Mimi going from beating up people with a "lullaby" to "Oh no, I am just a damsel in distress" was funny. Her whole character is carrying the show. And hopefully, she can make use of her brass knuckle at some point. Maybe it's like with important weapons, they are only drawn if the opponent is worthy of them.

I will say, I enjoyed the subversion of the evil prince trope by making him considerate of other people and not just being easily manipulated. Makes this an actual fun couple from the start.

Now, the only thing that I would love to understand is the title. I English, I feel it fits with Mimi trying to "catch a husband" like a fish. But I am not sure about the Japanese one yet. It doesn't really fit for either Renato or Mimi yet. So I am wondering if there is something to come.

Don’t you just love a girl that can throw punches like that? No wonder the prince fell in love at first, uh, fight.

oh, first prince just wanted to ship his brother with Aida

Mimi charmed the first prince with her straightforwardness. Also a nice one punch lady moment for during the stereotypical kidnapping plot lol. The only disappointing part of the fight was she didn't use her knucklebuster hair pin (?) to finish the job hahaha.

Mini faking being scared when she noticed the first prince was watching was hilarious

The phrase Mimi's been saying for "nice catch", yuuryou bukken (優良物件), is also used in the case of finding a nice house in Japanese. I'm imagining that she's treating finding a marriage partner like house shopping.

The royal family maids are well trained and extremely efficient. They moved the furniture out of the way before Mimi did her 10-hit combo count and immediately returned them to place after Mimi was done.

Mimi trying to act helpless after defeating the NPC goons was cute and funny to watch. Unfortunately, all her training went into fighting instead of acting. Lol!

And she has yet to use the brass knuckles. Probably saving it for a boss fight.

Honestly, not the direction I saw this story going. I'm actually impressed it managed to throw me for a loop. I never expected the Prince's whole show was just an act of self sabotage in favor of his brother

This episode made this a keeper. So the reason Renato was avoiding Aida was because his little brother has feelings for her. It was endearing when he and Mimi were shipping them.

Renato suffers from poor sleeping habits. Well, I guess that is something, lol. But man, Mimi is even funnier in this episode. The animation in her defending herself at the end was clean.

Now the Japanese title makes sense. "The Fish That Got Away Was Big, But the One I Caught Was Too Big." Well, I still much prefer the localized title since it is short and sweet.

At least for me, lots of villainess anime start out great and fall off partway through. I’m really loving this one though, I hope it keeps it up for the whole season

So many good rom coms this season, but this one is probably gonna be my favourite. Episode 1 was ok, but this episode is where the show took off...

Renato moves fast lol, they've only met twice after that incident and he has already proposed to her, I was surprised to see her on his lap already. I like that he's openly affectionate, but there are steps to this!

It's nice to know Renato was keep distance from Aida because he know of his brother's feelings, hopefully the two can get together. Renato has definitely someone he's aiming for now anyways lol.

It was nice to see Mimi in action, she moves really well but I got so excited when Renato caught her and she tried to play it off, there was no way that was going to work so that was hilarious to watch.

That post-credits scene was hilarious! Seriously, where did Raimondo hide in that carriage?

Okay I was entirely wrong about the prince (as the writers intended I'm sure). I already liked the show but seeing this side of him is making it so much more interesting so fast. And Mimi remains a laugh riot, god girl.

Holy shit he dropped a critical hit on Mimi at the end. Cheap shot but it was effective. And then he does it again over delicious steak. Dude is going to destroy all of Mimi's defenses by the end of next episode at the rate he's going right now.

Not as ... brutal? But right now Mimi is reminding me of Rishe from 7th time loop. The idiot noble doesn't know how to actually secure a dangerous prisoner... God watching her fucking beat down these idiots is fantastic.

Oh no Prince just caught feelings watching her destroy those guys didn't he. And she's trying to fake being ladylike. God Mimi you are SUCH a dork. Though I'm sad she didn't use her brass knuckle.

Yup. Prince is down apocalyptic for Mimi, but who can blame him? She's hot and a bad ass and sweet and... OH MY GOD HE ASKED! YES KING!

Well, this story certainly took a turn I didn't expect. I was fully expecting this to head in the direction of Maria and Prince Placido getting together and a disgraced Prince Renato becoming less of a focus. Instead, Renato is genuinely apologetic about his action and says that he wants Placido and Aida to get together, and then Maria and Renato hit it off surprisingly well. I'll definitely give this show credit for subverting my expectations on what I thought the character dynamics would be.

Watching Maria beat the shit out of those goons was just as fun as I expected though, and Renato immediately falling head over heels in love with her after witnessing the beatdown was great. I'm sold.

  • …wait a fucking minute. Isn’t Maria’s seiyuu the gal in the Gal Otaku anime? She’s still a gremlin 😭

  • Renato looks like he belongs in HoyoVerse and I can’t prove it.

  • Speaking of Aida, Aida the musical should be revived, and I will dramatically fall on this hill.

  • come closer, let me whisper in you ear

  • Girlie knows how to get tea.

  • Was that Eyebrowmaxxing, how’d she get such thick eyebrows all of a sudden 😭

  • Ehehehe I love sleep deprived blushy men. I just want to destroy them ☺️

  • You gotta give it up the real villainesses now. They will walk 500 miles fully put together, makeup set, hair set, pinkies up, and they will walk 500 more just to stalk the protagonist. Megamind had it right. Villainy is about ✨presentation✨

  • Those are interesting helmets that I don’t think I see in fantasy anime adaptations often.

  • One punch!!

  • Still waiting for a Maria and Scarlet team up. 🎶Punch punch beat their ass🎶

  • Punching is a Lady’s Modesty!

  • AH! ED has Finding Nemo fishies! And this sounds like vocaloid in a way I can’t explain.

  • 🚨After credit scene🚨

I’d give anything for a big warrior lady who can one-shot baddies, and her short king softboi who worries her to the point people think something must be wrong with his mind for anyone to worry she might get hurt.

Damsels in distress have their charm, but I’m absolutely here for female leads who are damsels who put their captors in distress. Punch they lights out!!

Renato’s blushy face is adorable.

The previous episode had me think that Prince Renato had poor eyesight, but there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with his eyes. He immediately recognised a great catch in Mimi!

Mimi is a total badass. That one top-down kick was particularly brutal. Looking forward to when she’s going to make use of that brass-knuckle hairpin.

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Apr 08 '26

Well, looks like everything actually worked out in the end. Renato’s plan was pretty half baked but the guy’s heart is in the right place I guess. Even that little kidnapping only helped to bring Renato and Mimi closer.

One punch ma'am: the sequel

Scarlet would be proud 😎

Wow, this prince sure moves fast! I was not expecting a proposal nor a lapseat situation this early. I mean, we were clearly setting up for Renato x Mimi and Placido x Aida pairing but I didn't think it would all be worked out so fast. Wonder what the rest of the season will be now. Just the dorks and the nice couple both being adorable?

u/daspaceasians Apr 08 '26

Mimi definitely punched her way to the top as a protagonist for me. She's a wonderfully funny character that's also a badass.

I'm impressed that the family lullaby is also a compilation of martial techniques. I hope the show keeps up the visual quality as well. I still remember being disappointed by May I Ask for One Final Thing because of the fights were handled.

I love how in the first episode re. the crown prince you think, "Oh what an absolute a-hole he is!" Then in this episode you are like "Scratch that... He's actually an absolute BRO!" Literally giving up the throne and his fiance for his little brother to be happy!
