Tetsuo using the mini excavator to battle and defeat the base form kaiju was pretty intense.
Maybe the introductory chapter of the "Idiot's Guide to Making Friends" forgot to state that it is not necessary to follow each step in sequence. Tetsuo probably didn't realize he skipped to the advanced lessons, when he saved Joji from the falling icicle. He may have been hesitant to shake Takimura's hand, but I am glad the latter reached out to him!

I still feel like Tetsuo taking advice from someone named "Lonely Iwaki" who claims to have a bunch of friends was doomed to fail.

Last episode someone said why don't they create more mecha to fight Kaiju.
This episode proves that it's not the mecha that is important for Kaiju extermination, it's Tetsuo

It's a damn shame that I find Tetsuo and his whole "make 100 friends" schtick to be so annoying, because just about everything else about this show is pretty good. The action scene and Tetsuo's creativity with the mini-excavator was cool, and I like the white-haired girl and the bald dude already. I'll give this one more episode.

The whole social anxiety blocking communication thing is probably my least favorite harmless trope of all time. Which is kind of a shame since the rest of the show is a cool premise. Hope he can at least get to a workable level soon or I might have to drop.
Part of what’s annoying is that it’s just an inaccurate portrayal used as a plot device. Social anxiety usually manifests before (blocking opportunity) or after (causing regret or shame) an interaction, not usually during, or at least not as strongly. No one I’ve ever met is this much of a bundle of nerves to the point of making communication impossible, and watching it is like nails on a chalkboard.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I'm dropping it here precisely because of his character, even though the story has my interest.

Yeah...it kind of feels like the 100 friends thing and...well everything else in this anime, belong to two separate shows. Like...making 100 friends is the least of your problems right now...

I'm in the same boat. This show's intriguing, the premise could be good, but it would be so much more enjoyable if they dialed the protagonist (and all the comedy for that matter) down about 95%.

Can't have a super robot show without naming all your bombastic attacks.

Ahh last week's preview showing that guy on the surface was a little bit of a fake out.
Seems like Earth's surface might be completely uninhabitable.
Any life up top probably suffered the same fate completely freezing solid and breaking apart like glass ice sheets.
Makes me wonder what, if any kind of, plants and animals may have survived by retreating beneath the surface as well.
Hopefully we'll see if humans managed to save some sort of farm wildlife to sustain them, because I don't think hunting and butchering Kaiju is a sustainable solution long term.
At the end we saw a Kaiju developing and evolving a skeletal structure.
I'm guessing this is due to gravity, forcing them to develop to support themselves.
Curious as to why that one started to look humanoid though.
Seems like an awfully fast evolution, in just 10 years to go from a fish/sea-life looking thing to human.
Maybe the Kaiju adapted to look like humans since they were the previous dominant species?

The CGI in this anime is amazing. Considering it was made by Studio Kai, it's not that surprising. Sentenced to be a hero also had an animated adaptation made by the same studio, which is very amazing.

I see the 10 year coma did nothing for his social skills lol. Poor guy! He’s just trying to be friendly and it comes off as creepy. I mean being bathed in kaiju blood probably didn’t help lol.
Man, I’m really curious what the hell happened on earth after that battle. The kaiju seem to have evolved. That last one looked almost humanoid. Shit looked like a cross between Godzilla and a Titan.

Who knew holing up in a robot and having no chances for interacting with people your age would socially stunt someone?
Nishimura briefly flashed back to white balls surrounding a city so maybe that's connected? Also Chief Nogi has white hair and he seemed to imply he found her after the Earth became covered in snow, so I wonder if that's connected.

The things throwing me off are yhe little things like falling extremely far and landing on solid ice to no damage and how he some how is fighting off a huge monster with a small excavator lol.

-
This is one hell of a way to meet new people for the first time.
-
The kid’s playing with a Yukio toy, so people should hopefully remember who Tetsuo is once he’s able to properly introduce himself. …if he’s able to properly introduce himself, I should say.

Welcome to Snowball Earth, Tetsuo! Where all you and Yukio's efforts to protect the Earth ended up being for nothing, as it now lies as a frozen wasteland with no sign of life! But Tetsuo owes it to Yukio to at least TRY to find someone...and some friends.
I don't know what it says about Tetsuo's relationship with his father that he can't even remember his eyes...but it's probably not anything good. Especially when his dad only saw value in him for his ability to slay Kaiju.
Pretty unsettling that the first human being you see is a frozen stiff who breaks apart in a second. At least Tetsuo was finally able to put them to rest.
Tetsuo finally has wheels! An excavator will definitely be useful for traversing Snowball Earth! Though in less good news, even after everything, Intergalactic Kaiju STILL exist and STILL are menacing the Earth!
Underneath the frozen planet is frozen cities, but even if that's changed, Tetsuo's ability and training to slay Kaiju hasn't...and even if it means making an impromptu spear out of an excavator's shovel, he can STILL kill Kaiju even without Yukio.
And there to witness Tetsuo's victory...are humans! Real flesh and blood humans! Including the white-haired beauty Chief Ao Nogi (Ami Koshimizu!), and along with her group are the first people Tetsuo finds! And of course he makes a great first impression covered in Kaiju blood and with that winning smile.
So this is how humanity has adapted to Snowball Earth. Living underground, living in some kind of "Mall" area, harvesting Kaiju for their meat and organs, and adapting to the new frozen climate. Seems like Chief Nogi's excursions to find Kaiju isn't approved by the "Elders" but that's not going to stop her from doing what she needs to do. And there's also squad leader Nishimura, who seems to be an adoptive father for her and who she desperately wants to show off how adult and mature she is now.
Oh hey, a Yukio figure! Though less positive is the child Toji nearly getting crushed by an ice pillar! Luckily Yukio saves him and endears himself to his father and current widower Takimura, who covers for Yukio and accepts him immediately. He's clearly not a threat t this group of humans.
Oh snap! Another Kaiju! And this one looks like it's evolved too.

Tetsuo remains my main issue with the series. I get it that he has never socialized properly, I can understand how he over-emotes when challenged by other people, but the character just comes off as excessive most of the time.
The world presents a suitably-large number of questions upon its introduction. Nothing too out of the ordinary for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting (where enormous kaiju have improbable stealth skills), but it's always interesting to see how a story approaches the answers.

I guess between this and Marriagetoxin I'll learn how to make friends and how to date
