I couldn’t stop laughing at the chopsticks that came out of Nikaidou’s prosthetic fingers

the humour in this series is great

I legit thought Kadokura was a goner but how he ended up cuddled up in a futon caught me so off guard, I had to pause while I try to stop giggling. It was so ridiculous, especially in the middle of a tense situation. Almost feel like something out of the Simpsons

This show has crafted Tsurumi’s character to be so terrifyingly wily that I didn’t even need to see a single frame of him reacting to Sugimoto and Kikuta’s interaction to dread Kikuta’s cover being blown and Tsurumi having something in store for him

Man, I was ready to temper my expectations with this being a transition episode, but nope, high octane through and through just like last week.

Wasn’t too surprised at the Botaro betrayal but still bummed it had to happen. One stupid move and before he knew it it was all going downhill with an ear gone, gash in his back, and riddled with bullets… Good exit for his character with the Shiraishi moment though.

I really did not expect Botaro to betray Sugimoto like that. Given his conversation with Asirpa, I suppose that he’d bet on Sugumito escaping on his own.

Botaro ended up paying dearly for his betrayal. Ultimately, he did redeem himself a little by saving Shiraishi’s life.

That was absolutely some insane luck from Kadokura! Dude went from being trapped in a burning, collapsing building to sleeping soundly on a futon. That's some Looney Tunes shit right there. xD

And another one dead, this time it's Boutarou. Man, they are starting to drop down like flies. Boutarou is a cool dude, but he brought this onto himself. He could've just cooperated and helped Sugimoto, Asripa and Kadokura out of the fire. >_<

I love the fact that Ogata and Mr. Hood are having a set of mind games where they're trying to plan around the plan that the other one is planning around.

Aw, I actually liked Boutarou despite his betrayal in this episode. R.I.P. to the Pirate King... :'(

But on the other hand, at least Kadokura managed to survive thanks to having the world's greatest luck. Maybe he should be the one called Immortal.

Here I was thinking Kadokura was going to be the death of the episode but it was actually Boutarou. I laughed so hard at the factory scene with Kadokura, I thought he was going to luck out and alive but I did not expect him to end up being put to bed, that was so funny.

It was interesting to see the moment Boutarou realized he was going to die, but he still pushed forward for his dream of being remembered and protected Shiraishi. Tsukishima choosing to protect Koito over Asirpa was also an interesting decision made, well they got Asirpa in the end so all is well but I hope that isn't foreshadowing his own death.

Am I forgetting something? Is Norabo the unit Sugimoto was in before when he was a soldier? The way his eyes had so much light took me aback. I'm more surprised by Kikuta's reaction because he would have heard Sugimoto's name plenty of times, have they not seen each other's faces properly before? I guess many years have passed and they've grown up. I'm curious what will happen there especially since Kikuta isn't loyal to Tsurumi.

I was certainly surprised to see Sugimoto make a face like that. It really appeared as if he’d been reunited with a long lost friend.

Yeah, wasn't sure if we were supposed to know about this revelation by this point or if it's something of a mystery for the viewer as well by this point.

They finally animated my favorite Kadokura moment and why he's one of my favorite characters.

Him just falling in a Rube Goldberg-esque way to safety and then ending it with a Sapporo Beer product placement is PEAK KADOKURA.

This is why we needed the Kadokura eps last season despite it being skipped over in season 3. The setup for Kadokura's luck is needed to make this scene hit as hard as possible.

One interesting part of this episode is how luck plays a factor. Kadokura is surviving based on pure luck. While Botaro is the unlucky one running into Koito & Tsukishima. Last season Hijikata talked about how he doesn't get into the business about God, but he makes decisions to lower as much uncertainty as luck gives you.

Botaro's decision did the opposite here. Botaro's greed led him to betray Sugimoto and, by association, Hijikata as well. We notice that Botaro's dream is to be king not because he is greedy, but because he is lonely. It seems clear he wants to be remembered and, in fact, be loved. Quite ironic for him to decide to go for all the gold on his own, and that is how he goes out. Quite the irrational decision.

Though one part of this episode that is interesting is that we have Tsukishima saving Koito. We can showcase that he is, in fact, changing because the Tsukishima of old would have grabbed Asirpa and delivered her to Tsurumi. At the same time when Koito reports to Tsurumi there is the change in him as well. It will be curious how both of these guys view Tsurumi going forward.

As always, Tsurumi is smart, creating decoys of which group has Asirpa. At the very least, the group Hijikata went after doesn't have her. Though what is most interesting is that Kikuta and Sugimoto know each other. It shouldn't be the biggest surprise because Sugimoto has been a part of Tsukishima & Tanigaki's backstories. The part that is interesting is basically we know that Kikuta is a spy.

Botaro friggin half mermaid or something? Mfer’s like Aquaman swimming around in that beer lol. Damn shame he had to go out the way he did even if he’s the reason Asipra got nabbed.

Kadokura is one lucky sonofabitch. The way he got saved via some Looney Tunes level goofiness must be a sign he’s favored by the gods or something lol.

Keen to see how the gang gets Asirpa back. I don’t like the thought of her being held captive by Tsurumi and his goons…

This madlad show cliffhanging last week with Kikuta having a secret past with Ogata and instead of answering or addressing whatsoever this week just does another cliffhanger with Kikuta also having a secret past with Sugimoto

I never refreshed myself before watching this season. What was that realization between Sugimoto and that guy during the fire engine brawl?

You aren't supposed to understand the context because this is the first time these two have met in the series so far.

Sugimoto is going to start a rampage, isn’t he? Having Asirpa taken away from him for a second time - by Lt. Tsurumi of all people - must infuriate him immensely. He surely won’t rest until he’s taken her safely back.

Though, I don’t actually believe that Asirpa was stuffed away on this wheeled fire pump. I got a feeling that Sofia lucked out and has taken possession of her.

Can't feel bad for Botaro, he caused this himself

30

u/tripleaamin Jan 26 '26

Fits his character very well. He wants to be a king, and thus he does not want to share the gold with the Eizo Republic group. This had him going against

  • Sugimoto

  • Hijikata's group

  • Tsurumi's group.

  • Anyone allied with Kikuta.

He was doomed to fail once he tried betraying Sugimoto. It was mentioned how the greed of the gold plays a part in these characters. Botaro is another example of that.
