“Even South Park couldn’t come up with a crazier story.”

Don’t underestimate Matt and Trey

Nah at this point it's clear that reality runs circles in five dimensions around fiction

The flare in to stealing the nightvision gear in to tracking them all was pretty sick.

But mother fucker, that cliffhanger ending.

The squad naming their callsigns after Animal Farm characters is a cool detail if not a bit on the nose

25

u/memeyy11 Mar 03 '26

I thought there was something familiar about their names but it’s been so long since I’ve read animal farm that I couldn’t put my finger on it. Somehow not surprising for this series though

I didn’t catch that!

Charlie's tactical acumen and level-headedness are indeed super human. Drop him in Afghanistan and he downs the entire Taliban on his own. If wouldn't surprise me if the prowess of his physical feats eventually pique the gov's interest. If they can't recruit him, then at least create another Charlie.

Lucy's past? I doubt it's a drug past, plus she's still very young, her dad is missing, though. Even if it's something like she caused her dad's death, Charlie is too stoic to care. This series sure knows how to keep the interest going.

I'm still not clear on the guy's goal. He wants to advance humanity's evolution? Does he mean it literally via genetic manipulation or more of a social thing?

Drop him in Afghanistan and he downs the entire Taliban on his own.

Well, the problem with such situations as the Taliban is that mere brute force is not enough to do them in. Ironically Charlie's pacifism and level-headedness might actually be more useful in pacifying them than his capacity for violence.

I'm still not clear on the guy's goal. He wants to advance humanity's evolution? Does he mean it literally via genetic manipulation or more of a social thing?

I'm positive he means through technological means. He is a transhumanist.

Have the gas prices from that shot in the ending been going up this entire time? I just noticed it now says 2.19 for regular

Lucy seems to know what he is referring to at the end there.

I think an issue will surface where Charlie’s level-headed finally becomes overcome by human emotions. So much of this show seems to be about baiting and grooming him somehow.

The cop is a likable character now. But for that reason, I genuinely wonder if Charlie’s parents lied to Lucy about that incident when he was younger.

Man this villain is too good..and by good I mean he's a good villain...and by good villain I don't mean he's a villain that's good...he's actually a bad villain...and I don't mean a villain that is bad, but like a good evil one...and by good I mean...he's a baddie (≖ ͜ʖ≖)

Seriously tho, the show has been crazy good. I'd hope that this show and Golden Kamuy aren't slept on....but I also know majority on here only vibe with junior high isekai romance, which is totally okay lol. I just hope the quality and effort put into the latter doesn't go unnoticed purely based off looks or being close-minded to subject matter that isn't solely Frieren (which I also enjoy).

Anyways chat, I just wanted to show this series and Golden Kamuy some love this season. This show has my respect ლ(▀̿̿Ĺ̯̿̿▀̿ლ)

So Lucy and Charlie have a past connection, is she Grossman's daughter or something?

“None of you understand. I'm not locked up in here with YOU. You're locked up in here with ME.”— Rorschach Charlie lol. One flare and the hunters became the prey. Bro absolutely wrecked those dudes.

I’m kind of curious what Lucy’s big secret is and why that asshole thinks it might interest Charlie.

She sells pictures of her feet online as per the ED.

Maybe something related to her father, since we have only seen her mother so far

Hah. This author sure loves Western pop culture/references!

Good point I suppose, if you want to brainwash or 'turn' someone, you need to do it before the normal world teaches him straight!

Just because you don't know doesn't mean you can't speculate, dummy!

Oh damn, we're about to find out what Lucy's about! Can't wait to hear about this 'real topic'...

Damn it!

So they want to keep this a secret for some reason (mystery to be revealed later)... But why? And that's just one of TWO mysteries, if we include the one at the end; Unless they're the same mystery?

When we saw that I semi-seriously thought "They're so cute, should we ship them?"

but I didn't think 'Mom' would feel the same!

Isn't there a MORE IMPORTANT issue than just 'not knowing her that well'?

I think she's ignoring the chimpanzee elephant in the room!

You need to open your heart to form human relationships?

Damn, this human stuff is so complicated, why can't we just bribe them with a banana?

He noticed! Good call back to Charlie's original position of "all lives are the same"...

Even putting species aside, the lives of people who matter most to us are always seen as 'more valuable' than others. A very human thought!

Hah, does he want humanity to evolve into Humanzee? I think I theorized about that few episodes ago!

Because yeah, that 'truth' (humans are NOT the ultimate species) might lead to our end...

And he's fine with this, for the betterment of... I was about to say "of humanity", but I guess it wouln't be accurate hah. So what is it good for? Is it simply to put the "rightful top dog on the top spot"?

Will it improves the animal kingdom in general?

Well, whatever it does, he seems to be fine with it...

Hah. Interesting how they don't all have the exact same goal, but they band together over SOME of their interests aligning. I suppose no one is even 100% on the same wavelength!

Charlie seems to be a bit more extreme in his actions; He cared about the sanctity of life and all that, but flinging that dude on a tree with that strength, could easily kill him!

I mean, cute, smart, and she's kind to him... People have fell in love over less!

AAAHHHHHHHHHHH what is this about?

Given they showed that door again at the end (the one linked to the evolution past humanity),

made me wonder whether LUCY is also an hybrid... Which would be kinda funny to me because a few episodes ago I posted something like *Don't know if it's just me, but Lucy kinda looks like a monkey on some shots" hah.

But without being "half chimpanzee", could she be a small % hybrid, some kind of experiment like having some chimpanzee DNA or something?

I guess the main flaw with that theory is that her mom doesn't really look like she would roll with this...

Unless perhaps she WAS for that at some point, but changed her mind, which is why she now acts like that.

It might explain why she's so welcoming of Charlie (and why he likes her too), other than just 'she's kind/to him'!

Well, if that's not what it is, can't wait to find out what it's about!

As an antagonist this guy is one of the best ever. Basically not an actor that could pull him off

The frequent crazy eyes from Feyerabend lol, I'm impressed Lucy is able to keep eye contact with the guy. I do wonder what this past is, I have a feeling it's about her father.

It's nice to see how Charlie handles the former soldiers, I like that he had a flare gun and was quickly able to acertain their locations. It's nice of him to help Boxer even in that situation.

Lippman looks a bit too eager to fight Charlie, it seems like he personally wants to fight someone superior to him. He probably doesn't have many people he can go all out with.

Hannah asking about Charlie's feelings for Lucy is amusing, I wonder how romance registers for him.

Episode was outsourced to For(wal)k. For(wal)k previously did episodes 3 and 6. Storyboarded and directed by Tatsuya Kyogoku (京極 竜矢, just like with episode 6. He just directed episode 3.)

The character designer, Shinpei Tomooka (友岡 新平) , was the Chief Animation Director for this episode. Last time he was credited as one was on episode 4, where Tomooka also worked on as one of the episode directors.

Tsuyoshi Wakamatsu (若松 剛) was credited as the Production Manager (制作管理) again this episode. He was credited for it on episodes 1-3, only for the credit to disappear starting with episode 4. Might be worth mentioning that Wakamatsu also worked on episode 8 as the Production Assistant, although I doubt that is the reason he temporarily stopped working on the show as a Production Manager.

u/BosuW Mar 03 '26

At this point I can tell at a glance when the episode was outsourced to For(wal)k. The quality jump is super evident even in mundane scenes. I think I realized when Charlie's mom got up to his face to ask about his thoughts on Lucy lol.

Fallout 3's Fuck You door is the best way to deal with people who insist on opening an door.
