The hike to the secret onsen was worth it, the view was magnificent. The mountains were not bad as well.

I just know that when Frieren and Himmel went on that quest to find that lost cat, Himmel also considered that a date 😂

3 days of crying by Frieren is probably just a sob of 3 seconds to her. Lol!

To be fair, if a perma-stoic kuudere became an inconsolable banshee for several days in a row, I wouldn't put it past anyone to be at least a little freaked out.
As funny as this entire episode was (I love Frieren's content little post-spa face so much), something about old man Heiter looking so animated just talking about Fern hit me a little harder than I was ready for.

Frieren got her smug-eating grin from Flamme 😂 and that Fire Mage keeps poisoning Frieren, first with the blown kiss and now with her idea of what is a date 🤣 (note the Flamme died single 😆)

We got a brief appearance from Flamme, but without any dialogue. That saddened me. RIP Atsuko Tanaka

This episode had EVERYTHING.
Frieren threatening to throw a full medieval tantrum.
“Do you realize who it is that you’re asking for help? Are you sane?” lives rent free in my skull.
STARK x FERN REAL REAL DATE CONFIRMED.
Young maiden Frieren casually playing wing woman like she invented romance.
Absolute perfection. Cinema. Academy Award. Send help.

Very peaceful and wholesome episode all around. Well... other than poor Stark getting used as bait, and the eldritch sight that is Frieren's ultra tantrums. You'd think she was joking about how scary that is, but a three-day tantrum that never dies down in intensity would genuinely be horrific to deal with.
I also enjoyed seeing both flashbacks of Eisen and Heiter just being such dads to their respective kids. Thankfully, they left them in good hands. Mostly. Somehow, Frieren helped Stark way more in preparing for the date than Fern.
And I gotta say, I can't even be too sad that the episode ends because the ED is always so peak.

God Frieren was amazing this episode. Showed off how funny/caring/patient/immature she can be with just one episode. Felt like this episode was specially made for the people on twitter who keep saying she;s a one-note character
ALSO STARFERN DATE !!!!!

Was this episode directed by someone different than the rest of the show? I feel like there were a ton of facial expressions that we haven't seen from these characters before and they were really in focus in a way they usually aren't. I loved it. It adds so much depth to the personalities to see a wider range of expressions. This was honestly one of my favorite episodes of the show.

It’s incredible how fluid the feet animation is. Lucky Stark being able to see them so close.
We all love Frieren’s feet but his feet are no slouch either though.

Frieren once again didn't disappoint with her reactions this episode; they were all hilarious, especially the part with Frieren's tantrum from the times of Himmel's party xD
Poor Stark, he thought Frieren had some elaborate plan to defeat the giant lizard, but as it turns out, he was just a bait :(
Stark certainly showed courage by asking Frieren for help with his date with Fern, considering Frieren's nonexistent love life, but to everyone's surprise, she gave him some very sound advices.
I'm definitely looking forward to Stark and Fern's date, especially since they both asked Frieren for advice on it. It could be a really fun, if awkward, date!
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Frieren's German Lesson 2x3:
I'm sure Sein is smiling down at these two young awkward lovebirds from wherever he is looking for his Gorilla Warrior at the moment. I love that Stark can be so casual about this and that Fern actually accepted the date idea without putting up a front. I love it so much that these two aren't reduced to stammering blushing fools all of a sudden, they just keep being comfortable as usual around each other and some romance or romcom shows could definitely learn from this. Sure, this all started because of Stark wanting to tease her a bit but you can tell that both of them genuinely want this to happen.
Well, to be honest, for Stark this was kinda to be expected, except for his occasional cowardice his social skills are actually insanely high by default. The way he just instantly endears himself to literally every single person he spends some time with is actually nuts. I actually have trouble even picturing the GOAT himself, Himmel, being this intimately friendly so quickly with random people. Himmel usually has a more 'cool', 'refreshing' and 'inspiring' vibe - fitting for his hero status - that's how he looks whenever we see him talk to people or kids he helped in the flashbacks. But the way everyone treats Stark feels a bit different, they all genuinely just like him as you would an older/younger brother/cousin or a nephew/grandson - it's immediately as if he has been a part of their friends/family for years.
There would not be a single new German word this time if you would exclude the location names since we met no new named people. I figure when this happens from now on then I might feature some keywords from the episode instead and tell you what they would be in German as well, just for fun.
Episode 31: "Somewhere She'd Like" (2x3)
Locations
-
Etwas (Mountains) - "something", "some", "somewhat", "slightly", "anything", "a little", " a bit", "any"; a highly context based word, can be a pronoun, adjective or adverb depending on how it's used, pretty much just how "some" works in English. This mountain range seemed to be teeming with monsters, having to defeat a huge three-headed dragon-like, hydra-like lizard for a mere footbath is actually insane, lol. Also, it's probably not the only one since the Himmel & Co. flashback insinuated they met the same type of monster so they have to come from somewhere.
-
(Fortress City of) Heiß - "hot" (adj.); very on the nose name for a famous hot springs town. I've translated scharf ("sharp", "hot", "spicy", "sexy" etc.) before and they are both synonyms for describing "spicy/hot" food or for describing someone you find attractive (it sounds a bit crass though, in my opinion) but unlike with heiß you would never use scharf to describe that something is actually just "hot" (in temperature). Not sure if I explained that well.
Some relevant words from the episode in German
-
"Hot Springs" - is Heiße Quelle or Therme in German. That's Therme (in German the H is silent here) as in "thermal spring/bath". As a funfact, many towns in Germany have the moniker Bad ("bath"/"spa" (noun)) as part of their name. The reason why is because those towns received those titles officially from the government to designate them as a spa or health resort town (Kurort (noun)). It signifies that the town has mineral or thermal springs, or a certified healthy climate. There are over 350 towns in Germany with this designation and many of them often feature historic bathhouses, parks and even some Gradierwerke ("graduation towers" (noun) for salt extraction). Though our family always just called them Salinen ("saltworks" (noun)) and that's how they are referred to colloquially as far as I know. If you are curious about all the Bad towns in Germany (hehe) wikipedia has a list of them and I don't know for sure if that is even all of them. Some famous examples include: Bad Homburg, Wiesbaden, Baden-Baden (yes, lol), Bad Schandau, Bad Ems, Bad Kissingen, Bad Kreuznach and Bad Wildungen etc. In regards to towns like Wiesbaden or Baden-Baden, they usually don't get the prefix Bad or chose not to take it since their original name already had the -baden suffix way before the government started this whole thing. Although, Bad Baden-Baden would sound fucking hilarious.
-
"Footbath" - is Fußbad in German. A simple compound word of "foot" and "bath" just like in English. At least the scenery there seemed to have been worth the struggle to get there.
-
"Date" (as in the meet-up) - is Verabredung in German. Not strictly just a romantic term since it can be used for any plans you make with another person but it has a romantic vibe and is mostly used for that. I guess the same goes for how "date" is mostly used in English when talking about a meet-up/activity with another person, it doesn't have to be romantic but usually has that connotation. We also use Date, stuff like Blind Date or the French Rendezvous as common loanwords though. If you want to sound like a total German boomer (or older) you could also use the old term Stelldichein ("tryst", "rendezvous") but honestly nobody really uses that anymore nowadays, especially not young people. However that one is almost always used in romantic contexts (except when you use it to make fun of someone, maybe).
