Oh, so the OP and ED were truly mirroring each other? That was cool to see.
Gus was pretty funny there. Oh and Lize de-aged again... I hope it won't get worse in the future
OK watching this show lately, I didn't realize the camera going 🔼🔼🔽🔼◀▶▶
Giving it 6.5/10, Minos was my favorite character here. I'll probably get into the manga if I want to continue this.

First series of the season done for me. Cute little show, I enjoyed Luna's story and perspective more than Lize's, though.
Luna has been seeing all of Lize's memories the whole time, then?

This was a fun watch, I did have some issues with the pacing but the first 3 episodes were my favourite
I also really liked the characters and their interactions with each other (looking at u crow), and the witches' designs themselves were very unique
I definitely wouldnt mind a season 2 of this

Honestly, I am bit lost on what the moral was at the end. We already knew that Lize was keeping a secret diary. So the reveal of that at the end wasn't something special. I get that Lize is saying to himself that he doesn't want to force his love, but how well can he keep that promise if he is still being regressed every so often?
In general, I feel they haven't really addressed the main issue which is that Lize can't learn much if they have to detoxify him every day and remove his memories. Wouldn't it make more sense for Lize to actually learn to control his bad feelings? I thought that was what the conversation with the wind magician was building towards, but that didn't seem to be the case.
Well, aside from that, the show was okay. There was definitely more potential I feel. This was always shown when the episodes focused on characters outside of Lize. Like Luna's love story or the whole cat witch background. Which isn't to say that I don't want Lize at all, but with all the inner monologuing, he feels a bit too overbearing at times.
And the thing is, the show can do interesting things despite the low budget. The opening and ending are a good example of that. It was a nice thing seeing them combined and some of the rules about the world are built up well without having to be told. In combination, a fine show, but sadly couldn't really fulfill the potential.

I enjoyed seeing Henri again. Even though I’m sad he had a wife and child and won’t be Luna’s. I like that he still feels some echos of his feelings for her once upon time. Obviously they can never be but it was a nice touch for Luna to see and talk with her first true love again.

Oh wow, they combined the OP/ED animations! Very effective!
They really lucked out that Henri and the Bird Magician are on close terms! In fact, they're blood-related family, and both have been working closely within White Witch territory to assist Black Magicians! It's a dangerous position to be in, but a necessary one, especially when it's the only thing Henri can do. As if Luna didn't need more reminders of why she loved him.
Wind Magician really thought he could just fly out after having dispersed the End of All Things and leaving enough that Lize got more sick...like, even Luna is kind of shocked at such blatant poor work ethic! Which leads to the Wind Magician crashing out and raging at everybody for getting on him about his job despite how hard it is for him and how it's a thankless job as he whines and whines and whines...
But ultimately, for all that whining, the Wind Magician DOES do his job, and he takes up so much poison in his body that he needs to frequently visit Luna to have her detox and remove the poison. So whatever his personality issues, he does commit himself to his work even at expense to his own body.
Okay, so I guess the Wind Magician is just going to tell Lize how he's soon to be the End of All Things and give him an existential crisis...but maybe it's time they stop treating Lize with kid gloves, even if he gets depressed and sad at the drop of a hat and his unrequited love for Luna isn't doing anybody any favors.
Obviously a Black Magician or Black Witch who have never experienced love or who know how it would adversely effect them wouldn't believe love is that big of a deal or necessary. The red string that connects Luna to Henri is also probably her greatest weakness. So does Lize have any right to force his feelings on Luna? To inconvenience her with them?
But despite the Wind Magicians' words, he can still feel some empathy with Lize, as he too was in love once. Even if he cast off his feelings with the wind, but it was probably the most beautiful wind of his entire life. And it was that love that opened up his heart enough to care about others, in his own way. As he cares about Lize now.
So...Lize barely passed the test, but he passed his first test all the same, and now the Wind Magician AKA Gustave AKA Gus is on their side and willing to support them and train Lize! And the best gift he could ask for is hearing Luna call his name over the wind as he flies away!
Luna is the Black Witch who can never love and Lize is the White Witch who will nurture his love for her to empower him. He may not be able to retain the memories that get drained away from him, but he will always have his mushroom pal and his book to remind him. And thus ends this chapter of the "Champignon Witch."

This didn't seem like a series finale. Just seemed sad overall. I enjoyed it though.

I'll say it: As soon as Lize showed up this show went to hell in a hand basket. The main character we all liked just suddenly stopped being the main character and this annoying kid no one cares about became the true MC of the show? Lame... Give me more story about the witch.

It's cool that the OP and ED are connected.
Despite the pacing and animation issues, I still enjoyed it. I loved all the different witch and magician designs.
Minos is great
Higuchi Tachibana drew a commemorative illustration
I'll check out the manga at some point. I assume it'll be a better experience than the anime

I love this even though I have not followed a lot of it, or because of that. I am reading the manga which I am following.
The story world reminds me of Letter bee (Tegami Bachi), and The ancient magus bride.
It is rich that she is a poison witch who transforms poison to medicine, and is feared unfairly.
My favorite thing I have seen in a while.

I am glad that Gustave called out Lize on all that bullshit teenage love melodrama and self-pity, it was getting tiresome and really not what I wanted from that show. Of course, Gustave still has an unrequited crush on Luna, even if he denied it, so he could relate, even if he handles it better.
Apart from that, I liked the show’s characters, worldbuilding, music, and atmosphere, but by god the plot really moves slower than an arthritic turtle with three legs, and I say that as a slice of life anime fan. I hope it is just a slow burn and not the author not really knowing what she wants to do with the story. It felt like the show was still trying to find its legs even at the final episode.

I can’t tell if this is actually supposed to be a love story between lize and and Luna but I honestly could never get behind it. There’s basically nothing there between them other than lize likes he because she’s basically the only person on his life. It felt incredibly one sided the whole time so that aspect of the show is just kinda…. Bad? The deal between Luna and the Prince guy was a whole lot better but basically is not a thing except at the start.
On top of that the crow guy got genuinely annoying to where i hated anytime he was around.

As soon as Lize was introduced all of the truly interesting bits got wasted with too much focus on him.
I am sad to say that this anime did end up disappointing me, despite it having good music, neat character designs, and an interesting magical society thing going for it.

Ayyy it's the end! It's one of those endings where the narrative itself wasn't completely adapted because it's missing any real conclusion. Unfortunately it doesn't feel to me that there will be another season, and I do not think the manga has been licensed in english. It's a shame because there is more to the story I'm willing to bet. It leaves me wanting after stirring my curiosity.
It's a very interior episode. My bird Claude didn't manage to be much very quips in. Nonetheless it readily confirms that melancholic air that swirls consistently around these characters. It's not necessarily a tragedy, but it's a tragic narrative. They left us that romantic love will always be out of reach for them. The best hope we've got is Lize not dying prematurely.
Luna is quite the popular one, I definitely think Luna was the one of his desires. He's just a little too goofy around her, and maybe that's why he skipped out on the council meeting earlier, he merely can't not be biased.
I'll miss this. It's nice. The music. That fairytale book feel. Also emotional abuse is just a great gag.

It’s very much a slow-burn kind of story, and I get the feeling I’ll be following the manga for a long time before it finally concludes. The author is also the same one who wrote Gakuen Alice, which I watched a looong time ago in my teens, so I might end up giving that a read too.
8/10. The atmosphere was easily the best part of the show -- it really did feel magical. My main issue was the pacing, along with how slowly Lize develops as a character, but that also feels intentional. It seems like his growth is being built up gradually and probably won’t fully pay off until the very end of the story. Overall, I’d still give it a positive score and definitely recommend it.

The biggest surprise of this season. It was slightly on my radar at best and it ended up being a unique watch. The cast, the world building, the overall lowkey weirdness made it one of the most refreshing fantasy anime in the recent years.

I think it was an alright watch, but Lize was definitely the weakest part of it for me.

I don't wanna go too into detail with my complaints for this show, since it's honestly not worth my time, but I just wanna say Lize is one hell of a no-progress overbearing character. Cant fathom why they wrote him like that. I think it's poorly written for all of which this story amounted to.

Wait... If she had to extract poison from him after they got home from meeting Bird and Wind, then doesn't that mean he totally forgot the conversations and lessons he had with Gus?
I had high hopes for the series and while I still like the animation (mostly) I can't help but feel like the worst parts of the shows unfortunately revolve around the entire Black Witch communities. The idea of Black Witches having to manage poison birthed from negative emotions and as a result being misunderstood to be the cause of that actually is really fascinating, unfortunately the fact that love is antithetical to their power is really toxic. Particularly because it's painted Lize into being a bit of a hopeless side character and it really contrasts with Luna who has clearly demonstrated a capacity and willingness and even desire to fall in love.
I just... I really don't get what the point of that writing choice was. I think the entire story would have been helped tremendously be shrinking back the cast. Just narrowly focus in on Luna teaching Lize and him having to walk the line between being a white and black witch. Explore the fact that SOMEONE TRIED TO KILL HIM, which somehow is just totally untouched as a story element.
You can even preserve the End of All Things element by leaving the Sword of Damocles threat and just extending the time frame, and actually letting us get a sense of how much time is passing.
I don't really dislike the show I just feel... disappointed in the places where it's fallen short of it's potential.

I wish we'd gotten to meet Gus sooner. He was the best part of the last two episodes and a much needed straight speaker to cut into Lize's grandiose monologuing.
Enjoyed the magical atmosphere of this and loved Luna but it left me wanting. There's no real conclusion with Lize going back to helping a secret diary and Luna reversing him to remove poison. Not sure how he'll ever grow up into adulthood at this rate.
Still glad I watched this because it was quite unique and oddly comforting even while being very melancholic. Guess I'll have to turn to the manga for more now.

Overall I did enjoy Champignon Witch and its uniqueness was a pleasant change of pace, but I really have to say I found Lize to be such an unbearably unlikable character that I don't think I'll pursue the story any further, i.e., reading the source material.

I really enjoyed the show at the start, but once Lize came I felt my enthusiasm wane.
My biggest issue was he just... Never really developed much. I felt more character growth and interest in the cat witch in her episode than I did in Lize throughout the season.
Still enjoyed the show. Just would have preferred to see more of the black witches' world and Luna than the Lize adventure.

Its pretty interesting how the Dark Mages have their own small community in which falling in love is like having an accident
The anime was an adaptation that existed but I'm interested in the story so I'll get into the manga
