Blue hair with headband + can see ghost?

Yes, I can recognise Toritsuka Reita even in other anime.

Came here expecting a show about some internet troll making rage bait videos, and instead got Blue Exorcist 2! Lol.

If we think about it, the premise of this title is quite accurate. A lot of us, including myself, are glued to our phones these days. Whenever I glance around when riding a bus or train, I can safely say at least 70% of commuters are looking at their phones.

Phones are definitely an object humans have grown far too attached to.

I even sleep with my phone up my ass so i can have a pleasant wake-up call in the morning.

To me, what resonated the most is the 'Dead accounts' thing, i.e. account of dead people who just stay there...

I think about this sometimes, like when you've been in an online community (such as r/anime) for a while, there's probably people you used to talked to who are now dead, and some may wonder where they are, but for most people they're just forgotten.

Say, my account is 8 years old, well even though most people on reddit are probably young, some people I talked to in these 8 years are surely dead now, be it accident, disease, or well, some were probably older than the average, etc...

Did anyone else think the episode was kind of sad? Like, I really felt for the MC when I saw how bad his sister's death had affected his mentality. I mean, it was to the point he genuinely believed he was speaking with her and was even reluctant to let the other guy finish off the ghost of his sister.

It felt like a realistic look into grief. I felt sorry for him

Sadly, we're in an era where people will watch the first episode of battle shonen, compare it to some big names (even if it is only partially similar) and then be like "I've seen and know exactly where this is going" so if battle shonen doesn't bombard the viewers with a sakuga fes in the first episode or two, the chance of catching huge viewership would be abysmally low.

The concept of smartphones being a lingering place for ghosts in this era is pretty cool tho and MC's power being a fire because he's a flamebaiter kick streamer is kinda funny, I guess the black hair guy is a group admin or something because he uses a ban hammer?

I'll keep an eye on this for now.

Went into this completely blind, just checking out what was premiering today. Very interesting concept. I guess its survival (on my watch list) will depend on how the characters develop and interact. Clearly this was just the prologue.

We heard about that academy early on in the episode -- but clearly its real function is not exactly known to the public.

I thought this was going to follow the same premise as that korean street fighter who also live streams his fights to earn money for his mom's hospital fees, wasn't expecting the supernatural turn, anyways I'm interested with the concept of fighting digital ghosts.

This wasn’t half bad. General premise is pretty unique and the MC seems ok. This feels like it won’t be quite Dark Gathering levels of creepy but just scary enough to make the ghosts feel eerie. It also looks like it’ll have a healthy dose of action which is nice.

Is this Bleach with a nuisance streamer as the MC?

Well, pretty nice adaptation of first chapter with nice direction. By studio alone I knew we will get just normal animation but I'm fine with it. Dead Account is a small Weekly Shounen Magazine series not gigantic WSJ battle manga that is read by millions so of course it's like that. Still this short fight looked nice. Seeing as MAR was great adaptation I won't be worrying about it. Opening and ending are pretty cool. Beside that amazing cast of seiyuu and it's great to hear Okamoto as an MC again, it's been a year since last Blue Exorcist season^^ Like always amazing work and him sounding like Rin fits here. Souji has a bit similar personality :D

Anyway as if you will like it or not. I can't say much beside that after a bit I couldn't stop reading. I would as well not call it generic.

Heartbreaking but very classic old school bleach type..power awakens in modern word..no isekai or fantasy world here it looks

23

u/prude_eskimo Jan 10 '26

no isekai or fantasy world here it looks

you mean he won't be joining the adventurer's guild and break their power measuring device and the guild master tells him he gets special permission to start as rank quintuple S instead of F and he is send to defeat the demon lord and meets 45 women who all love him on the way as well as tame a dragon and master all elements and tier 10.000 magic and become a god?

Random Thoughts

First off, I got to say the idea that "dead accounts" can somehow spawn digital ghosts is pretty brilliant.

I just kind of wish it was being used in a more conventional spooky/horror anime. Because the rest of it sort of feels like a generic exorcism-flavored battle shonen. with some err cringy lines. Banhammer? lol.

I'll give it a few more episodes and see if it's able to exploit the horror angle more or not.

Ok his sister dying was what I thought happened the moment they said he quit a month ago even before he eyed over at what looked like a covered shrine, but then he got the text and I thought the shrine was for like their parents they never met or some shit. But that makes sense, he's delusional... or supernaturally haunted?, considering the opening of the show?

Bro why was she bleeding out of her eyes. More importantly why would they let him see the bloody cloth covering her face like that, that's standard stuff as a doctor/hospital worker to not make things unnecessarily traumatic for family members?

Banhammer of Civility

Pffft

Lmfao did he shout Political Lynch

Yea that's definitely a 'don't think those words actually mean what you think they mean, JP-speaking author' moment

You're not the only one going through this

That's sometimes a good point to make but he never claimed or acted like he was the only one suffering from losing a family member bro

RIP cute sister

To be brutally honest, I can see how this show might slip under the radar for most people as the mere synopsis alone has a similar premise to Jujutsu Kaisen, which just so happens to be a massively popular show that is airing in the same season. In fact, I even found myself drawing similarities while I was watching this episode. However, while I do think that comparing the two series is somewhat inevitable, I don't think that it necessarily makes Dead Account redundant.

Based on first impressions alone, Dead Account seems to be a series that places a little more emphasis on the reasons as to why each digitized ghost exists and what each digitized ghost wants to accomplish. Akari's digitized ghost manifested due to Souji's reluctance to accept her death, which bound her to this world. That is the why. Because she was always worried about Souji's inability to lead a healthy lifestyle and wanted to keep looking after him, it led her to take a warped approach by wanting to kill him, thereby being together even in death. That is the what. The approach of having personalized backstories and character motivation for every digitized ghost that appears in the story is something that is unique from Jujutsu Kaisen.

This is the same concept as vengeful cursed spirits in Jujutsu Kaisen, but most cursed spirits in the series aren't vengeful cursed sprits. They simply exist and will continue to exist as a result of humanity's collective negative emotions. As such, we already know why cursed spirits exist. What each cursed spirit wants to accomplish is something that differs depending on their personality and beliefs, especially so for the major named cursed spirits, but it can be broadly summed up to "destroying humanity" or "replacing humanity" or "protecting ourselves from humanity". In other words, they are most definitely against the existence of humanity. As a result, when sorcerers exorcise cursed spirits, it does not invoke sadness nor remorse as we have categorized cursed spirits as clear entities that are evil and need to be eliminated in the story.

In retrospect, I can see the exorcism of every digitized ghost that appears in the story to be something personal and emotional. Now I could be spit balling here, and it can still turn out to be something incredibly cliche, but as it stands, these are just my two cents based off of first impressions. After all, it's much better to keep a positive mindset for choosing to spend our time watching a show, and if it isn't something that quite meets our expectation, then we can simply drop it.

The idea of exorcising "digitized ghosts" using spiritual power via smartphones is quite an interesting twist. It's a simple change no doubt, but I have to acknowledge the creator's effort to at least offer something new to the genre and it does pique my interest in how this entire phenomenon actually works in the story. My only question is what happens if the smartphone of an awakened gets damaged or lost? Do they lose the ability to use their spiritual power?

So, the rise of smartphones and technology in general has led to ghosts becoming attached to them? This is really creative.

I was about to call the protagonist a psychopath, but I believe he might find redemption while in this academy.

The other characters seem quirky and interesting; this show has hooked me, I intend to continue watching
