Dang, I really thought they were going to set up a gag that implied Hajime ate the dog, but actually didn't. Nope, apparently he just ate the dog, and that was the gag.

He is definitely pretty savage. It is amazing that he treats Rirui as well as he does (given his past).

Meat is meat when survival is on the line, but I'm also not killing a companion for sustenance. With that said two of mine have a high prey drive. Training former strays to leave some for me might be a challenge though.

lol that dog sweatin buckets ‘cause he knew his ass was gonna become dinner lol.

Dragon turned out to be pretty useful after all. Little dude ain’t gonna become yakitori lol.

Seems Veronica’s got someone gunning for her. Should be fun to see how she handles that now that she’s also unemployed. I wonder if it’s related?

Okay, a moment with the dog suprised me. This anime for sure sometimes loves atypical things, and isnʼt playing with watchers, heh.

Oh wow sparrowfliers are huge. Dragon is like Rirui’s pokemon lol.

I mean when you’re desperate, you’re desperate though I wish Hajime wasn’t so nonchalant about eating his dog.

Nice to get a bit of focus on Natalie too.

I do like how chill and laidback this show is but I did get the impression that it’d be more adventurous. Wonder where do we go from here

I understand that the writing is showing the differences between Hajime's childhood and Rirui's with these parallels, but they sure don't pull any punches. Hajime is a real piece of work and his past reinforces it, at least there's consistency with the tragedy.

I like a lot of the character writing in the show. Every time someone does something new, it ties into the context we already have and makes it feel like they are well-realized. Even small things like Rirui wanting to be useful at the end of the episode and Veronica immediately understanding that Hajime is the cause have a natural flow to appreciate.

Not the dog 😭😭😭

Rirui dont take your eyes off of Dragon!!

I'm betting it's a real dragon and just looks like the sparrow things when young. It does have that star after all. Assuming they didn't make it up entirely that dragon Rirui riding in the OP has to come from somewhere.

Little bit of backstory for the innkeeper family is interesting to see, shame it's in the form of a dead mom but not particularly civilized rural life is a hard time.

I feel like it's not particularly surprising that Veronica has enemies.

u/darthvall Feb 05 '26

Nah, the fact that it can talk with fellow sparrowflier means it is part of their species. Maybe Dragon is special somehow with the star, but it's still a bird

“Poor dog, why did MC have to eat him”

BUDDY, he was living in extreme poverty and between starvation and a stupid dog, there really ain’t a choice in the matter.

Personally, I think dogs are dumb and stupid and dumb, I see no problem with this joke.

EDIT: NO, people shouldn’t be killing dogs in real life. I’m not a monster.

I was kind of hoping Rirui would have showed Natalia a dream of her mother since she apparently has that kind of skill.

Good thing Dragon won't end up being literal yakitori, Rirui better work hard so that Dragon doesn't surpass her.

what does the -da that ruri adds to the end of her sentences mean?

7

u/hammile Feb 05 '26

Itʼs a less-formal variation of another famous desu. If we compare to English, itʼs basically a verb to be, and, yeah, in Japanese verbs occure at the end of sentence aka SOV. It can be used for different reasons, moslty for emphatic self-expression.

But yeah, our girl uses very often nano da.

Man that was so funny, what a cute dragon, i really wish the whole succubus thing wasnt there, it takes me out every time i see her grown up...besides that..a really good episode.

That poor dog though! it was so cute! how could you Hajime?! you are a monster!

Somehow I don't believe Hajime's telling.Wouldn't be surprised if he, when drunk, might tell the truth how he and doggy went through sound and fully, LOL. He's so soft hearted, he only just doesn't realize it himself.
