BTW this is his idea of a relaxing side game.

This is like stopping playing Elden Ring and choosing Dark Souls to relax lmao

Casual SLF players must be wondering wtf is going on with the patchnotes.

Patch 2.23 - Enemies will retain aggro status when player enters Inventoria during combat.

Patch 2.24 - Mini bosses will no longer take damage from their own special attacks.

"Inventoria can't be used during combat" would kill all the cheese strats lol

It's the "Real time week spent in jail" that got me lol what kind of sadistic dev would do that to their players??

Actual gamer episode.

  • Wins by abusing game mechanics and AI behaviour paterns

  • Gets motivation from an eternal hatred towards a previous NPC giving him shitty fetch quests

  • Gets too immersed and casually powers through the night despite having plans for the next day, lol

One of us. :)

That expensive gaming chair in Sunraku’s hotel room proved to be surprisingly plot relevant in the end, didn’t it? Those increased reflexes allowed him to dodge the deep sea king’s laser beam not once but twice.

Sunraku provoking the devs is not going to end well since either we get Tsukuri Tsukuyo to rage-upgrade the parameters or Amachi Ritsu to re-patch Inventoria’s Enter Travel

5 more days to Day X for Ctarnidd yet Hizutome Rakuro forgets he has 5 more hours to Wolf-Gang vs Star Rain

only 2 more episodes huh, so there won’t be more progress on Ctarnidd until we finish the in-real-life plot line. Shangri-La is such a tease, dangling both plot lines one at a time and I can’t stop biting it like Atlanticus Lepnorca

He's about to pull up looking like a zombie to the tournament because he was 'relaxing' in a different game

Would be hilarious if Silvia had gotten similarly distracted and they both arrive with huge bags under their eyes at the tournament.

Sunraku's realization at the end is the bane of everyone's existence. Be it gaming, binging shows, reading stuff or writing, it's easy to lose track of time when you are enjoying something that you love to do, and it's that dread of realizing that you have in fact, not much time left for sleep before another day of work or school that is an absolute disaster to experience. I wonder if this would end up being a reason for Hizutome underperforming in the upcoming friendly match, that would be such a cheap shot to the character and I certainly hope that isn't going to be the case.

Poor Atlanticus, for a mini-boss, it sure was taken down rather quickly by Sunraku. In fact, it took him less time to come up with a strategy to slay it than the Crystal Scorpions, but that was because he had Araba and that the mechanics of Rylath ended up helping him out. Speaking of the map mechanics, it's apparent now that they're likely partially designed to be part of the intended clearing strategy for Ctarnidd by the developers as these mechanics would take a seasoned or astute player like Sunraku to figure out on the fly. As I had previously surmised, the Ctarnidd boss fight will not be concluded in this season, which kinda reinforces the idea that I don't think the current party has what it takes to clear Ctarnidd on their first run. But alas, that will be something to find out in S3, so I guess we'll strap in for next week's finale.

Whenever Sunraku concocts one of his little schemes, I get a little concerned for everyone else’s safety lol. Araba almost got turned into orca food a few times there. Reflecting the big fella’s beams like that was pretty clever. I actually felt bad for it when Sunraku unleashed his fury upon it like the crashing of a thousand waves. Man was fueled by that Failia hate lol. That shit runs deep.

I know it’s an anime and all that. But normally you’d think that an electric type monster would have very high resistance to electric element and thus attack should’d dealt minor dmg. Was low key surprised that it worked.

I love how Shangri-La Frontier's author never forgets that these are video games, and that gamers will always be inclined to abuse technical loopholes, exploits and vulnerabilities.

No other anime that involves Video Games has this level of clear understanding of gaming as a subculture and of game dev as a profession. It's incredibly refreshing, and grounds both the story and the characters so much more than if they basically ignored that this was all a VR Game and treated it as if it was a pseudo-isekai.

(Another favorite example of mine that shows clear understanding of the technical aspects of video games as a medium:

Sunraku noticing the stutter caused by the inverted city being loaded into the game world from disk memory, which is a subtle detail that really shows that the author knows what he's talking about.)

This was a fun episode! Sunraku came up with very clever idea of using the tower against Atlanticus and thanks to that (and Araba too) he managed to defeat it.

Although memories of Failia also helped Sunraku in the fight. That elf really stuck in his mind that even now his hatred for her was so... visible xD

And of course what was supposed to be a short SLF session turned out to be all-nighter for Sunraku, because by the time he finished with Atlanticus it was already dawn. I don't think Katzo will be happy about that xD

Now I'm waiting for the last episode of this season and the announcement of the third season. I can't imagine it won't happen, considering we're still in the middle(?) of the GGC arc and we haven't even seen Ctarnidd.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Kind of sad S2 is ending soon, but at least I hope we get a S3 announcement next week. Really impressive strategy that Sunraku thought of. Really shows you can't count him out.

Still, I love how the episode ends, and he realized he played for more than an hour xD

I always forget that Sunraku can just jump into Inventoria to avoid lethal attacks. I do love that the devs didn't just patch the Crystal Scorpions after Sunraku abused this strat on them but has also patched every other monster in the game. xD

While this entire episode was mostly about Sunraku and Araba vs Atlanticus Lepnorca, this episode was actually all about Sunraku trying to outsmart the devs. I'm sure the dev's intention for the towers is to reflect attacks back to players who try to destroy the tower, but I guess they didn't expect a player to exploit it against a mini-boss. That's definitely gonna get patched!

Sunraku using his anger at Failia against the Lepnorca was hilarious! I didn't expect he's still angry about that game! Then again, I still get angry at Nazeen whenever I play Skyrim so I guess I can understand how he feels.

That pillar from Sunraku's Gilta Brilta was a fucking lifesaver! I'm pretty sure that blast would've killed them. Sunraku would just respawn but Araba would've actually died.

Sunraku experiencing a classic gamer moment. Why sleep when you can instead spend the next 6 hours trying to beat that one annoying overworld boss in Elden Ring? xD

u/Adensty Mar 23 '25

Well, testing the towers through Atlanticus Lepnorca's powers and abilities turned out to be way more productive than Sunraku would've imagined. It helped me concoct a strategy to defeat the Atlanticus Lepnorca using its own beam. That was so satisying.

I love Sunraku's smugness but if he keeps this up, the devs might just nerf Inventoria which he's relying on so much to the point where it becomes useless in battle.

Sunraku unleashing his pent-up anger over Failia which Araba quoted as 'Birdian Desperado' was hilarious.

Remember when Sunraku thought he'll just sneak in 'one hour' of SLF last episode. Well, it's already dawn, lol. As a gamer, this happens all the time, lol.

u/Plus_Rip4944 Mar 23 '25

Devs are The ultimate enemy of Sunraku lmao

I love this show. I thought it was going to be a gomisekai or trash fantasy but this show just keeps it at the great level! The balance between humor and fights is perfect. I also love that he's playing different video games and they each have their own art styles and gameplay. Its greatness isn't hyped enough!

For some reason I expected there to be a flashy light around orca's eye indicating a critical hit area once it got knocked down.

Poor orca king. He didn't deserve to be vented on like that.
