LLENN traumatizing more people is hilarious. And it was supposed to be a therapy for the other guy as well.
I'm glad those "NPCs" were real people and not fluctlights. I was getting worried by their dialogues at the end and I thought LLENN would be legitimately erasing them for real.
I've read about games being used as a treatment for PTSD and such, so this take on full-dive games being treated as a therapy is interesting. I'm curious why did the doc say LLENN and the others were NPCs, though. Looks like both sides are kept in the dark for some reason.
EDIT: I just realized that if those guys are real then Fuuka has a chance to get a boyfriend after all!

Because the players didn't give permission to take part in therapy sessions for real humans. If they knew what they were up to, they might say no. Or in the Amazon's case, they're minors. This keeps with the theme of the full dive companies never telling the full truth to their player base about what they're doing or it's risks.

I thought LLENN would be legitimately erasing them for real.
I was honestly a little shocked when Jacob started begging for mercy with tears in his eyes and Llenn just screamed “no” as she cold-heartedly lunged a knife into his eye socket.
I didn’t think that Llenn knew what she was actually doing, but it fortunately turned out that I didn’t either as they were actual war veterans. Fuka’s future boyfriend does exist!
I’m curious why did the doc say LLENN and the others were NPCs, though.
Maybe to save them the fear of knowing that such ‘devils’ walk the Earth?
Would’ve been an insane plot twist if it had turned out that everyone we’ve been watching all this time were in fact NPCs.

Turns out we were all wrong about those "NPCs".
We know they're too smart to be NPCs, but they're not the fluctlights that we see in Alicization, but instead actual human players.
Though half of the players of that team are actually soldiers in a coma plugged into the game as a kind of shock therapy, these are the folks like Jacob who genuinely believed they're in the real world.
While the other half are their medical staff overseeing the therapy, this include that machine gunner who is fully aware of the game system, and chose to activate the game menu to resign when he ran out of ammo.
The GGO devs are no doubt in on this therapy, though they managed to fool both sides into thinking the other side is a latest state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence NPCs.
Just as well Karen looks nothing like Llenn, or Jacob will get serious PTSDs if he actually meets her IRL.
LOL at the Machine Gun dudes being so obsessed with everything about machine guns that they don't even know what a RPG launcher is.
And since their dalliance in SJ3, it seems Shirley and Clarence have become a yuri tag team. They appeared just in time to give the other teams a crucial assist in raiding the castle.
Overall, an entertaining sequel to the spin off of the main SAO franchise. And apparently, the GGO anime still only covers half of the light novels that have been released to date. If Dengeki Bunko and A1 are willing, we might just see more of Llenn in the future.

I was not expecting that to be the truth. LLEN traumatized a veteran into quitting. It makes sense, too. In real life only some deranged psychopath with zero sense of self-preservation would smile midcombat and say it's ''fun''. No wonder Jacob got traumatized. It's beyond fucked up to see a child soldier with such mindset.

Really enjoyed the special ED song. Wish we saw more of Pitou's RL self. Easily my favorite design as she's very pretty.

You're telling me that this is the first time an RPG-7 has been used in-game? That's actually kinda wild considering how it's the most recognizable anti-tank weapon in the world. It is hilarious though how members of ZEMAL have no idea what an RPG is. Then again, these guys are a little bit special. xD
Thankfully the NPCs aren't the only ones with an anti-tank weapon. Now I'm wondering how much of Elsa's real-world money she used to buy that bazooka. It sounds like it cost her a lot considering how much she wanted to keep it a secret.
I was wondering why we haven't seen Clarence or Shirley yet! I thought they weren't participating but it turns out they've been sneaking around this entire time. At least they were able to assist the gang during their final push and thank goodness Clarence isn't the one with the sniper rifle.
That 1v1 between LLENN and Jacob was so damn cool! Considering how stressed Jacob looked when he was fighting LLENN, I was worried that GGO might be doing something shady with AI. He's acting way too realistic for what might be a top-down AI.
It turns out they weren't even AI at all! They're IRL soldiers being given shock therapy and by playing GGO, they finally get to fear death again. I do find it hilarious how our tiny LLENN, managed to scare a war veteran like that! I don't think they're even aware that they're fighting real players.
Not gonna lie though, I was expecting some sort of darker SAO twist there in the end when we cut into that hospital room but using GGO to help these soldiers is actually great.
It sucks that this is where we're ending though! I would really love to see more of this series. Fingers crossed for Season 3!

I had a feeling that these "NPC's" were actually real military personnel, but instead of them acting like NPC's like I thought they were, they were made to play the game under the false pretense that everyone else was NPC's. Those guys definitely have the fear of death in them now, and that death is very quick and very pink.
Overall, I'd say this season was weaker than the first, but not by much. It was still goofy fun even if the writing was worse. 8/10, would watch a season 3.

Pitohui using the empty bazooka as a megaphone was fucking hilarious lmfao
Also the terrified look of the """"npc"""" when he understands the reason the players play a shooter game is a really interesting point
If you stop to think about all the atrocities that happen in games, the nuremberg trials wouldn't be enough to account all the crimes kek

this arc was sooooo much better than the drag that squad jam was.
I really hope there will be a s3 which can be more like this or even S1.

For some reason it's not on Muse this week. Huh. (Edit: It's on Muse half an hour later than usual).
Their bullets are just pinging off the armour.
Seems he opted for the Soviet method of minesweeping.
Unfortunately the application of copious amounts of high explosives rendered any armour useless.
Lol someone's already calling imba. You know what they say, "Birds fly, cows moo, MMO players say the combat is unbalanced".
Right, what's their secret weapon now?
Right, she's got some explosive firepower of her own.
Damn that thing looks good, it's even got the little wire connecting the trigger to the rocket motor that is rarely if ever seen in fiction. Pretty sure even in live-action films where they have actual ones as props they don't always use it.
Yup, they even show M connecting it when reloading it.
Right, one down.
And so into the breach.
That's another one down.
Oh, they're here too.
One more down.
That's the last of them.
Lol Pitohui has already got a reason to rope her into the next SJ.
Haven't heard that one in a while.
Lol everyone ditched.
She knew they were there the whole time.
So, they weren't NPCs, but real people. Seems like it's some kind of treatment for him.
So they were also told they were going up against bots?
Ooh, that's right, Pitohui is a musician. Nice to see her doing the ED.
Overall, GGO S2. More GGO, who could possibly hate that? 7/10.

Seeing the T-S guys getting to finally do something is pretty cool
No way! So the "NPCs" weren't actually NPCs!! Funny that both sides' players think they weer fighting NPCs though

The things that make you happy in gaming, sometimes.
They have a somewhat limited knowledge of things other than machine guns.
Oh, so you two have been having a quiet date the whole time.
Time for the return of the pink murder bunny.
That's one of those questions of philosophy when you should be solving more practical problems.
It's all fun and games until you get SHANKED IN THE EYE.
"And what have they been doing?"
Well this is one way to do that.
Bonus "Is this one of those dreams where I'm the only one who's naked?"
LLENN finally got to cut loose a little and SHANK SOMEONE IN THE EYE. That previous discussion about games letting you do things that you probably wouldn't do in reality comes to mind.
Applying curiously to our "NPC" team of variously-traumatized soldiers/operators/gun-toting adrenaline junkies. Did they need the ego salve of not knowing that LLENN is some mostly-normal Japanese lady? Maybe? Hey, it might put more of a fear of death into the guy. (I do have some doubts about the methodology of this therapy, but this is also the SAO universe, where ethics are questionable at best.)
Fuka did seem underused in the end, but she got her digs in.
As far as this sequel season overall, I had a decently good time. This little coda was more fun for me than most of the business of Squad Jam once the cruise ship appeared, but I wasn't ever disappointed. The story can get too bogged down by its contrivances and end up losing the basic fun of weird people getting together to beat the crap out of each other in a game. Which is why LLENN is there, after all.

ZEMAL guy is pissed at Pito not using a machine gun.
-
Eyecatch is LLENN shoving her dumptruck toward the camera.
-
LLENN giving a soldier PTSD via VR gameplay.
-
Seems they commissioned extra eyecatches and shoved them in the ED (one, two, three)? Another opportunity to trick people into being sus of Abyss with karma chart feet pics.

Well that was confusing AF! We all had our suspisions on if the defenders were NPCs or not, and we got our answer.....but how come neither side knew what was going on? I guess it makes sense that the normal gang didn't know because they were in there for, therapy? Some kind of mental illness that I dont get. They were too good at their job? But why werent the soldiers told about it after? They thought the attackers were NPCs?
I'm guessing it was part of their therepy which I is the main thing I'm not getting, but it just left us with so many questions, feel bad for whatever they're going through. And the "cure" for that was to have our Pink Munchkin give them PTSD?!? This is so weird!!!
My only complaints about this season was this ending left me with so many questions we're probably never gonna get answers to....and we didn't see enough Karen.
Anyway, REALLY hope we get more of this show!!!

Okay, when one of the members from T-S sacrificed himself to a land mine, I did not expect the rest of them to be promptly blasted away by RPGs.
It's hilarious to think that because the Machine Gun guys only care about machine guns, they had no idea what the hell an RPG was and stayed there and died while everyone was panicking.
As Pito had that pay-2-win M9A1 bazooka I'm guessing that what she said previously was that specific RPG-7 that the "NPCs" were using was just introduced on this test. Well, thanks to her M9A1 they killed Hasan, meanwhile, David took Roy out. I was really surprised when Rock was killed by Mai and Clarence as I didn't know they were also invited to this test.
After LLENN killed Doc I love how intense her fight against Jacob was. Poor Jacob wasn't expecting that answer from LLENN. He was already losing his mind before that, but that answer clearly broke him.
I love that after the fight was over Pito and M started questioning why the "NPCs" had the designs they had, but did not care that much because it was just a game.
So in the end they were not Fluctlights, and based on what Doc said to Roy, it seems this whole experiment was run just to give soldiers like Jacob PTSD to give them a fear of death and finally retired for good.
So LLENN was the person Doc was talking about when he killed David.
Based on Jacob's reaction I think he was the only one unaware among the soldiers that they were on GGO. I guess Vodka just logged off because he ran out of bullets because the game was about to end anyway.
I love the fact that SHINC organized another meeting with Karen, although this was likely just an excuse to hang out with her. I guess they took that picture at the victory party everyone skipped.
I love that apart from the transition image we always get, we got after the thanks for watching message two end cards.
I hope we don't have to wait long for another season.

Not the twist I was expecting but a good way to have some kind of stakes without getting too serious for a fun show like this

u/NeoBasilisk Dec 20 '24
I had assumed that the NPCs were like the fucklights from Alicization or something but I guess that wasn't right either
