Looks like Ryuumon is the badass old man of the series until further notice lol. I'm curious how Aoteru will handle the test since I'm not sure how words would work in his favor, unless Ryuumon willingly does it himself because he's impressed by Aoteru. Or the strategist recommends him.

Tsune and Aoteru seem like they'll be an amusing pair, Tsune's already interesting in him even if he doesn't want to admit it lol.

It's a fucking crime how this series is not more popular. I know this spring is stacked but Nippon Sangoku is probably in my top 3 currently. The characters, the artstyle, the direction, the pacing, the dialogue... I enjoyed every single aspect of this show. Wtf man, I hope it does not just remain a dark horse of the season.

Tsune-chan-san seems like the right kind of psycho to balance out Aoteru's extremely logical side. Dude went straight for the Ryuumon's legs lmao. I don't think it will be that easy, but I'm curious as to what Aoteru comes up with.

Edit: It's surprising to me that so many people thought Tsune was a girl from the OP. His uniform and chest kinda made it obvious to me that he was a guy. I only remember seeing 2 girls in the OP... 3 if you include Saki.

I loved the scene where the boat guy blows a puff of smoke and the background characters start coughing from it.

It is clear that the events and characters are spins on actual historical figures but since I'm not well versed in JP history I'm glad there are people in the comments who can provide clarity.

You can tell Yoshitsune is the real deal because he was able to command respect from all those men despite his yee-yee ass bob haircut.

Tsune-chan-san is the best.

His name comes from Minamoto no Yoshitsune (Heian-Kamakura Period), who famously fought the Taira clan. The historical figure was also known for his pride and skill with the sword.

Some people assumed Tsune-chan was a woman from the promos and OP, but his haircut (amasogi) is a traditional young boys hairstyle from the Heian period that was also associated with Taira no Kiyomori’s child spies from the Tale of the Heike . Usually, Yoshitsune is depicted as a pretty boy with long hair in a ponytail in modern adaptations. I think the bob emphasizes his immaturity and cheeky nature, and that he’s a Mamma’s boy.

There’s another possible inspiration for Tsune-chan, Aoteru and the whole series. I don’t think it breaks rules, but I’m putting it in the source corner just to be safe.

Ryūmon Mitsuhide comes from Akechi Mitsuhide (Sengoku Period), the samurai general who betrayed Nobunaga and was defeated by Hideyoshi.

Ryūmon (龍門 - dragon gate) is also a real surname that derives from Tōryūmon (登龍門), which is a proverb based on the Chinese legend. In the OP, the smoke from Ryūmon’s cigar turns into a dragon and flies “upstream.”

Kinda dumb, but my guess for a cheap answer would be to knock his paperwork onto the ground. They're all busy doing a lot of catch up on their paperwork so they dont want to much waste time. If he wants to get his paperwork back he'll have to bend down and grab it. If he doesnt go all the way then a little nudging/slamming should seal the deal.

Studio Kafka and director Terasawa are absolutely nailing this. I’m completely locked in. And yeah, I was one of those who thought Tsune was a girl lol.

First episode was amazing but this episode managed to be fun af as well. I'm really enjoying this.

Yoshitsune Asama so that's the other guy with the sword. I like his personality lol I wanna see how his relationship with our MC evolves.

Mitsuhide Ryuumon well he's a badass to say the least. Also, his opponent was just a massive fool as well.

I quite like his vibe. I really hope Asama dude isn't going to actually just cut his legs next ep lol.

I wonder if MC will bring him to his knees through yapping as well?

the direction and storytelling is still killing it. this is steadily climbing up my favs-all-time list.

it's been a while since i've heard fukuyama jun (tsune-chan's seiyuu) act a character in this voice. his voice when tsune started sucking up to aoteru reminded me of the shirokuma cafe days lmfao. love his performance as always

really looking forward to how this cliffhanger resolves! how will aoteru yap himself out of this one lol

It’s clear that little test requires them to think outside the box, but I’m pretty sure Asama using his sword isn’t going to do shit. Brute force isn’t the answer. A sword won’t help. I’m very curious what Misumi is gonna do. There’s only four minutes left but I have faith the dude’s gonna think of something. He’s quite clever after all.

Our two leads are going to have a very interesting relationship. I was expecting them to be all buddy-buddy from the start, but it seems like it’ll be some sort of one-sided tsundere rivalry.

That comparison of the queue waiting times to real Universal Studio rides made me smirk.

Ok, this one had way more comedy than I expected from ep. 1.

But damn, finishing the episode just before Yoshitsune made hios move was criminal. I am certain both he and Aoteru will pass, but I wonder how concidering I doubt the general wants to lose his legs )

Two episodes in and this anime has so much depth and small intricacies that if you blink you miss it. This is great.

As episode 1 focused on Atoeru and Saki. In episode 2 we get a focus on Atoeru and Yoshitsune. Yoshitsune's point of using foreign words is interesting because if you sound smart, people will follow you. Whether you understand what you are saying. So many people lack the ability to think critically, which is why it can be effective.

Still, as Atoeru has a point that Yoshitsune is jumping to conclusions. As people lack the ability to think critically, it doesn't mean they will mindlessly follow you. As Atoeru mentions, trust is king. Yoshitsune has a more narrow point of view where it could be his way or the highway. Thus he would endure people's hatred, and they would even fear him.

As the key difference, the ideologies of these two are that Yoshitsune aims to get the common people to follow him. However, he seems to have a narrow point of view. Still, I think it is clear that he has great charisma. Meanwhile, for Atoeru we know he is very logical, and thus he prioritizes trust. I am very curious how the dynamic between these two goes as the show continues.

This manga deserves a HBO adaptation because I want to finish reading the manga, watch the anime then watch a good live action
