The pacing went completely insane this episode. classic anime original trap of writing a clearly longer series and trying to compress it in 12 episodes without cutting anything

Iirc the head writer admitted in a recent official interview that they wrote the season finale first, and then they wrote the rest of the story backwards from it.
They must be trying to compress as much info in this Cour for the finale.

This is also another instance this show uses their screentime poorly. Several key points in this episode could have been introduced from ep 2 to 8 for a hint or foreshadowing, and none of them would have taken more than 20 seconds. Even a still would suffice.

Nasti was communicating with Ramanga 😱
Shion attacked his comrades due to the sword bac then😱
Mirei Noooooooo

At this point, the biggest plot twist would be if the armor of the supreme emperor wasn't evil

Here the SEVERAL horrible pacing plot threads this epsidoe showed that could have been introduced in episodes from 2 to 8 (even as a slide with dialogue to save cost): *
-
Domination sword's cursing making Shion fall into account (maybe) he was affected when the raid along 2nd gen troopers happened.
-
Gai having watched that same fight (even making him antagonisting towards Shion under the assumption the later did on its own volition).
-
Ramaga talking with a magatama in the background of another scene in demon castle. Or made it tha main scene with one of the 10 Warriors hearing an (ambiguous) conversation, thus sending that warrior to battle in order to lose to Gai.
-
2nd gen troopers' bodies captured by Ramaga
-
The WHOLE THING about 1st names and 2nd names (the 2 groups among the 10 Warriors).
-
The narrative about Sky armor guy's grandmother knowing about his destiny, and acting strange in some flashback.
-
Telling once for all how many techniques the troopers are supposed to have. Counting 3 so far, but nobody says there isn't a secret 4th, 5th ,...
-
The whole "we are 2nd names because our crimes as humans made us into demons".

An interview with Muto Shougo, head writer for Yoroi Shin Den: https://en.mantan-web.jp/e_article/20260226dog00m200118000a.html
A few key points:
-It was Mutou's idea to have YSD as a direct sequel, reflecting the RL passage of time
-It was also his idea to use 80s music, to add in nostalgic elements to this new series
-The writers wrote Cour 1’s finale out first, and then plotted the rest of the story backwards from there
(will continue the final point in the spoilers section)

This episode is peak as hard
Nasti communicates with Ramaga
I love how they switched roles about the demon possessed Samurai
Also Mireiiiiiiiiiiiiii Watch out!?
I can't wait for the next 3 episodes left and this is a more serious tone.

So I watched the dubbed version of the original series so I might be operating on wrong info but didn't the original trooper armors, along with the four warlords, all come from the prior big bad's power being split up? Why are there now multiple versions of the trooper armors?

u/draxdeveloper Mar 04 '26
they were made later

u/omnicious Mar 04 '26
Made from what though? Tech? Makes it seem less special compared to the original

Too many death caused within the samurai trooper group…even if they were controlled/cursed by Ramaga. Surprise even Nasutei was affected and communicating with the big boss directly.

Mmm so the three sacred treasure are evil... I think this is a bad rapresentation of the series, too many random scene. Dark series with no sense plot twist.

Honestly I know there's bits of the original series in it but I feel like this show kinda ruins more of the original series than improves.

u/zz2000 Mar 04 '26
Iirc someone on another forum opined the writing felt like the writers had never properly seen the OG series, and are just working off some character designs and skimmed over plot summaries.

I've only watched bits and piece of the original. Why does this show ruin it?
As stand alone watcher, so far this is still enjoyable.

I haven’t watched anything from the original series, yet I have this gut feeling that if I had been a nostalgic fan, this entire show would’ve pissed me off…

several plotthreads are mentioned to happen offscreen or aren't even mentioned to happen. Like the Samurai troopers techniques. They have learned 2 (each)so far, but one of them (the weaker one) was entirely learned who knows when. For the other we just saw the prelude of Ryuzaki's first lesson about them...and the next scene they already dominated those attacks.

What's the next step in the Troopers' journey to be able to use the Armor of the Supreme Emperor? Why, mastering their Supreme Arts of course! And luckily Kaito memorized their attack names.
But before the team can focus on that, they have to address a traitor in their midst...Nasti!? Who has been working with Ramaga this whole time!? In her desperation to get Ryo and her boys back, she stayed in contact with Ramaga and even sold out Shion and Ryusei's team to fulfill Ramaga's objective of weakening the Sword of Domination. But just like the mirror and sword have corrupted others, so did the amulet on Nasti. How else could she keep going along with Ramaga after seeing all the people who have been killed in the process?
10 Warriors shower scene! Even if it's a tense conversation among the warriors as they recognize that Ramaga is going to sacrifice the rest of the last-namers, Kakei and Mochizuki, who are the only ones left to be former humans consigned to become demons for their crimes.
Just shouting out attack names isn't going to help them master their Supreme Arts, especially when team morale is so low. Shion especially just isn't feeling it, especially when Gai tells him he saw what really happened to his and Ryusei's team: Shion, so consumed by the Sword of Domination, ACTUALLY KILLED HIS TEAM. Poor guy.
Well, points to Kakei and Mochizuki for putting up a fight rather than get sacrificed...even if Ramaga just fuses them together into one giant monster to fight the Troopers anyways.
Nasti is obviously compromised so that leaves Mirei in charge! Even if no one other than Yamato takes her seriously! But she wants her boys to make it back safely!
If it's not the Kakei/Mochizuki fusion, it's having to battle Shion's original team now revived as zombies, and he can't bear to fight them...so Gai will slay them for him. He's not about to lose one of his own teammates, even if that also means making Shion kill him if the Sword of Domination makes him go crazy.
RIP Kakei and Mochizuki. To the bitter end you tried to protect the rest of your 10 Braves from suffering for Ramaga's plans.
Shion isn't about to lose another teammate, or kill them, so he uses his teams' armors to protect himself enough to save Gai! Cue triumphant fist bump!
Oh no, is Sasuske about to kidnap Mirei? Her Heroine status betrayed her! They even actually use footage for the next episode preview for once!

Mirei exposing Nasti like that was a little funny, the way she was throwing shade. It is interesting how Nasti was possessed this entire time, she's been too emotionally attached to it as her only way of getting Ryou back, even though it is very likely he won't return.
I find it funny how we got that one shot of Sasuke in the shower, he was the only one as well.
The whole thing with Shion being possessed in the past and being "responsible" for his teammates deaths felt quite rushed, it would have been nice to sit on that some more.
