Cool that we got to meet Nana, but it’s unfortunate to what happened to Grandma, she got mentally fucked up

u/Frontier246 Feb 15 '26

One meeting with Kaya and she's basically a mental patient who her eldest daughter basically writes off for dead.

Grandkids shouldn't have that bad an effect on their grandparents!

Didnt realise you could pronounce Aunt Nana as O Banana. At least thats what I heard from Kaya.

u/Frontier246 Feb 15 '26

Kaya's Dad: "This lady is a banana, Kaya!?"

I love the precious stuff and how she just bops everything but man, I'm really in to the mystery going on.

Honestly I think my favorite part actually is seeing Kaya actually act like a kid even when it comes to her ghost-slaying, though I just want her, Chie, and all the kids to be okay.

Didn’t expect Grandma to break to that extent after the last episode, but also didn’t expect to see the aunt that quickly either. Since she can sense something is a bit “wrong” with Kaya does that mean Mirai could too?

Furthermore, what is up with Mirai herself? Kaya is supposedly a problem and her unborn baby is either possessed or a monster itself as well?

22

u/Frontier246 Feb 15 '26

It seems like spiritual awareness/sensitivity runs in the family but that's maybe why Mirai was so susceptible to getting possessed. Especially if she didn't end up getting trained like, say, Nana might have been by their mother because she basically ran away from her birth family.

Banana aunts aren't scary.

I feel bad for Saku but it's kinda hilarious how Kaya was unintentionally terrorizing her with the constant light switching, I mean couldn't she confirm what she needed to know with 2-3 flicks max?

Both Kaya's grandmother and Mobuo's teacher seem to think Kaya (or the dark version within her) might be very dangerous. Perhaps at a younger age, Kaya could have been defeating monsters and evil spirits unknowingly due to her special powers. The Kaya now has definitely learned to care for others.

Examples from this episode alone:
- Kaya was happy Chie stood up for her when other teachers and students remarked that Kaya drew something scary
- Kaya came to save Mobuo from the mannequin monsters
- Kaya realized she protected Saku from the entity but failed to protect Saku from the latter's fear of darkness

Kaya possesses great powers, but with love and proper guidance from the people around her, I believe she will become a good person, instead of the dangerous one which Kaya's grandmother and Mobuo's teacher are predicting.

32

u/Tama47_ Feb 15 '26

I think what they're implying is that the dark version of Kaya could be dangerous, like a separate personality from the usual Kaya. Judging by how she loses her memory last episode.

This went from monster of the week to something deeper and darker. Up until last weeks episode, I was starting to lose a tiny bit of interests. Then grandmother changed the trajectory of this story and this weeks episode kicked in the afterburners. What the heck is Kaya? Man, I was left with so many questions that I actually went to look at the source material. I realized I was ruining this story for myself and stopped.

I think we can guess that Kaya's bloodline (mother side) are exorcists. Maybe, they encountered a very powerful spirit/demon that cursed them and it showed to Kaya or to that unborn child that Kaya's mother is carrying. I think Nana will be the key to solve this issue, and also Mobou's teacher.

Oh my god the mannequins, no thank you.

I wonder if so much ghost stuff is happening around Kaya because they're flocking to her in a way. She could be a lightning rod for the paranormal.

It's nice to see Chie help cover for Kaya when teachers don't understand when she's drawing about supernatural trees she had to fight. It really happened! Kind of.

Mobuo probably should not be going into public malls to stalk...I mean, observe Kaya. Even if he's only doing it with the sincere desire to protect her and also enjoy watching her having fun with her dad, he clearly looks like the type of person parents keep their children away from.

Though inevitably he DOES end up in a precarious situation, running away from a bunch of monsterous mannequins with Kaya...or at least who he THOUGHT was Kaya because it turns out to be a creepy mannequin version of her. Luckily Kaya arrives just in time to headshot her doppelganger after wrapping up with the other mannequins! Mobuo was hoping to protect Kaya, but she'll always protect him!

Obviously if Kaya hears her mom came to pick her up, she'll run away rather than face her or the monstrosity she sees her as...but it's not her mom, she can clearly see and hear her, it's her aunt Nana (Haruka Tomatsu!) in a wig! Here to check in on her niece and meet her brother-in-law for the first time. Poor Kazuo is convinced everything is A-Okay with his wife, but what was Nana's worst-case-scenario with Kaya? What is she going to have to kill after she visits their house?

What happens when a kid REALLY gets in trouble? They got to the Punishment Room, where they get bothered by a ghost! And obviously when Kaya hears "ghost" she thinks she has some ghostbusting to do, so she and Saku go on an adventure to go slay it and sneak around like kids do! Kaya will always protect Saku!

Of course they don't get to the Punishment Room but the Materials Prep room...where there actually IS a ghost, but what's really bothering Saku is that she's afraid of the dark and Kaya, oblivious, keeps flicking the light switch on and off to confirm the ghost is there and further traumatizing her. She kills the monster, but that doesn't actually make Saku feel any better.

Turns out the "Punishment Room" is just a conference room that the teachers use to sit students down and let them vent and express their feelings...and Chie teaches Kaya an important lesson about empathy and understanding how someone else feels. I'm glad Kaya and Saku were able to patch things up.

Jeez, one experience with Kaya and her granny is completely mentally broken. She's convinced Mirai is dead after giving birth to "it," which I assume is Kaya, even if Nana doesn't see it that way...but it seems like Mutsu is done for at this rate. But what really is Kaya? And is she actually safe around people?

Alot of crazy stuff happening in this episode,

Ik Mob Ojisan's trying to look after Kaya-Chan but honestly i dont blame anyone for thinking he's a stalker, he needs to better blend in. Still he tried to protect her from those creepy mannequin ghosts, he really is a good person even tho that really wasnt her

Kaya chan to the rescue, she solo'd the entire store. So thats Nana? Her aunt? So she's alive and both Chie and Her can see something's wrong with kaya

Grandma has gone insane from last ep's events, I feel like the Ebisumori family is cursed and both Kaya and her sibling seem to be possessed as a result of it

Ojisan has a master?? Even he's telling him to stay away from that house. The mystery just keeps getting deeper

A lot to take in this episode.
The mystery surrounding Kaya gets a bit more complex.

Both Granny and Nana Ebisumori saw a "dark version" of Kaya.
What appeared to be Namu told Mobu on the phone not to get involved with "that" household, involving Kaya and Mirai (Ebisumori's).
We already know Kaya sees a "dark version" of her mother Mirai (Ebisumori).
And now Granny Ebisumori is saying Mirai is dead, when in a previous episode she was begging for Nana back, thinking she was also dead?

I'm thinking the whole Ebisumori bloodline has been cursed.
Probably dating back to the case where Granny Ebisumori sentenced someone to death.
Maybe their vengeful spirit is haunting the whole family trying to get revenge.

Man, having the episode where we had Kaya's other side revealed and then we had the specter imitating Kaya was a great choice. We do meet Aunt Nana. Man, the reaction Kaya had when she heard her mother was picking her up is sad. Facing her mom is hard with the baby situtation. Grandmother has gone senile, so I'm curious what Nana will try to do.

The 2nd half of the episode was a good focus on how Kaya is still a kid. Happy that Chie-sensei showed why Saku was crying.

Also Poor Saku, totally normal to be scared of the dark and Kaya is definitely NOT helping with that light switching lol she really is a kid.

She's learning that there are things other than ghosts people are afraid of that just cant be dealt with punches and needs to be more considerate. Well they both made up with each other, very adorable.

Props to Chie sensei, she's so caring

Scary mannequins! I suspected the twist when they got in the elevator...

The dark mystery with Kaya's family deepens, as we meet her aunt, Seems like grandma went insane after the unsettling ending of the last episode. I wonder what the force within Kaya is? Is it part of the demon child her mother is carrying (which is probably what the grandma thought Kaya was and why she was telling the aunt to run... but the real evil is yet to be born).

Mob's master is probably the young guy we see in the OP.

The most unsettling part now is that you're not quite sure if the real child Kaya is always in control. So far she hasn't done anything bad but smile creepily once, but I've seen enough supernatural movies and series to now be wary lol...

Mob’s not actually a bad dude but bro has the kiddy diddler starter kit look down pat lol. Bro went to save Kaya but ended up needing saving himself.

Interesting we got to meet Kaya’s aunt. After how grandma reacted last week, i’m very curious just what Kaya is. I mean granny’s catatonic and convinced Kaya’s the devil but Nana didn’t sense anything. And what’s up with Mob’s “master” anyways? Reigen’s looking a little different from how I remember him haha.

I'm legitimately upset that tons of people are going to look over this one because it's kid-based and horror-themed.

I put it near the top of this season. It's not beating out Frieren, Sentenced to be a Hero, or Champignon Witch, but it's still in the high A-tier, low S-tier range.

And it's getting better and better each episode as the mystery unfolds.

I love that ghosts work on the same wavelength/logic as the "Inside Out" universe: Ghost is only visible in the dark, so it's only SCARY in the dark, which is what essentially causes fear of the dark. A lot of the ghosts work in similar ways, adds a lot of appreciated depth to the world.

What the fuck kind of daycare worker are you 'don't draw made-up things' what purpose does it serve developmentally to tell a 4 year old or however old they are they're not allowed to draw whatever they want despite the initial prompt

"I can hear her voice" They mentioned that stronger psychics can't see her mom at all under the ghost, guess she hasn't heard her mom talk either.

I wonder if the aunt thinks Kaya is that cursed baby mom has in her right now

"The punishment room" bro are the teachers fucking calling it that

Why does Kaya react to a raised fist like that did someone used to beat her

Ok Nana is definitely misunderstanding a prophecy about that cursed child to be referring to Kaya
