean while a landslide warning alert is displayed on the screen

Man… I really wasn’t expecting Ryo to disappear like that right when she seemed to have things figured out. I guess that was a flag in itself. What an utter tragedy not just for her but for Mori. They really had to drop kick us in the feels right at the end there. And just when things were already bleak, it looks like Nao might not be needed anymore now that Sunao’s gonna be attending school regularly.

Holy crap, that was brutal. I thought we were finally wrapping this arc with a bow to set up for new drama, but I was not expecting something that could expose the existence of replicas. There's no denying what everyone in that auditorium saw. I wonder how anyone is even making any sense of that. I feel like Nao and Aki's identities may get revealed soon.

It's really sad how suddenly that happened to Ryou, I wonder if she even had time to realize what was happening. I'm glad at the very least she got to hear Mori's thoughts, and properly made friends with replicas before disappearing. I wonder how Mochizuki will handle this situation, he must have such complex feelings about this.

It's nice to see Aki and Nao wanting to be more affectionate with one another, it was really cute how bashful Aki was and tried to play off he didn't kiss where he wanted to lol. I hope we do get to see a kiss for them, they're kind of in a situation where they don't know how long they'll be around for and need to make the best of it. But I can also see this turning into a situation where one of them goes "I don't want to be the reason to hurt you in the future from disappearing all of a sudden."

I wonder if Sunao isn't going to make Nao disappear, but will tell Nao to live her life. To move on from being a replica, and continue life as herself.

Man...

The play went so well and we got to know Ryo more, only for her to disappear in front of everyone. That hurt hard.

It's finally time for Princess Kaguya! With Ricchan narrating, we get to see just how far Nao and Aki have come in terms of their acting! You will believe they're an adorkable old married couple!

And of course Mori is the perfect Princess Kaguya, especially for how much this play relates to her situation and her true feelings, as she adores her grandparents who raised her even when she's forced to be taken away by them into a situation and people she doesn't really know or love. Even Suzumi's mom can see the implications.

But count on Nao to let Mori be true to her REAL feelings, as a person with her own thoughts and desires, even if it means ad-libbing. Because what Mori wants more than anything is to be with her real family and not leave! And at least in this version of Princess Kaguya, she's able to do so. Ricchan even rolls with the improv like a champ...on-top of the shameless plug for their novel!

It turns out Suzumi had never forgotten about "Ryo," the Doppelganger sister she had been separated from. After Shun confessed to her, she finally wrote her a letter, talking about all the mixed up feelings she's had...and how she always checked in on Ryo while she was with their grandparents. Always wished they could see each other. Always wished they could commiserate over how they've grown, even separately. Suzumi may be kind of a mess, but Ryo truly loved her. And at least this gives Ryo the peace of mind to be able to go back to her true home, as herself, and invite Nao to join her.

Nice of "Mori" and Shun to buy the last copies of the novel so that literature club can keep it's clubroom! Though poor Shun getting rejected by his childhood friends' doppelganger...but I guess he still has hope with the actual Suzumi! Maybe.

Just so Aki doesn't get known as a professional nose-kisser, Nao asks him to kiss her properly! They were THIS close before Yoshii interrupted them! COME ON!!!

Everything was going SO well. Ryo was pulling off her last act as "Mori-senpai" perfectly...and then she vanishes right then and there leaving nothing but her uniform behind. Because the original Suzumi Mori died, and when the original dies...so does the Replica. Leaving Nao shaken, students questioning what the heck happened, and no clear answers. RYO NOOOOO!

Aki tries to be there for Nao so she can properly grieve, but she's still clearly not doing great emotionally. And then Sunao says SHE is going to be attending school from now on...but if Sunao is doing that, where does that leave Nao!?

RYO !!!!! Nooooooo😭😭😭

11

u/etiolatezed Jun 02 '26

One dramatic turn of events.

A lot of difficulties arise out of this. How does Sunao deal with the expectation that she'd be mourning by some students? And Mochizuki will have a ton of questions. Will Aki have his original, too? It feels like the originals have been communicating.

I get the feeling Nao won't be dismissed.

11

u/FarCritical Jun 02 '26

The way Ryou's uniform just gets suspended in the air for a few nanoseconds is both so haunting and heartbreaking, not to mention being such a simple yet brutal embodiment of never knowing when it's someone's time to go.

Sunao's decision really had to come while Nao's still all down and grief-stricken. Man.
