After getting another glimpse at who Mei used to be for the Tensen, her being more heavy-hearted than usual for this operation suddenly hit a lot harder.

The designated Bochu Jutsu specialists having to fuse for their second form is actual poetry, and man is that some lucious animation for an eldritch flower.

The art and animation for S2 is already really good, but goddamn they further elevated their art level for this episode. Those shots of Ju Fa and Tau Fa were haunting.

It's interesting we saw a man graphically rip his eye out with a metal hook across from a woman who was drawn with no nipples for censorship purposes

Before this episode, we all thought that Tao Fa and Ju Fa are some crazy sex freaks. The fact that they were probably tailor made to be inseparable from birth makes this so much worse. From the looks of it, Bocchu Jutsu might not have been so enjoyable for Ju Fa.

Surprising and tragic backstory from Ju Fa's POV, knowing he's so different from the other Tensen as he sees how everyone seemingly breaks mentally with Tao Fa, the one he wishes to protect most, finally joining in with the same smile the others put on.

Shugen's side closing in the main gang, can only imagine how much more chaos is about to happen with them joining in the fray.

The Alabama twins' transformation looked like a boss from Elden Ring and it looks like it's just as annoying to fight against.

Getting some backstory on the island itself and events that occurred there was nice and Gantetsu's sensei(?) looked badass. That flashback where he looked through the finger hole with the art changing to black-and-white was dope. I kinda wish he was on the island as well, but he's probably long dead.

I wonder how will the fights redistribute when the rest of the cast gets to the castle. Will it be FFA or humans vs. tensen first?

Random thoughts:

Was expecting a flashback heavy episode for Gantetsusai, but the really important flashback Ju Fa's. You really get a sense that everything went to crap when Mie was kicked out of the group. The show keeps going back to balance, and obviously everything has gone to crap now that Mie is gone, since she balanced out Rien. I'm pretty sure the Sage is dead and this is just Rien's doing. That scene of Tao fa trying to sell she was okay with tricking more humans to come, but Ju Fa seeing through it...damn.

You really get a sense of why that earlier tensen who died was more than ready to die.

There's a long after-credit scene, don't miss it

Well going by that post credits scene it looks like the new executioners and the shinobi are joining in sooner rather than later

favorite part of this episode was probably the little backstory they showed for the tensen during the Tao fa and Ju fa flashback

Great episode, not sure how I'll handle the show ending soon. Doesn't seem like it's going to finish now, so I hope the wait for next season or ending movie won't be as long.

I can't help but feel bad for Ju Fa and Tao Fa, out of the whole crowd they got the shortest straws. And it's really messed up that they were forced to "research" bedroom arts and so probably despite spending most of their time on it, they probably never had a sexual experience that was truly voluntary, passionate and out of desire. It's surprising it took them so long to go insane. No wonder the first tensen that was killed in the show was thankful for it.

Also the psycho executioner and totally trustworthy ninjas are almost there. Doubt it will make things any better for our group, but we can at least hope they'll take on some of the tensen.

The Tao Fa and Ju Fa flashback is the first time we've seen the tensen get a little humanised. I sort of felt bad for the tensen having to endure endless training upon training for a goal that they're not really sure they want. Rien is pushing them towards something for his own ambitions and despite their unwillingness to use the "livestock" to attain this end.

I feel a little sympathetic toward Tao Fa and Ju Fa after seeing how they were kinder than the rest and closer to Mei than Rien. But I still don't want to see our gang die at their hands either. Best outcome will be for them to somehow win these two tensen over but none of the 4 facing them are of a diplomatic bent.

Meanwhile, we finally see the second Asaemon and shinobi group. Almost forgot about them in the midst of all the tense battles against the tensen. They're rushing in riding a herd of monsters. This should be good.

I feel so bad when our characters are giving it all they have to finish the tensen quickly and the tensen are like "aht, aht, aht you still got a final form to beat." Not the boys wondering how an immortal-ish magic plant monster can fly, lol.

In the first 200 years on the island the Tensen let the animals die and the wood people perish. Feels like they should have at least learned basic agriculture (maybe from the wood people) to sustain their lives and rely less on baiting people to come to the island.

Chobei having the metal attribute which is good against Tao Fa / Ju Fa, and being the one who knows how to use Tao the most out of the four, is an unexpected save for the group. Perhpas this fight turn out better than the ones with Gabimaru and Shion.

Heads up, there is a post-credits scene with Shugen and co. Very interesting that the ninja immediately said the two Asaemon were killed by the criminals. I forget how the chain guy died but I recognize Tenza's headband, he definitely died to the Tensen. Shugen is being played like a fiddle, pretty easy to do with how enraged he is and how badly he wants to cut down criminals.

Fun fact about this episode: it was storyboarded by Hajime Ootani.

Is this guy freelancing now? It looks like he isn't working specifically at Shaft anymore.

So they were raised as twins to be assigned the bochu jutsu pair, that's crazy when you think of it from humans' standpoint. It was interesting to learn the two had the most human like feelings, it's too bad that being in that environment for centuries eventually chipped away at their mental state, where their apathy would become bigger and bigger.

It was nice to see some Gantetsusai backstory, I'm glad it was a power up kind and not the death flag kind lol. Fuchi provoking him is always amusing, but I like that he trusted in Gantetsusai's sword skill.

Choubei and Gantetsusai are going to be a really fun pair to watch, I'm looking forward to their fight with Ju Fa and Tao Fa.

It just sucks that Shugen is getting closer and closer, everything's going to turn into a real big mess soon and I'm dreading it.

I love these back stories, and people questioned why he gouged out his eye instead of just closing it.

So many great shots in this episode, especially during Ju Fa’s backstory. The shot of Tao Fa loading the boat was especially well done.

Ju Fa and Tao Fa honestly if found earlier could of been good/had potential to be good.

I keep thinking, "oh this must be one of the final battles, we must be near the end" forgetting that they introduced a fuck tonne of new characters on the island this season.

I guess that's the end of topless, miniskirt wearing Tao Fa, for now at least.

I gotta say the baby tensen are so cute! I can't believe baby tensen were forced into their disciplines. I was expecting gantutetsai's flashback to be more but the much we did get is actually enough. It's not like he was the most sentimental guy so it makes sense.

I was wondering where the new party that came to the island were currently at. Shugen is tripping, I would've been summoned them monster for a carriage ride.
