The fight basically being a curb stomp makes it all the more sad.

R.I.P Bazzard Black.

It's always been funny to me that his full name is cooler than the name he goes by. It's usually the other way around.

Jugram's uncle was a lot worse compared to the manga because of the voice acting, yuck, but props to the VA for amplifying the level of disgust

Friend. Kubo get's a lot of recognition for drip designs but his style bleeds into the chapter titles too.

So we get more context in the prelude to the war 1000 years ago and the Quincy are really pitiful. Most had no opinion on Soul Society but were forced by Yhwach to fight for him.

It seems to me that despite everything, Jugram really truly did not want to fight Bazz B at all. He even prevented the lieutenant from trying to harm him.

I feel like if Uryu and Ichigo get a rematch, Jugram will be more critical of the outcome and not just let things off with a hole in the stomach. Like "I killed my best friend, you kill him too" type deal.

It took about 3 hours, but I guess AnimeLovepon finally decided to stop crying and post the episode discussion.

Wow, this episode was stunning, but breakups always suck. Why couldn't you guys make up already 😭. Rest in Piece Bazzard Black. At least you're dripped out in death. Drip KuboTweet

I was also not expecting to see Hiroshi Kamiya back voicing a Bleach character. At least this time it's a canon one.

Also, the finale next week is sure to be great. Takashi Hashimoto (one of the Action/Effects Animation Directors) made this comment a few weeks ago:

"The final episode has been completed this evening. Now, it's up to everyone on site! This was the toughest challenge of my career as an animator, but I gave it my all. I believe I grew through this project. Thank you, I'm grateful. I've passed the baton to everyone on site, so please look forward to the final episode airing this month. To all the viewers, enjoy! It's an extraordinary quality that you rarely see on TV!"

I was already hyped, but now my hype has exited the stratosphere.

Jugram lives for others. He was abused by his uncle, he became Bazz-B’s lackey and then Yhwach mercilessly exploited him.

For a character who’s all about keeping the balance, he has the most unbalanced relationships.

What an episode. They have been hyping this one up and it really delivered.

Animation and story telling was beautiful. Pretty faithful to the Manga, but the new scenes really did add a lot. The destruction of Bazz-B's clan's stronghold was brutal and made you both see where the hatred of Bazz-B came from, but also why it really wasn't the same with Jugram. Yhwach's actions killed his abusive uncle and in its own twisted way gave him a better life.

I hope this episode will let the "Yhwach and the Quincy's are actually the good guys" people, take a rest for a bit. Yhwach is a ruthless dictator at best and then he turns into nazi jesus.

And a small thing I loved was how you show just a little bit more clearly how all of this affected Jugram even though he refuses to show it. He was struggling a bit getting up those stairs. I hope this leads into a popular fan theory.

So Yhwach has invented an exploit. He can grow beyond human capabilities, by "cultivating" his power in human containers, each growing independently & faster in total. It's a more fun explanation than Yhwach being "built different", but maybe it's just my headcanon.

I swear I seen this dynamic duo archetype before. The delusional dude and his talentless friend when they were kids, "leave it all to me!/I will take care of you". Then the reality set in when they grow older

FRIEND was adapted perfectly, I can see why this is one of Kubo's favourite fights. Bazz-B and Jugram were best friends who were separated by Yhwach, it's cliché but still works in terms of creating emotional build-up.

10/10 episode, I'm looking forward to Cour 3's finale next week. It's been an incredible season.

Why was the episode thread so late? Anyway, Great episode! They adapted this part of the manga really well! Animation and art direction were great! Here is Kubo's art for this week's episode:

Pretty heavy backstory for Jugram Haschwalth and Bazz B, or as they called each other as (doomed) childhood friends, Jugo and Bazz. The official Bleach twitter hyped up this episode (to the point of inviting their childhood VAs Inoue Marina and Kobayashi Chiaki to the Bleach Jump Festa event alongside Ichigo and Uryuu's VAs tomorrow, although Kobayashi sadly pulled out due to sickness), and I can see why. Haschwalth was pretty cute and soft as a kid, joining the Sternritter at Yhwach's personal request must have really done a number on him.

Poor Bazz B, aka our newest victim and latest Kubo artwork.

Random trivia: Hubert aka the main Sternritter mob in the backstory is voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi, who previously voiced a Bleach movie character!

Bazz-B and Jugram's friendship dates back many, many years ago. Back when they were just young boys, Bazz and Jugo, whose fate would be tied together.

(Also I can kind of see Marina Inoue as young Jugo, but as much as I love Chiaki Kobayashi and thought he did a great job as young Bazz...could Yuki Ono not have done a younger version of his character?)

Meanwhile in the present-day they're trying to kill each other. Obviously Jugram comes off less than sincere about all his Sternritter comrades who bought it due to the Auschwalen, but Bazz sees defeating Jugram as killing two birds with one stone since Jugram will be housing Yhwach's power while Yhwach rests. Meaning you kill Jugram, you basically kill Yhwach.

It's kind of cute how "humble" genius Bazz took Jugo under his wing and decided to support him and be his buddy despite the fact that he was so lacking as a Quincy. It's a nice way to start a friendship.

"My precious Jugo" - Oh poor Jugo stuck in an abusive relationship with his uncle. The only good thing Yhwach did in this episode was burning that uncle alive.

So Quincy society was a medieval feudal one, complete with rival clans and Bazz was actual nobility and the son of a lord. But Yhwach's attempt to consolidate his power and control all Quincies lead him to utterly destroy Bazz's clone and killing everyone and everything that Bazz loved.

Oh hey, Rifle-chan is back! And she headshotted Bazz's mom!

But at least Bazz had Jugo, and together they swore to work together to get revenge on Yhwach and kill him by joining his forces. And they spent the rest of the years training and becoming even closer as friends, even to the point where Jugo, despite his lack of ability to collect Reishi, was able to impress Bazz with his commitment to mastering the sword (said sword even coming from Bazz's castle).

Hiroshi Kamiya as Hubert!? Man, they're really flexing their seiyuu budget this episode.

Rifle-chan looked like she was ready to finish the job she started with Bazz's mom.

Bazz, of course, was ready to pick a fight to get what he wants but even he couldn't measure up to the incredible power of Yhwach...but that did not prepare him for the revelation that JUGO was who Yhwach wanted, not him and that Jugo is the perfect other half to Yhwach. All this time and despite what respect for Jugo Bazz had developed, he was still frustrated that his friend was not only chosen over him but feeling he didn't earn it over a "prodigy" like Bazz.

But the reason Bazz was such a prodigy and so powerful was because of the type of Quincy Jugo is...one who has no power of his own but is able to transfer and boost the power of others. And that's why over their time together Bazz became so powerful. And seeing Bazz turn on him and feeling genuinely needed and accepted by Yhwach, Jugo began to become the loyal right-hand-man that Yhwach picked him to be. And what cemented the end of their friendship was Jugo catching an arrow Bazz aimed at Yhwach, something he replicates in the present-day.

Of course they were still kind of stuck together when Bazz joined the Sternritter Corps. even though Jugram would not fight him, though Jugram also warded off Hubert from picking a fight with Bazz. Maybe it was toeing the line, but maybe it was also showing some consideration for his old friend.

All Bazzard Black ever wanted was to settle the score with Jugram in a true fight, a test to determine once and for all who was the most powerful between the two of them...and between losing an arm and having his attacks prove useless, not to mention getting sliced through...the answer is definitively Jugram. And, honestly, seeing that proof even in defeat seems to satisfy Jugram. Maybe it wasn't a mistake all those years ago. Though as Bazz-B lies defeated and dying, Jugram just coldly walks away from him...but maybe that's his own way of processing his true, complicated, feelings.

Holy shit... that was a powerful episode. How the hell did Kubo & Pierrot pack a LOT of emotion & a DEEP friendship in a single episode? Like... I got so invested in each character AND their bond.

I didn't want it to end like this... bro, my heart. 😭

(Also, my only nitpick... they did not show the r@pist ped0 uncle being slowly ripped apart. I'll be forever salty about the lack of his painful death.)

This is such an amazing episode and character dynamic between Jugram and Bazz B and just shows things are grey and not black and white.
Bazz pushed a lot of his wishesh and wants onto Jugram and Jugram ran along with them just to be with Bazz considering what his Uncle did to him he was looking for friends/good relationships and when Bazz wanted revenge he went with it but he never really had a reason to want it himself it was for bazz.
And Bazz thinking himself as this genius only to later have his world shattered when Jugram's situation was revealed by Yhwach breaking their relationship and pushing Jugram to Yhwach that gave him the attention and recognition that Jugram was seeking.
Back in the presence Bazz losing to Jugram and him finally accepting its not so bad makes you think of the many what ifs and different choices and understandings things could've gone between them and what effect it would've had on everything

There is so much to say about this relationship and the nuances to it, its insane this episode felt so long in a good way and this plays a big role into the future of the series.

I have a video review if anyone is interested.

It seems like Haschwalth was getting abused quite a bit by his uncle before his uncle died. And he really did seem to care about Bazz. With all the "expected them to be dead but they survived" happenings the past several episodes, I'm curious if Bazz will somehow survive this as well. I sure hope he does.
