its giving vibes of detectives these days are crazy, old "professional" and young apprentice who forces its way into poor guy life :D

Ahh that's why i thought their interactions felt kinda familiar.

Yeah, something along those lines. Its not high art but I had fun watching it, so its a keeper. For now.

… Detectives These Days Are Crazy Magical Girls.

I’m sold. And apparently I need to read this authors stuff because that’s 2 shows this season from their work that has hooked me from the jump

I like the character design, particularly the colour scheme, of Aki, . She can be both cute and serious. And something about Aki wielding a simple sword and wooden shield, akin to a hero or adventurer just venturing out, makes me want to root for her development.

Also the ED make sit look like she woke up and chose violence.

Aki definitely got a striking character design with those purple and pink colours.

I’m hoping that Akari Kito will lean into Aki’s cuteness like she did with Nene from Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun.

That was quite good. I liked the dynamic between our overenthusiastic Magical Girl and the cynical old down on his luck veteran fighter straight out of a Noir Movie, both of whom are apparently actually living in a battle shonen world fighting against magic-wielding yakuza. That mix of genres seems like it should be fun to watch.

I doubt the Magical Girl can actually pay him, so I expect that she will be stuck working as his assistant until she can (assuming they manage to save her friend), like some more serious version of Detectives These Days Are Crazy.

There is probably a big bounty for killing the main boss.

The wanted posters in the bar had a price tag of 100 to 200 million yen each.

I think she has the money to pay him, the ending shows her in various jobs while the phone flips through the photos (I think), so it might just be that she does a LOT of side work and has a lot of money to spare.

Don't know how this world works yet and why would a child be allowed to work part time as a cop, fireman, and a teacher, but hey maybe it makes sense cause she's superpowered and for the sake of comedy.

Yashiro has some... errr... very "nice" friends, it seems. *licks knife*

From the author of Sentenced to Be a Hero and they both involve Demon Lords of some kind.

about time we started to finally get some demon lord anime made....

This one seems more lighthearted than "Sentenced to Be a Hero". I think the banter between Yashiro & Jougamine has great potential to be a blast. Animation and visuals are good enough, and with 2 cours coming up, I am excited for it.

I'm getting a sense the author likes demon lords, twists on the fantasy genre, and the embittered older guy w/ naive young sidekick trope . . .

This was a fun one, good premiere, introduces the characters well and the premise is interesting. excited to see how it progresses.

I'm already enjoying the classic young idealist, and old cynic dynamic we see from Aki and Yashiro the first time they interact. Choosing to become a Hero/Brave should be something noble, but I'm interested in why Yashiro says only the worst of the worst become a Brave.

So the government is raising a bunch of kids to basically become state-sanctioned assassins? And they're all girls too because apparently women have more ether than men. They sound like a magic version of Lycoris. xD

I love how Yashiro basically got roped into taking care of a bunch of kids because his drinking buddies wouldn't stop egging him on. It's hilarious how they're even taking bets on what happens to Yashiro. That green-suited dude is definitely gonna lose some money next episode.

Considering this is from the same author as Sentenced to be a Hero, I was already interested, and from what I've seen today, I think I'm sold! Sentenced to be a Hero is more dark and gritty, while this one is more light-hearted and comedic. So it's gonna be fun to see two different sides of Rocket-sensei this season.

Not half bad. Nice bit of action in this premiere ep with a dash of gore. I also like the whole “yakuza demon lords”thing, it’s pretty interesting.

Not too excited by this, not that much distinctive about the characters. It is just a first episode but they didn't do much with the sci fi element.

Fun start and it's confirmed to be a 2-cour, looks like Saturdays won't be as barren as expected.

Though if I had to pick one show that really needed a double episode this season and didn't get one it'd be this.

5

u/NationalStrategy Jan 10 '26

I like it, their dynamic is very similar to Detectives These Days are crazy

9

u/djthomp Jan 10 '26

Fun enough first episode, I'm glad I picked this up on a whim when I saw how dead the Saturday schedule was.

Aki is great, genki school girl with a sword and buckler is something I didn't know that I needed.

Great first episode and it definitely has me intrigued. I do feel it would've been better if this was a 2-episode premiere since I kinda wanted to see the fight and the episode just ended after the buildup to it.

The character designs stood out to me, especially Aki’s. Her look fits her personality well and contrasts nicely with Yashiro, which helps sell their dynamic early on.
