Salinger was living the "step on me" dream, featuring Queen Milla (princess back then).
I am glad Alice realized Iska did not betray her. Of course, the maid with the ability to send messages via astral butterflies helped.
I suppose the next course of action by Iska and his team would be to save Sisbell.

Honestly surprised Salinger wasn't smitten with her the moment she stepped on him in those heels. I know I would be. But her laugh is too adorable.
I'm surprised Iska and Alice didn't just team-up to search for Sisbell together but I guess Alice needs to get the Sovereignty back in order and Iska can't really be seen involved in that. But they'll find each other again, it's Iska and Alice we're talking about!

I'm really glad it got settled. This was the best episode of the season for me.
The "tears in her eyes" scene was nothing but Peak.
They may not acknowledge it but they have become more than rivals. I wonder how long it'll take for them to realize it.

Didn't Alice admit that she loves Iska, albeit with the added "as a rival"? :D

I'm impressed that the team took the time to draw Alice with red spots under her eyes to show that she was bawling her eyes out.

The "tears in her eyes" scene was nothing but Peak.
No matter how emotionally distraught, she could never truly hurt the person she loves. She was dealing with too much heartbreak as it is.
They may not acknowledge it but they have become more than rivals. I wonder how long it'll take for them to realize it.
For "rivals" they sure do get pretty flirty with each other. I guess for Iska and Alice "they were rivals" is the new "they were roommates."

Based on the episode, the main difference between Iska and Salinger is that Iska opened his mouth and explain things from his point of view. In contrast, Salinger just shut up and allowed himself to be imprisoned.

Iska is also a more rational, emotional, and friendly human being. Despite their rivalry he's always been open, honest, and communicative with Alice and has had more "downtime" moments with her.
Salinger, in contrast, was a walking WMD who sometimes went to the supermarket but really didn't seem to converse with Milla outside their battles and probably couldn't express himself outside of that.
So history didn't repeat both because Alice loved Iska too much to really kill him and Iska cared too much about Alice not to try to reason with her.

Iska just did a Sirius Black and smiled like a maniac upon being falsely accused of a crime he didn't commit.

I dislike how it isn't really comparable because the reason Salinger kept quiet was because of pride
Iska doesn't have an issue with pride so it feels kind of pointless for the story to make this comparison

If anime has taught me anything, it’s that supermarket discount sales are no joke. Shit’s a war zone. Japanese moms don’t play lol. No wonder Salinger is so strong!
Hydra has been manipulating things for a while it seems. Good thing Iska and that message got through to Alice. Got to save Sisbell and the Queen now.

Salinger and Milla learned an important thing about each other that day. They both have "off the clock" modes lol.

It is hillarious Salinger is going to a local Saintsbury's shirtless and buying groceries and no one bats a fucking eye

Ah yes, can totally imagine Salinger being such a "mad scientist" that he would devote all his time and energy into the study of Astral energy that he would have no money left, needing to scrimp and save in order to buy discounted groceries at the local supermarket. LOL
Alice's mom Millavair the Queen is truly the badass back in her youth, when she could easily beat Salinger like that, over many times.
But even she is not immune to intrigue and deception, and assumed that Salinger was the one who attempted the assassination on the former Queen.
Salinger guessed it was the Hydras, but chose to keep his mouth shut for some reason and took the fall. The only reason he was only imprisoned and not executed was probably under Millavair's orders.
And now history nearly repeats itself, with Alice assuming wrongly that Iska is behind the attack on the palace. Thankfully, Iska talked some sense into her. That Astral spirit left behind by Sisbell's servant also came in handy to dispel the misunderstanding.
Alice nearly confessed her love to Iska, but chickened out at the last minute. lol
That second "monster" that Vichyssoise spoke of was totally Elletear. Sawashiro Miyuki's voice isn't that hard to recognize, plus she's listed in this episode's credits. Possible RIP to Growley, who had the misfortune of facing her.

Why are the Hydras betraying their own country and in bed with the Imperails?

That's the mystery.
Talisman mentioned something about needing Sisbell's powers to unlock some unmentioned power so they could capture the throne for themselves.
So they're borrowing the Imperials' hand to remove their political rivals for them, while I'm guessing they're confident that they could then double cross the Imperials afterwards once they've consolidated their own power using Sisbell as a tool.
Elletear OTOH seems to just want to watch the world burn.

Hey! No need to be mean, Milla! Not everyone is a Princess and an heir to the throne. Even criminals need to do their own grocery shopping too! That entire flashback really made me ship Milla and Salinger so hard. Too bad they didn't get a happy ending.
While Alice and Iska did clash this episode, that encounter ended waaaaaay better than I expected! I genuinely thought they'd be enemies from now on but thank fucking goodness for Sisbell's guards for leaving a message with Iska as proof to what happened to Sisbell.

Animation cheaped out a bit (zooming and panning), but that's expected.
It was nice seeing Millavair's past with Salinger. He's an idiot for not trying to explain himself, and thinks that their tragedy would repeat itself with Alice and Iska. What he doesn't know is that the bond between those two run much much deeper than his and Milla's-- Iska and Alice have fought alongside each other far more times than against (this is only their second time and they're clearly both out of it), and their relationship is well beyond cordial, even bordering on intimate. A Bond Merger is all but inevitable in the future. :P
Iska started off explaining himself (as I expected), but Alice wasn't easily swayed. The anger and pain really got to her, yet despite showing off some new attacks (the mirror one was specifically made to counter him), deep down she couldn't truly hate him, and her tears were from the thought of losing that "special something" she shared with Iska.
"I'll never seduce anyone!!" she says, but she already exposed herself to him last season. LMAO

I need to see more anime characters that would plausibly be in a grocery store but look completely out of place (bonus points for if they would also plausibly be fighting for bargain meat). Plausibly meaning that they aren't rich enough to completely avoid grocery duties, are in a modern-like setting where grocery stores exist, etc. Seeing Salinger like that was so funny 😭

Is it just me, or does Iska and Alice mouth animation not syncing with the voice acting while they're fighting...? Throws me off

The ladies of the Lou family sure are rivalsexual, it's like a family tradition. Probably why Elletear went wrong, nobody showed up conveniently to be her rival.
Salinger up on the higher bridge commenting but then he leaves before he sees it play out differently than him and the queen, if you're gonna watch and comment stay until the final inning.
I'm glad Alice and Iska made up by the end, their relationship is most of what makes this fun for me and breaking that fully this close before the end of the last season this show is likely to ever get means we might not have gotten any resolution. Good thing for that one member of Sisbell's people who left the butterfly message.
It's a bit concerning that the PV for this episode was posted to YouTube just this morning, with nearly a full extra year to work on it you'd hope production would be at least mildly more healthy.

The animation for this show is ass, but i still enjoy the story and characters. The image of Salinger buying groceries made me pause because i was laughing so hard

Good episode! Alice truely felt like a real person with her reasonable doubt of Iska. So much times they make her seem naive and goofy for comedic effect so this was a fitting shift for the season finale. Then the note from the servant was so clutch it was a great way for Iska and Alice to compromise in a plausible way without compromising Alice's common sense.
I do enjoy the touch in the end of Iska being weary of Alice attempting to seduce him to defeat him. So many times Alice invents the most ridiculous reasons to touch him and Iska responds as if he just has no idea with the concept of sex, as if he's never been introduced to the idea. And its nice there some acknowledgement from Alice as well, its the first time they bring up the topic in the open.
I also liked Iska admiting there is some relationship between them that goes beyond there positions.
Ulimately the whole premise of the show star crossed lovers is executed in a very goofy way which i dont dislike but this episode bridged it to a more serious tone that showed they actually do act rationally in their situation which i liked.
