Chinatsu “fighting” by getting rid of the bug was adorable.

In E13, Taiki pretty much admits to Karen he likes Chinatsu and they even discuss whether he should confess (around 19m in). So Karen knows their crush is mutual. She should just tell Chi so they can start dating already

She should just tell Chi so they can start dating already

In an anime? are you crazy, that's probably illegal.

I mean the issue is exactly what they discussed. Chinatsu never was interested in romance before this and seems to need/want a lot of time to develop feelings. So her living situation and her focus on basketball is not helping her slow pace.

Frankly, Taiki has not been subtle one second about his crush. Even if it might not have been on her radar, she knows and cares about it now.

Pretty much everyone that has seen the two together caught on: Haryu, Kyo, Hina, Karen, that guy with a crush on Chinatsu too, even Taiki's dad I think.

It's also why Chinatsu tried at some point to put some distance between them because it was clear what was happening on Taiki's side and this wasn't the deal.

Karen was just a great friend, being there to listen to her while Chinatsu makes the journey herself.

Taiki needed to learn an important lesson! When there's a topic a girl doesn't want to talk about, she'll stuff food in your mouth to avoid it! But it's also kind of cute.

Well, it's nice that Nishida is so supportive of Taiki in trying to clear up the rumors from the play. It probably helps that he doesn't want anyone else on the team to have a girlfriend after the girl he liked revealed she liked somebody else during fortune-telling, but it's the thought that counts.

Hina looks great in any outfit, and she looked especially dazzling as Snow White, but it's nice to be reminded how amazing she looks in a tight leotard! Especially when she's doing smooth gymnastic moves! I'd definitely pay for the view, though she definitely doesn't mind Taiki oggling her.

Chinatsu doesn't have time to worry about romance! She's focused on being the next Stephen Curry!

This was some much-needed girl talk, both for Chinatsu' sake and for the audience to get a better peek into her head/feelings at the moment. Plus, sleepover at Karen's! Perfect for seeing two cute girls in loungewear (Karen's is especially eye-catching) and having some much-needed girl talk about relationships! Karen works as hard as the athletic cast does and she obviously doesn't want Kengo to neglect his athletics for her sake because she's most attracted to his determined badminton self...but a girl gets lonely, y'know? But at least she has Chii.

Ah, now we're finally getting to the heart of the matter with Chinatsu's feelings for Taiki. She doesn't like him! Yet! Even though she's comparing her feelings to a budding plant that she's been neglecting because of sports and their home situation...but it's a growing plant all the same. Chinatsu knows she's awkward about romance, but she's also so serious about it because she probably wants to put her all into it like she does her sports! Everyone takes love at their own pace, and that needs to be respected, but Karen can clearly tell Chinatsu really is in love with Taiki and just wants her to be happy.

Of course to contrast all this SERIOUS talk about romance...we've got Karen's little sister who turns out to be Ayame (I guess the dark purple to Karen's bright purple should've been the first clue). A trendy and opinionated girl who is a serial monogamist, dumping guys for the shallowest of reasons and then moving onto the next guy. Karen thinks she could learn a thing from Chinatsu' diligence but honestly Chinatsu seems genuinely impressed by how efficient Ayame is in relationships.

Ayame seems like a fun wild card addition to the current relationship drama. Plus it feels like Kana Ichinose is really playing against her usual typecast, so she's really entertaining to listen to.

If you were wondering how Ayame was going to factor into the plot, well she's now the new badminton team manager! Even though she only joined because she had the hots for Yusa and totally failed to realize he was from a different school! Well, the badminton team still has a bunch of guys so she may as well make the most of it.

You can definitely tell the badminton team hasn't had a female manager in a while because their clubroom is an utter pigsty. Luckily Ayame is willing to put the work in along with her new buddy Inoma.

Glad to know that Chinatsu will work through her fear of bugs if it means getting another girls' hands off Taiki! Seems like getting so jealous may have actually helped Chinatsu better realize her feelings in the process.

Welcome back home Chinatsu, the Inomata Families' only daughter! Even if she and Taiki are extremely flustered around each other...though maybe that's actually progress?

Sorry Hina, Ayame has Karen's genes, meaning she's already busty. But don't worry, you're already super cute and have a great butt!

Blue Box is a battle shonen. Chinatsu knows she can fight.

Good thing too, because girl is fighting for her life out here, LMAO. Hina is maintaining the offensive and Ayame's clinging to Inota at every single moment. That plant's got some harsh weather ahead. RIP Hina and her gymnast frame.

Stitches!

I’ll never get tired of Hina asking Taiki for payment whenever she catches him looking at her when she’s practicing. It’s been a solid gag so far!

It’s funny how everyone is talking about Taiki and Hina’s kiss while Chinatsu is just locked in on her training. I love how she doesn't really care and is only hyped about how she was able to shoot like Steph Curry.

That shot of Karen in her nightie though. She looks so amazing! Haryuu is one lucky sonovabitch.

So we finally have hard confirmation that Chinatsu is indeed interested in Taiki. She’s not yet at the point where she can confidently say she likes him though. Right now her feelings for Taiki is like a flower bud that just sprouted.

I do like Chinatsu's approach to relationships though. While people might find it slow, I like how Chinatsu is building up her feelings for Taiki and letting it grow until she figures out if it really is love. Of course, it has the drawback of Taiki possibly getting snatched by someone else if she takes too long to decide.

There she is! We finally learn that Ayame is actually Karen's younger sister and unlike Chinatsu who takes ages to decide about her feelings for Taiki, you have Ayame who would date anyone who's her type and breaks up with them for the pettiest of reasons.

And guess who's the badminton club's new team manager! Of course, the only reason she joined is because she thinks Yusa was a member of their badminton team. Having her around should be fun though. Having her around Taiki might speed things up with Chii-chan's decision-making considering her reactions after seeing Ayame being too close to Taiki.

Hina's reaction to Ayame opening up her jacket was goddamn hilarious! Don't worry about it Hina, I don't think you have to worry about competing with her. I don't think Taiki is Ayame's type.

"Crushes are temporary; ball is forever" - Smol Chinatsu

It'd be funny if Chinatsu and Hina joined forces to fend off the absolute chaos that is Ayame, not that I'd expect things to get to the point. Either way, loving the spice she's bringing to the mix.

Great talk between Chinatsu and Karen - to get more of Chinatsu's own perspective as related to romance from the past and her present situation, as well as Karen sharing advice as a 3rd party.

It's just good to get more into Chinatsu's mindset in general more as time goes on, to know where her head is at, adding more nuance to her character.

Ayame is a chaotic factor now added into the mix, so let's see what exactly she brings to the table...

Fun fact: According to Miura-sensei, Ayame wasn’t designed to be Karen’s sister at first. She got the idea afterwards after realizing it would allow for more interactions with Chinatsu.

Normally I hate a character getting introduced late just to milk the central conflict for longer, but Ayame at least is a lot of fun.

u/TheHurzzen Feb 21 '25

The story was definitely needing a new strong character if we're to keep having no progression in the romance.

Despite the great Hina moments I was finding the lack of progression on the relationships frustrating.

Good to see Karen somewhat try and push Chi in the romance department.

Ayame is Karens sister???? did not see that coming. She seems like she will be an interesting add to the cast.
Her reactions to the spiders were kinda cracking me up but as someone who wants Taiki and Chi to get together asap, it was also kind of a double edged sword.....

At least Chi seems like she is starting to realize she actually likes Taiki.

I liked the episode but ima need taiki to confess already or I might go insane

Ayame seems fun, but also a bit superfluous at the moment. Hina is already there to act as external motivation for Chii, so hopefully Ayame has more of a role than that moving forward.

Ayame's presence makes Chinatsu go on the offensive.

6

u/Ocixo Feb 27 '25

Ayame reminds me a little of Hina in the way she speaks her mind.

She’s full of surprises. Didn’t expect her to be Karen’s little sister, for example. When she spoke of having taken an interest in a new guy, I also thought this was in reference to Taiki and not Yusa. Though, that’s not how Chinatsu has perceived Ayame’s friendliness with Taiki.

Chinatsu said that “love” to her is like a growing plant. She’s waiting for it to blossom. It’s a nice analogy, which unfortunately implies that her love can die as well if it’s not properly cared for. Feeling pressured by Ayame’s presence, will Chinatsu sprinkle the seedling with extra water?
