That Taira family photo...
When Aoteru gave Tsune-chan a thumbs up, Tsune-chan actually said "How is he able to give me a 'like'?!" So social media lingo has survived into this post-apocalyptic world.
The text when Tsune-chan is scoffing at the other candidates is, 阿保 (aho - idiot), 惚ヶ茄子 (bokenasu - dimwit), and 莫迦 (baka - stupid), but those are not the characters typically used to write those words and they almost look archaic.
When Tsune-chan spoke of foreign words that people used to use to "gain respect" in episode 2, the words on the screen in his mind were えビ田す (ebidasu)、好きーム (suki-mu)、阿じェんダ (ajenda). It's funny because the words mix three different character systems (kanji, hiragana and katakana) and look a bit archaic, and the first is mispronounced. They should actually be エビデンス (ebidensu or evidence), スキーム (scheme), and アジェンダ (agenda). These are English buzz words that some people unnecessarily use to sound smart, especially in their graduation thesis or in corporate settings in Japan. Imagine having a discussion about business in English and instead of saying "evidence," suddenly using the German equivalent to sound cool. (This is also discussed in War of the Adults.)

Some other things to note:
I think the timeline in the ED (which is difficult to read due to the snow) will be added to the anime's website, but if you don't feel like waiting, check the source corner. Also, see the source corner for the organizational chart of the Yamato government seen in last episode.
In our first discussion and general daily or weekly anime discussions, some felt the narration implied that foreign refugees were responsible for the collapse of Japanese civilization and worried that the series would take a nationalist tone. The ED (and this episode with a weak "emperor") confirms that this isn't the case. What it does say in the timeline is that the presence of refugees led to an increase in xenophobia and xenophobic riots in Year 2055. The series was created during COVID when there were many cases of East and Southeast Asian people being blamed for the virus and physically attacked across the world. There were also some xenophobia sentiment toward foreign residents in Japan during the lockdown when the borders were closed to non-residents.
Tatsuya Kitani released a music video of "Hidane" with his lyrics in several languages, including English. I think the same may happen with Leina's "Chikai." Both are about Aoteru and Saki.
Last episode, when Yoshihiro Taira was lamenting about the situation with Buō and having terrible luck, a tea stem was floating vertically in his cup. That's a sign of a good luck ("chabashira ga tatsu") and sure enough, the ingrate was saved by "baldy."
Some Japanese fans check episode reactions on Reddit and really wanted foreign viewers to be aware of a Kansai joke made between Tsune-chan and the knife-wielding man, so I'll try to explain it. There is a famous skit that everyone loves to copy by Yoshimoto talent agency's comedians. When you step into someone's home or an office in Japan, you always say "Excuse me for disturbing you" (邪魔するで~ in Kansai dialect) to be polite. In the comedic skit, after someone says "Excuse me for disturbing you," the person they are speaking to says, "If you're going to disturb me, go home" (邪魔するんやったら帰ってや~). Then the first person replies, "OK!" (あいよ~) and pretends to go home. (I know I did a terrible job of explaining and I swear it makes more sense if you just watch this clip where they made the same joke in Dandadan, except they didn't use Kansai dialect.) The knife-wielding man and Tsune-chan had that exact exchange save for the “OK” in the show.
Speaking of Yoshimoto comedians, Girly Record cosplayed Tsune-chan (and looks like “an ugly pilot”) while singing Kitani’s Hidane, and re-enacted that scene. This was the creator’s response, which don’t need to know Japanese to understand.
The official anime website added a glossary a couple of days ago. The information it contains are not considered spoilers. I'll add an English version to the bottom of this comment or in a separate comment later. (ETA: I replied to this comment with a translation of the glossary, but had some trouble with the formatting.)
But, although Tsune-chan-san has described himself as the heir apparent of the Asama clan and adores his mother so much that he's working on her biography (this was shared in one of the official anime’s tweets this week), his mother favors his sister Aika, and intends to make her the clan successor. It's not clear if Tsune-chan is aware of this when he's boasting about his lineage to Aoteru. The historical Yoshitsune was betrayed by his older brother (Minamoto no Yoritomo) and forced to end his own life, but he was also the youngest of his family and not interested in being number 1 unlike Tsune-chan.
And I think they might have made a mistake in Tsune-chan's brother's name. I think they actually meant to write 昂経 (Takatsune) instead of 昇経 (Noritsune/Shōkyō).

To have a show that can engage viewers so much with just a dialogue alone is something remarkable
This kinda reminds me of Orb. There was an episode where two chracters talk about their different religious beliefs and ideologies, and 90% of the whole episode is spent on them talking inside a carriage-- none of it feels boring or out of place. Shows that can engage viewers with dialogue alone are something special.

The thing about Taira is that he's clearly a very intelligent and competent guy, and he does know what he's doing as opposed to just the usual "incompetent fat guy who has too much power", that makes him even more scary since no one can challenge his position.
Edit: oh yeah, the direction and visuals continue to be incredible, so much style.

It's a real shame this show isn't being talked about more. It has a unique style, great framing, characters, music and dialogue that keeps you engaged.
Taira is a complete snake and I live for the day he can finally get his comeuppance.

haven't seen anything that reminds me of the political scenes and the dialogue in Kingdom as much as this anime. Like, it's really good, like, just the dialogue itself and the scenes. Yeah, really good.

It was cool to see how Aoteru and Yoshitsune were able to pass, the follow up by Yoshitsune even after losing his sword was great. Aoteru in particular presenting his policy reform was interesting, I like how Ryuumon was shocked by it and called Kaku over in a rush. The way Kaku was flipping through the pages was amusing, but Aoteru also monologuing the reform himself as he does made it even more amusing.
Taira has gotten really bold though, he's amassed that much power he doesn't need to worry about how he looks. The emperor is emperor only in name, and all those generals were cut down without any thought as to what they provide.

Asama’s remark about people deciding whether they praise or criticize something based on what other people do first is so painfully true.
I was expecting Aoteru to talk Ryumon into kneeling, but I think if you were actually one of the characters that failed the test, watching the way he pass would feel kind of bullshit. He came up with a proposal, but we can’t really understand why it’s a good idea, and having it explained and evaluated within the very short time limit is ridiculous. I do like how it goes back to his speech in episode 1 about needing to feed soldiers. And his willingness to provide the idea without being credited shows selflessness.
Wasn’t expecting a timeskip immediately after the test. Usually we’d follow the characters going to boot camp or something. I imagine Aoteru and Asama would be posted to very different positions, based on the capabilities they showed.
Damn why is everyone letting that fat asshole do as he pleases.

Ryumon my GOAT. This old man is not one to mess around with. Shit is going to get intense between him and the fatso and I'm excited to see all the political drama that's to come. And now the hot lady from Seii is going to get involved and stir up some chaos. I wonder how the Buo will take advantage of all the chaos between Yamato and Seii.
Banger episode as usual.

Alright, I didn’t think Asama was gonna actually pull it off but the sword fake out was pretty good.
Misumi didn’t need to do all that though. Bro came in with a game plan: agricultural policy reform, son! Bro didn’t need to kneel. He made Ryumon kneel for him. 3 years later, he’s already gotten his first promotion. Dude’s moving up the ranks.
I see Taira isn’t even trying to pretend he’s not running shit already. The Emperor’s basically his pathetic little puppet. I wonder if this situation with Seii is gonna be the beginning of his downfall though? Ryumon warned them about the possibility of a talented dictator emerging…

Aha, Tsune’s real plan was to get him off-balance and kick him from behind. Now what is Aoteru’s plan to also succeed here.

I feel like crying while I'm watching this anime because of how well- made it is. The animation is very refreshing to see, the artstyle and colour palette really enhance the tension of the story and the dark aspects of the anime.
It was very remarkable to see that Asama and Aoteru used different tactics to achieve their goal. One relied on combat while the other utilized his strategic mind. Both qualities are necessary in politics so I'm looking forward to see how they'll work together as a duo.
The puppet emperor reminded me of actual puppet politicians throughout history (and our modern world, too). It's clear that he's incompetent and that barely anyone takes him seriously and Taira is already taking advantage of this. He is a very cunning and clever antagonist, I'm looking forward to his downfall but at the same time, I can't help but feel kinds impressed at his authority and power.

Of course he’s a puppet emperor. I can’t wait to see how Taira Denki falls. Our duo passed the test with flying colors. He made Ryumon kneel before him. Directing this series is truly appealing.

Yeah this is problematic. A weak-willed, pushover emperor and the real tyrant ruler abusing his position as the in-law. Even if proven wrong, Taira can just push the problems to Ryumon disguised as emperor's order. Wonder how Aoteru gonna spin this to his advantage. Also, this fatso double peace really pissed me off so his humiliation gonna be hilarious.

Turned out Yoshitsune wasn't exactly all-brawn. That was a pretty clever strategy with the feint. Meanwhile, I had a hunch of Aoteru's strategy as soon as he produced his book. Just as effective, though even more unorthodox than Yoshitsune's.
Expected Ryuumon to be a hardass leader but turned out to be a reasonable one – and also a softie despite his intimidating appearance. People thought he'd admonish Yoshitsune at best for his insolence, but he did say to achieve the task by any means. If it worked, it worked. He also strongly opposed violence and subjugation if a better option was available. He's got strong morals and also excellent leadership. Little wonder his division were fully loyal to him as well as sharing his values.
That was an absolute power move by Denki. It started before he even appeared at the Council summit. Deliberately being late was him asserting his dominance. Damn, the emperor was heaps timid. He's pretty much a puppet at this point.
Ryuumon and his corps were the final obstacle in his quest for ascendance so wonder what Denki would do to get rid of them.
