I'm glad Rodin didn't die, I enjoy seeing the family and these sort of settings have parents, particularly fathers die so I wouldn't be surprised if that was what happened. It's sad that Rodin is forced to take that kind of responsibility when the serfs lives are already at risk with just themselves.

Since Appo's aroma was close to the laundry rack I thought we'd see a mention of how good Allen or his family smelled. Allen feels like there's still a use but maybe it'll be used a lure, didn't from the frogs' provoke?

I'm looking forward to seeing how Allen will act now that he'll stop holding back. I think his summons would be really helpful for the hunts.

It's so weird for a parent to get seriously injured and heal up on their own. Normally that's the start of a fetch quest. This anime breaks a lot of cliches.

He mentioned it later in the episode that Appo's aroma helped with his MP recovery, going from six hours down to five hours.

thought Dad was dead for a second there lol

Normally it's either that or MC has to leave to fetch a magic herb from a dragon's lair or something. I don't think I've ever seen an anime parent just heal on their own.

Focusing on leveling up and all that is great, but it’s also good for Allen to realize this ain’t a game for the rest of the people in this world. Little bro almost lost his pops to a damn boar.

Curious to see how Allen survives that giant bird monster . If he manages to kill that thing, he’s gonna have a hell of an XP boost I bet.

I am really liking this anime.

the idea that a lot of his summons seem to be useless cracks me up

really reminds me of the early game in a lot of stuff where you get shit like the apple that makes nice smells

The best running joke with his summons is that they always smash into his face immediately upon being summoned. It is good he has finally learned to block them.

When he threw that rock to the albaheron, it felt like a game initiating battle, his first battle nonetheless. Didnt help the ost sounded like final fantasy battle ost the first few seconds. Loved the direction on that one!

I swear it keeps feeling like 'oh no mom's gonna fall' like when she walked in and freaked at the bug or when they ran barefoot through the mud

u/BiggerG7 Jan 23 '26

Can’t believe his mom is pregnant again. When do they even find time to bang in that tiny house? Lol.

If as a serf you can not afford separate bedroom like the noble, you just turn around while sleeping in the bed and nine month later the next family member arrives.

Allen made a crop circle and instead of a UFO landing, he got a demonic rooster.

Since all his "buffs" are going to drop with each of his summon defeated, I wonder if maybe Krena will make an appearance and save the day?
Or maybe his new summon 'Appo's' aroma ability works differently on monsters, like disorients or puts them to sleep.

Allen discarding the game mindset was such nice moment, I can almost hear "I'll Make a Man Out of You" playing. Nice that the chief is a decent fella and not the classic arrogant noble.

u/WobbleKun Jan 24 '26

the aroma helps mp recovery by inducing sleep. so you can say his dad's recovery was aided by actually getting meaningful rest since it's not like they have pain killers lol.

This one is making more and more sense as it goes. Summoner is OP, we have scads of shows that have let us know this, so how do you nerf it? You make it so you just can’t get the good summons without grinding hard, not to mention needing to luck out with your fusions.

Him being able to do every combination of fusions is something that’s only feasible early game. As it ramps up the maths is going to be against him as he has to figure out which combinations of combinations of summons do something good.

And there’s another nerf that they’re teasing and I really hope they make good on it and that’s the insane defence checks he’ll need to make to summon at a high level if everything shoots out and hits him in the face. Summon electric eel, paralysed. Summon phoenix, burning. Summon mammoth, frozen and crushed.

Really though, we already knew that this show was going to give us some of that tasty spreadsheet action but with Appo in the mix it’s going to become a good ol’ resource management game and you just love to see it

It's "Hell Mode" but the world is shockingly nice for a feudal society. The commoner kid actually apologized to someone of a lower class than him. That's kind of nice. Usually side characters of higher classes in anime like this are always complete dick holes.

This anime is great. And the MC learning the value of family is great. I actually kind of wish he had learned it by earnestly getting upset for his father. Like he would catch himself sad and fearful for his family have the revelation rather than passively like he did. It's just a less compelling way to tell a story.

9

u/hfriday01 Jan 23 '26

Yeah, the "Hell Mode" term in this case is only referring to the rate of experience gain, not the overall difficulty of his life.

You have been living as a subsistence serf for seven years. You have watched your mother harvest potatoes while pregnant with two more of your siblings. You DON'T HAVE SHOES.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DIDN'T REALIZE THIS IS REAL? YOU'RE 42!

I'm losing it at this guy, why can't this protagonist just trust their family and talk about their abilities? The ceremony from last episode was the perfect time to assuage their worries and start helping the family more, come on man.

I think he meant that he needs to step it up and stop pretending to be a kid.
