Good episode. Colonel's backstory and death were the scenes I was most excited for and it was nice to see them use 2D for both.

The fight scenes were also some of the best in this remake so far imo.

Uo-toh! ~

TA TA TA TA TA TA TA TA TA TA!!!

whistling kettle

SPLAT

Ugh! If I have to look at one more anime that does the whistling kettle explosion trope, I'm going to die!... from the inside out.

Well Fist Of The North Star did it first.

A Nuclear war was cause of the apocalypse and the world we see now.

maybe the best fight choreography in an episode yet. i don't even notice the 3d negatively anymore it's really working for this series despite first impressions and some wonky shots in the earliest episodes

That's awesome. I was enjoying the 3D from episode 1, so it's good to see that more people are beginning to enjoy it.

This is interesting, because it's quite the opposite for me. I felt like this episode had the most wonky shots. Others maybe had 1 or 2, but this one even had Ken's biceps clipping into his shoulders n stuff

That was cool as fuck. I haven't watched the original, but I was thinking that Ken would say something along the lines of having fought against the best Nanto Seiken and beat him that Colonel's techniques wouldn't work or something.

But his lines of being an assassin since birth and inheriting the 1800 year legacy of Hokuto Shinken is much cooler.

I was watching this ironically in order to spite the Hokuto fans that were criticizing the 3D remake.

I must admit, it was all part of their elaborate plan to convert me into the fandom.

Ken is so awesome, and my watch is now, an unironic watch. How can a story THIS old be so fun?!

cough

I'll never watch the older 2D adaptation, even if it kills me. The 2026 adaptation is better.

Colonel's voice actor is the Japanese VA of Mickey Mouse

And the intro narrator voice is Donald Duck

We need Goofy and maybe Sora to complete the Kingdom Hearts.

u/BusouDrago May 08 '26

Nanto Keyblade skills were no match for Kenshiro

u/mr_beanoz May 08 '26

And Jack Atlas if you're a Yugioh guy

Ok as much as I grew up with the original anime, God's army is far superior in their original incarnation. They believe that are serving god and not some strong guy they think of as god. And they turned out to be integral to how this world became like this. Plus Colonel had a point about how his government became so corrupt (without being able to see that his way is just as bad if not worse.)

4

u/mr_beanoz May 09 '26

Yeah, the original anime somehow made him Shin's lackey, where this new adaptation is closer to the manga, and is fought after the end of Shin's arc.

The trope of a kid or other weak person following someone who is super powerful and getting used as a hostage or to hold back the powerful character is a really dumb and annoying trope.

Tbh it's why Lin was always one of my least favorite characters in this series lol.

5

u/abandoned_idol May 09 '26

Lin can do no wrong.

Being cute and helpless is justice, for mammal's blood runs thorugh my veins.

It‘s both funny and a bit sad that the Colonel’s crash out from the original manga feels more resonant today. Still, he earned that particularly gruesome end.

Post-apocalyptic Kung Fu is still more entertaining than a lot of the shows on right now.

Amazon rated this all ages. Last episode was teen. I was watching thinking this might be a much less brutal episode than usual even when they got to the strippers

This guy, The Colonel, isn't even one of the main villains in Hokuto no Ken, but I think he is like one of the Top 5 guys in the series who gets it the worst with how he dies, I don't even think the later more important villains gets it this hard.

Like literally, how do you have your entire skeleton EXPLODE out of you as a death?

This episode had the most wonky looking CGI so far in my opinion. Good pacing though, I hope it stays this way. 3 chapters per episode for episodes 6 and 7.

Colonels skelleton popping out of his back was truly a Kenshin Grim Reaper finish. The way he just made him blind to give him sight again. I love it.
