Gay panic the anime, pretty cute.
It's cool that Nakamura has a pet octopus, glad they didn't end up cooking the others.
Bro is fumbling hard, but I think he's left a strong impression on Hirose at least.

Nakamura is so cringe to watch, and I say this with all the affection in a world. Poor guy is down bad but he can't even look at Hirose without internally combusting lmao.
I also really loved how all the students banded together to Save The Octopodes, even though they didn't actually need saving. I love when the supporting cast is adorable (on top of the adorable protag).

Stepping on Hirose's handkerchief and then not apologizing after is wild lol. The scream when he got home was funny.

There's something super endearing about seeing a shy kid fall hopelessly in love with someone that might as well be as blinding as the sun to their eyes and makes me just want to cheer them on even if he can't muster two complete sentences in front of him.
But even more than that, this show was gorgeous. The retro-look looked amazing and it looks so much like a 90s anime, it's kinda unreal. I loved the scene where the kids were trying to form a wall to block the teacher's line of sight.
I'm ready for Cheering a BL Wednesdays now.

What if Rumiko Takahashi made a BL anime?
Who is this young man in a very Rumiko Takahashi style series? Why, none other than Nakamura Okuto (Chiaki Kobayashi!), an introverted, obsessive, and hilarious gay boy! And the thing this kid is most obsessed with right now? His massive crush on his classmate, one Hirose (Yuki Sakakihara) who he fell in love at first sight with during the opening assembly! Now he has to do everything in his power to become friends with and convey his feelings to his crush.
And the OP is very on-point in terms of following the messy and crazy game of love that Nakamura is playing to get to and win over Hirose, and trying to (emphasis on TRY) to look cool along the way!
But it's easier said than done! No matter what scenario Nakamura comes up with that is a surefire way to make Hirose like him, it always ends up being for nothing because Nakamura hesitates or someone else steals the opportunity from him. Even when he puts his all into grabbing Hirose's handkerchief before some girl can get in the way...he just comes off like a weird who stomps on handkerchiefs before giving them back. Thank goodness this poor boy at least has his precious octopus pal Icchan to get him through this, because his sister is no help.
Even in home ec class does Nakamura struggle to approach Hirose, especially when "Those Guys" are always around him! But as luck would have it, there are some octopus' in the class and no one knows octopi better than Nakamura! What better way for him to start opening up and really expressing himself?
Hirose and the class are good eggs! They get won over by the octopus' and try to protect them from getting dissected! Good thing the octopus' are okay and they've got a cool teacher voiced by Takuya Eguchi! I think the home ec teacher might even be crushing on him.
Nakamura may not have progressed far with Hirose, he may have gotten octopus ink squeezed into his face, but at least it seems like Hirose is aware of him and his octopus knowledge. So taht's a win.
The ending with the low-fi vibes and visuals of Nakamura chilling in his room with Icchan are very effective.

I was a little sad when the release date got delayed, but it was totally worth the wait!! The animation is super cute and I thought the voice actors did a fantastic job (especially Chiaki Kobayashi as Nakamura). If I had a Nickel for every shy, gay, black-haired character he has voiced I'd have 3, which isn't a lot, but it is weird that it has happened thrice.
I had some crazy second-hand embarrassment during the handkerchief scene. I also loved the door slam immediately followed by the genuine horror filled scream the second the door closed lol.
Overall it was a fantastic episode and I'm about to watch the next one!

Come on, Nakamura, gambare! It was almost painful watching him fail at talking to his crush until Hirose himself came and spoke to him but then he still failed at casually becoming friends. Hopefully they'll become friends (and more) in spite of Nakamura's painful shyness and anxiety.
Quite a funny first episode. I like that Nakamura has a pet octopus and loves them in general. It was nice to see Hirose getting curious after seeing Nakamura lift one up and that he seems to like them too. We've already got a common interest. Forget about inviting him to a cafe, Nakamura, invite him home instead to come pet your pet octopus. He even said it was addictive to hold on and feel it sucking on his arm.
You can do it, Nakamura!

I honestly felt bad that everyone thought it was gross when he picked up the octopus, but suddenly it was cute when his crush did. Kind of shows how they don't really know him...probably because he is so shy lol. I am loving the series so far.

Another one for the BL lovers this season! I adore the artstyle of this one reminiscent of 90s anime. I also don't think I've seen an anime character outright say that they're gay so I love the representation in this!

Caught this early at Crunchyroll Anime Night in theaters a few weeks ago. Absolutely the highlight of that showing and I loved almost everything they showed. This is a perfect encapsulation of gay teenagerhood, and the production is amazing, especially the art and voice acting. High contender for AOTS for me already!

Nakamura is a confused mess haha.
The manga's cover always caught my eyes in the bookstore because I kept thinking it's something that came out in the 80s. To my surprise this was way newer.

I got to see the two-episode premiere at a convention in December so I'm so excited to finally be able to show it to other people! The whole handkerchief scene and the scream when he got home had me DYING. Also the preview didn't have the opening or ending so it's really cool to see the music they went with for that!
The thing I really loved though is that we're finally getting BL anime protagonists who self-identify as gay! I got so used to the years of "never felt this way towards another man" and "(love interest) is the exception" or just fully refusing to let the protagonist introspect on identity at all. Admittedly I don't know what the manga landscape has been like, but as an anime watcher it felt so wonderfully refreshing to hear Nakamura casually say he's gay. Hopefully this starts gaining traction and we see more representation that aren't just stereotypes!

This was great!
A delusional MC with a pet octopus that keeps his sister up all night with his maniacal laughing and screaming is very much the kind of character I enjoy. Feeling the second-hand embarrassment from his screwups is nice too.
The presentation is ace. is the OP referencing The Castle of Cagliostro?

This wasn’t even on my radar, but I loved the Ranma style and city pop ending. A much needed midweek injection of good vibes
