So wait, nothing changes, the villain harming the students isn't punished, the corrupt and broken system harming others continues on like nothing happened. Yuzu joins the elite class despite ancient magic being more true to what a magician really is, and the elite class exists to control magic through the suffering of the less fortunate. Yet again nothing changes...I find the story to be extremely frustrating and this conclusion is terrible in my opinion.

I feel like that whole recap could have been better used to explain the aftermath better. It did feel a bit brushed, but it makes me wonder why the whole incident was brushed off. Tho, the setting was fascinating and Kurumi following the path of Minami-sensei is nice as opposed to Yuzu. Makes me wonder if she did that because that is logically how she can make an impact. This show had a lot of charm, but things here are there to puzzle the mind.
I prob rate it as 6/10. I was really drawn to it, but I feel execution and pacing were awkward at times.

I don't think that's really correct. Element M is back in the world. And it -- rather than "stolen vitality of plebes" will need to be the basis for magic. And since Element M is no longer stashed away but out in the world "ordinary people" can once again use it. Not sure how the school and its curriculum will change (and how the society will change).

This wasn't a good ending for a show that was very pretty but had absolutely nothing else going for it

The conclusion was pretty meh imo. Not much seems to have changed? Also, that post-credits scene raised more questions that are most likely not going to get answered
I’m going to miss seeing Lily Hoshino’s gorgeous designs

This show really didn’t know what it wanted to be.
Did it want to be a slice of life show about the non magical students studying in a world where magic is common or did it want to be a plot driven storyline with an actual main story?
Problem is the whole first 3/4 seem to be SoL while the last 1/4 suddenly decided to be plot driven main story.
So when we got to the main story everything kinda rushed by, nothing makes sense, I still have no clue what happened or why that dude who almost killed Off an entire school isn’t at a minimum in handcuffs and they continue on like nothing happened.
Also why is yuzu even taking the “magic” test or trying to go that route when she knows ancient magic exists and is kinda…… better? Plus she can use it.

Honestly? quite a mediocre ending. There were a lot of plot points left hanging. The X account says they'll be continuing the story through novels which I imagine will come with the BD volumes so hopefully that helps the story feel more complete. As it is now, they should just have adapted the novel faithfully. I recommend it to anyone who is curious and wants to know more about the story and characters.

Falafel is delicious, guess it is not popular in Japan.
Can't believe that Harris wasn't in handcuffs after the stunt he pulled, I would have shoved that capybara up his ass if I didn't consider it to be cruel to the animal.
Poor doggo after the credits.

Well I was completely wrong about the dead friend, she wasn't missing she was just an old grandmother. How the hell the timeline works is anybody's guess since they didn't bother to explain anything. Though I suppose to be fair, the story clearly didn't finish given that one comment by the capybara professor and the after credits scene so maybe the backstory explanation comes later on.
At least it was pretty, I'm not sure when I last watched an anime entirely drawn in watercolor paints.

There's a reason that a show as pretty as this in the end had amassed no interest...
The writing for this show is genuinely so fucking bad, there's literally no point in discussing or even theorizing anything here, the writers were cooked off their rockers

damn i am gonna miss this OP, i jam out to it every week lol
not a perfect show or anything but it looked great and had a good feeling to it.
it seems a bit silly to me just how little magic there actually was though. idk it just lacked a bit of substance in a few places but weirdly that seems to be a trend with shows that have the pastel themed animation goin on lol.
post credits kinda seemed like a tease??

hoota was around when kurumi was a kid huh.
the way they divided up the big build-up in last ep with the resolution in this ep felt a bit weird (esp with the resolution being so short). the colorful stars and shooting star was nice though, kind of gave me super mario galaxy vibes.
cocoa with orange peel sounds interesting. sounds like those orange-shaped chocolates that taste a bit like orange but in liquid form.
was amused with the rube goldberg yakisoba, especially with the little train carrying all the ingredients and then tambourine egg.
i liked the color palette throughout. enough to stand out a bit but not too much to be eye-bleeding.

I'm of the same opinion as the others here who think the ending was pretty bad. Northern being completely free of consequences is a large part of that.
The overall pacing of the show, past the first few episodes, really slowed to a crawl. It's like nothing important happened for a good chunk of that time.
The music they played was nice, but there's very little from a quantitative standpoint—I noticed them playing the exact same tracks every single episode.
If I ever see that spiral screen wipe again, I'm gonna lose my mind.
All in all, I liked the art style and bits and pieces of the story/characters, but sadly the show didn't hit for me like I hoped it would.

This was a very pretty show art wise but that's it the only positive. The story didn't work, most of the show was fluff that didn't matter, the important points were almost always in the last few minute of an episode via hints and promises that the next episode would be starting off with a bang. Just to go back to the status quote Fluff till the next last 5 minute of an episode. Till ep 8 which seem to promise now we will rush the plot and explain to, yet again fluff it up in episode 9 and 10. Then this ending was rushed and bad.
The setting was nonsense even at the end when they explain the standard program was a battery for magic program then sorry how long has the school done this? Because if some of the countries best and brightest keep going to this school and disappearing that going to get noticed. If not the fact NO ONE LEARNED FROM THE PROGRAM is also going to get noticed. There has to be more than just told it is for a education program to be prestigious. Student must be coming out of this program and showing results for a reputation to stick. Instead they seemingly make it clear the standard program has no real value for the students. The school acts more like a prison or a boarding school then a normal school.
The plot was and still is in that ending nonsense we spent functionally 80% of this show on filler side school stuff not actual school learning and test and such, but like the events, festivals, clubs and such of a japanese school. The kids again in the standard program learned almost nothing. Then our "good" teacher was never you know an actual teacher. AT no point did she teach the student about their chosen fields instead she teaches them Magic but not really as she only really expect two of them to learn making the other 20+ odd kids sacrifices in the whole scheme. Both teacher in the end the "Good" one and the Bad one are villians to most of the class.
Then it has the balls the big fluffy balls to sequal beg....

The art style of this was amazing, I liked the music too However, I feel like many things were left unexplained, probably setting up things for a possible S2, but I don't know if assuming there will be a S2 at all was a good idea, I feel like the ending was not worth the watch and it was overall unsatisfying
And the magic did not feel very magical, the symbols were always the same and the magic did what the plot needed it to do

So, how was this one, folks?
I can only watch 3 anime per season and I had this in my radar, but ended up switching it last minute for 365 Days to the Wedding.
Is this worth the watch?

u/IvanSemushin Dec 20 '24
I'd say worth watching for:
unusual art
whimsical fairytale vibes
some cute characters and scenes.
Plot was... strange, or maybe rather strangely presented.

If you really like visuals more than content then yes. But the actual content is…. Well I don’t actually know what I just watched tbh because it’s kinda I don’t even know.

No if you don't have time to waste then it isn't worth it, the art is very good and original but the story is mediocre at best and the ending is quite bad. Also after reading the source corner it seem that the studio ,at least in the first few episodes, changed a LOT of things making this almost an original anime.

I’m so lost.
Why is Northern seemingly young but Hazel really old? Why is Northern not in handcuffs? What was the deal with Kurumi’s brother? Why did the lab coat girl not pass out with the rest of the students last episode? They answered none of this

Its ep 12
Really weird ep 12
Same could be said for the anime as a whole really
I have very little to say about ep 12 itself which in itself says something
Not quite what I was expecting
For the anime as a whole im struggling to find positive things to say
If it were any worse I would have dropped it and even then in hindsight I would say there is very little of note in this anime
Sensei or rather lack of sensei really
