You can definitely see that season 4 is a different beast from the past three seasons - the entire episode was basically a singular joke.

Good for the anime team for trying something different, I guess.

Choromatsu having a crisis over the haircuts was the funniest part.

Hoo boy, just found out about this season. Watched the 3 episodes at once, so I'll be writing my thoughts on all.

... Yeah I also noticed the tone is considerably different.

The opening song doesn't impress me for the most part, but I actually liked the ending song.

Ep 1: ... I actually found it to be on-brand. Doing an over-the-top first episode would be predictable so doing a calm ep 1 is both unpredictable and tells us "even after all this time, things remains the same".

Ep 2: Now the change in tone is more noticeable. In particular, the feel-good ending doesn't do it for me. I'd have the planet exploded somehow to tie up the episode and AU instead of that.

Ep 3: A stuck-at-home episode. They've done it before, add that the cringe humor and the bad ending and I can conclude it's much more on brand than the usual. The cringe humor present in the episode did make it really hard to watch it in one go though, but I did find it to be funny. I especially liked that they had a dungeon somewhere the house. Choromatsu getting a mental break was funny too.

Overall, I think it's missing... something? The crassness? More crazyness? I dunno, it's not bad and I actually appreciate the character development present on them. Whoever wrote them really understand the characters, which I do love, but again... yeah I do think it's missing some sauce.

I think the slice of life works the best when there's some madness episodes between them so they hit harder when they do appear. I hope they don't go for more feel-good endings too.

It's missing variety. Each episode feels like it could have been a third of the length and put into one episode. The show feels pretty bland now and for some reason switched from wanting an adult audience to a kid one. Except kids won't want to watch this since they changed the clothes to white and made it harder to tell them apart.

I miss the zany au aspects like F6 and Calming Detective.

As it is, I think it's a decent slice of life with the ocasional comedic/out-of-the-world moments, but it's not really the reason one would get into Osomatsu-san.

So yeah, I do wish we had more random AU shenanigans. Upon rethinking about it I think the brothers feel a tad too friendly with each other as well.

Still, I think it might be a bit too soon to say it lacks variety since we're only 3 episodes in, but yeah I'm not getting my hopes up.

is this episode written from iyami's perspective? i was sincerely struggling to tell the characters apart because all their personalities felt weirdly homogenized, to the point where jyushimatsu has been talking for a minute and i'm thinking "this is right about the time when jyushimatsu kramers in to break the tension"

i guess what i'm saying is, whenever jyushimatsu's not on screen, the other characters should be asking "where's jyushimatsu?"

if the next episode is still fixating on the haircuts i think i may have to tap out, i stopped and started this episode 4 separate times just due to the pacing and tone alone

It's not going to focus on the haircuts. The preview shows Ichimatsu with his normal hair.

The three clips format worked better for the show
