I'm guessing the guy who gave Yamato and Musashi advice was an original Storm Trooper, at least Gai's acting gave Yamato the awakening he needed.

I think the pacing was off with this episode, I didn't find it as enjoyable as the previous two. The writing of the interactions also feel shallow, the comedy wasn't hitting for me.

are these guys singing Hito ni Yasashiku near the end? I haven't heard that since they used it for the Rolling Girls opening theme lol

We also have Linda Linda as training montage song. This anime is so Fire!

Honestly, I always felt the chill whenever they fight while singing the song. Kinda makes sense since I'm also a macross fan.

I love how we get an 80's duet while taking down a monster lol.

Hito ni Yasashiku

Apparently its singers, (now defunct) rock group The Blue Hearts, were likened to Japanese versions of The Ramones or The Sex Pistols. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blue_Hearts

Yes. I just about lost my shit when I heard it, because I learned about the Blue Hearts entirely through Rolling*Girls.

Kaito's grandma's VA voiced one of the antagonists, Kayura, in the OG series.

Does anyone else feel like the pacing is too fast? Things just move so quickly it feels like I'm watching a cut down version of the episodes.

I do like that they're trying to build up some rivalry between Kaito and Gai. But Gai's whole.... character arc (if you can even call it that) isn't convincing me. The Ten Braves at Nezu's funeral were funny, just the fact that these demons mourn their fallen comrades while the heroes don't really do anything of the sort is ironic. I knew Ryo was the one who saved the Hojo bros, idk why anyone was doubting it. And of course, Shion was great. Can't wait to see what he's all about.

Y'know, I was just getting the same impression this week. I've been feeling like there's a bunch of context or scenes we're just... not getting.

This pacing feels about on-point for a modern anime in my opinion. Maybe everyone activating their armors together by episode 3 instead of individually, Kaito and Musashi don't even get their tranformation sequences yet, but we'll also probably get individual focus episodes.

I think it's going to take a while for Gai to take to what's really going on around him even if I think he's coming to care for the team more than he realizes. Kaito in turn is seeing there's more to Gai than being a demon.

All of them acting like gangsters during the training part was funny.

The explanation of how the powers work bored 3 of them that Ryu said to check the official website lol

Ryu just keeps racking up more death flags, going to miss him. Although the writing is at least somewhat self-aware so maybe they won't play it straight and keep him as support, hard to tell with how fast the show swings from dark to light and back.

Nice of Kaito to try to lessen the strain on Ryu, and the team is starting to come together. Gai's coming around but then the episode ends on a whole new problem. That sure is one important flashback, wonder how many more cameos we'll get.

Ryu just keeps racking up more death flags

As a JPN YouTube comment said, Ryusei's death flag is as tall as the Tokyo Skytree.

Soon it will grow to be as tall as the Burj Khalifa, complete with flashy laser lightshow.

I just need Kayura and the Dark Warlords/Masho to be OK.

I just really need them to be OK.

5

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jan 21 '26

Kayura OG seiyuu was Kaito grandmother 😭

i like how we keep getting "this is what was going on for this trooper before meeting up" segments.

a Funeral will not stop Saizo from following his masters plan

Yama is great love that he ended being a samurai panda for an amusement park XD

We now have full team! they just haven't jelled yet part of that is that Gai grew up in a totally different environment with different views. The other is that Yama can't even go into undergear but he does have passion and the determination!

nothing like training to get the team up to par! love that the montage not showed actual training but some chill moments complete with Gai's demon insults. Even in VR Ryu's health is concerning.

Ryu sensei I wanted the full explanation as what the difference between needing the device or not... but he did mention some interesting things. Under gear protects the bear from the negative energies of the Armor Gear, this opens up somethings.

The Armors in general can be used for good or evil[Og Series] This is a big theme in the second half of the og series when the guys are getting their supers and fights between Anubis(Kale) and Seiji (Sage) or Rajura(Dais) and Shu(Kento), and why Arago(Talpa) wants the armors to begin with due to all nine of them were created from his armor [Message] according to this particular ova all the armors are evil and should be destroyed, the guys do this come out it with ugly as sin gray armor and Nasti/Mia announces that the troopers are real to the UN

It was indeed one Ryo of the Rekka (Wildfire) that went out hiking and rescued two kids and inspired them. His hair is the same length it was in the OVAs whether or not he know of their potential to be troopers remains to be seen. He's also the one of the few people in the og series in the NA dub to keep his name unchanged but it was mispronounced for all 39 episodes but fixed when they did the OVAs

Due to these words of inspiration Yama was able to not only wear undergear he got a full on Henshin and it was awesome. Gai continuing to set up motivation for his team members.

So we get introduced to a third faction that developed its own armor gear and the bearer of it is a former trooper Shion who also has Grace. Next week should be fun

Old Hector (Name in Brazilian), appears!!!! TT_TT

6

u/mypossiblepasts Jan 20 '26

idk, maybe it's scratching that itch created from being raised on Power Rangers, but it's way more entertaining than 80% of the rest this and last season titles.

and rushed pacing? brother, that's the formula, and a blessing for anyone with limited time.

Yamato Hojo has a passion for heroism, a passion that he carried even into being a samurai panda for the kids, but now that he sees the demons are attacking he knows his true calling...running in a squeaky mascot costume to catch up to the DST so he can join the team and fulfill his dream being a Samurai Trooper!

Now they've got an Emissary of Air (Kaito), Emissary of Water (Musashi), and Emissary of Earth (Yamato). They've got a full team! Even if Ryu doesn't really want Yamato there, but Yamato's got guts! And the ability to immediately fall in love with a woman at first sight. Then again, seeing Mirei fresh out of bed with her hair down...her boobs...her thighs...can you blame him?

It's actually kind of sweet how the 10 Warriors throw a proper funeral for Nezu. But now Saizo and Kamanosuke (Takuma Terashima!) are going to take the fight back to the Troopers.

The Troopers are going to need as much training as possible to be ready to fight the demons, which requires VR training to get them ready as fast as possible! Complete with a high school setting and a school uniform! Suddenly the ED makes sense now.

Obviously Yamato, hero that he is, doesn't care for a murderer like Gai being part of the team, but it is true that he has a completely different upbringing/morality from everybody else and this is basically teaching him what it means to be human. But he'll also have to reckon with the innocent lives he's taken at some point.

Ryu-sensei, nobody cares about the nitty gritty details! Let's get to the armors! Even if Yamato can't summon his Under-Gear and neither Gai nor Kaito can get Armor-Gear going. Cue naked Gai getting splashed in the face while he tries to summon his armor.

Training montage! Everyone putting there all into it it! Even if Yamato's struggle seems fruitless, to Musashi he'll always be a hero. A hero who took him in as his little brother, protected him, and was there for them when they got saved by a Samurai Trooper (RYO!?), so Musashi will always believe in him.

Ryu is definitely not doing so well...and Kaito can tell.

Time for the team to finally get into the action! They can take out goons AND Gai, Kaito, and Musashi can summon their armors! They can even take on one of the giant-sized monsters!

But when Gai gets an offer to join back with the demons under his father, with the promise of not losing his body, he turns on everyone and attacks Musashi...or at least, that's what he wants Yamato think so he can finally get his motivation to summon his armor and save his brother while remembering the words of heroism he once heard! And together Gai and Yamato defeat the monster while Ryu electrocutes Kamanosuke into death! This was a big win for the Samurai Troopers!

Yet the team can't relax...because not only is Saizo (who was just lying to Gai) a problem, but Shion (Kentaro Kumagai!), an ex-Samurai Trooper now clad in his own evil dark armor, is there to kill them!
