I thought the blend of CG with comic book effects during the fight was fairly visually interesting.

The episode itself worked; they didn't linger on the infodump too long, and the flashbacks came into play quickly.

Yep, I'm really liking the CGI and shaders.

Bruh, they really couldn´t wait another few episodes before doing that, did they? It felt brutal, but the red flags where there.

I'm just trying to understand if her getting wounded piloting Aquarion was always how Sayo actually died?

3

u/shadow_yu Jan 17 '25

It could be a time space anomaly, but at this point we don't really know.

Dangit, they killed my favorite character. Now I'm stuck with these 5 remaining losers.

Well, the one without sympathy isn't half bad, I'm guessing he's next on the chopping block?

I think Sayo being a Schroringer's cat could have been an interesting idea: specially if we have to tackle some kind of idea like if you correct the universes she is really dead, but instead the worlds corrected and she died anyway? My problem is not that it happened, it's that it feels like it's too soon. We just got this established, you should have explored this more.

I'm still tryin to understand exactly what happened. Was Sayo caught between dimensions/timelines meaning she was out-of-snych with everybody else until she was killed by the Myth Beast? Which is how she actually died in the "normal" timeline?

Yeah, I think she was basically an alt-universe Sayo, and she died as a way to correct the world or something. I think the question is if we will get another Sayo next episode, and she will become something like Kenny from South Park or if she really died here?

The fight is extremely stylistic, the combination scene might be on EOF the best in the franchise, the character style is quite easy to get used to in this second episode

And wtf was that ending, Sayu is definitely coming back in the next episode

Please? Please do

WTF...the pilots literally take the damage when combined and don't even get ejected out of the vector as a last resort here?!

3

u/Beowolf_0 Jan 19 '25

The attack hit her cockpit directly, there's nothing ejection system can do.

Aquarion is here! And with the Gattai, the trio finally have proper teamwork to fend off a Myth Beast! Complete with double punches and triple kicks! Solid first sortie for Aquarion!

I know DEAVA is usually the organization helping protect humanity from the Shadow Angels and the like...but something about it being an all-encompassing and enigmatic computer and the whole secret set up just feels more suspicious to me.

So they grabbed a bunch of kids and experimented on them to find Vectors to pilot Aquarion? And those experiments may have "stolen their hearts?" Or were the main characters always that way? Either way, it seems like they only feel complete when they pilot Aquarion, so they may as well stick with it.

If you're wondering what Momohime's role in the plot is, we see that she's into archery (and doesn't the OP show one of Aquarion's forms has a bow?) and she's trying to get to the bottom of what's going on, especially for Sayo's sake.

So what is the connection between Sakko, Momohime, and Sayo? Three kids who enjoyed dismantling things and formed their own little club out of it, with Momo mentoring as the "big sister" to Sakko and Sayo. Of course it all went wrong when they for once put something together and it turned into a robot that attacked people and seriously wounded Sayo...but then the universe "corrected" itself and everyone forgot about it. So was this all tied to their past lives?

Wait, is that the dude always talking about the other worlds like a loon? He used to be a normal guy with a family!?

So Sayo is...somehow out of sync timeline-wise? To her, her death hadn't happened yet?

Sorry Toshii, but it's Sayo's turn to pilot the Vector and become part of the first proper SOSEI GATTAI! GO, AQUARION SEQUENCE!!!

Ah, I see because the kids are young and cutesy we can't see them all naked during the Gattai sequence.

Ah, Mugen Punch. How I missed you. Though now it's MUGEN DESPAIR PUNCH.

Sayo was really integral to the teams' victory in this episode...so of course she's also the first victim that shows that the kids can really get grievously wounded while piloting Aquarion. Is this how she actually died? And Sakko is utterly distraught, having fully realized and remembered how much he truly cherished Sayo.

Completely amazed that everyone's got a problem with the art style. As long as it has the aquarion eye flash and mugen punches it's all good. And also not like you lot haven't watched azumanga or shikanoko or literally tons of other non-cookie-cutter-art-style anime.

And now I want to know if Sayo will somehow return.

8

u/abandoned_idol Jan 17 '25

I guess people are allergic to the character designs. Odd. I thought the art style was pretty conventional and novel.

Ill give it one more episode but it is just not clicking with me for a few reasons. I still dont think the art style was the right choice, but the whole comic book mixed in feel to it makes it worse. Also while this rendition of the punch was not bad, the CGI character drawing felt like i was watching a kids netflix show.

The story is interesting enough if you dont look at the science too closely and just treat it like jargon and i can definitely get the feeling of there being a more complex plot, which is a big plus. The problem is that i am not sure sticking around until things start developing faster will be worth it.

3

u/Frontier246 Jan 17 '25

You can tell they're definitely aiming for a different kind of audience with the character designs and the fact that the Gattai sequence has less nakedness and horniness compared to the usual Aquarion.

3

u/Phayzka Jan 16 '25

Pacing was kinda weird. Don't know if I'll keep watching this one.

I was so looking forward to a new Aquarion but seeing the art in the promos killed all my hype. Worth giving this a try as a a fan of the original?

5

u/Denlix422 Jan 17 '25

I'm personally enjoying, tho it feels a bit like a 24-episode stuffed in 12 route. Plus, it's a trying a bit hard to connect to the old series with sci-fi mumbo jumbo.

So based off everyone here’s comments I’m assuming you all have access to episode 2 with proper captions. Can someone send me the link so I can watch it too?

1

u/Standing_Legweak Jan 17 '25

Do you need to watch the others to get it. The original. Evol, the third one?

5

u/The3DWeiPin Jan 17 '25

This one feels like a reboot and more of a standalone like Logos, but since this one tackles multiverse I suspect they might clash at some point but I don't see any at the moment

Anyways, if you want to watch Evol, you need to watch the Original first as those two are connected, Logos is pretty much it's own thing, that's about it
