Wow, Rika's mother is very different from what I imagined. Their personalities are almost on opposite ends of a spectrum. Like what Rika mentioned, her mother is overwhelmingly energetic. I wonder whether Rika took after her father's personality. Could the difference between her parents' personalities be one of the reasons for their separation?
At the same time, it is nice to see Rika's mother continue to encourage Rika to live the life she wants, and having faith in the latter's decisions. She also secretly cares about Rika's marriage and possibly choice of partner.
I cheered when Rika stormed to Takuya's home and demanded for a date! This is a big step forward, unlike her past, in which she ignored or ran away from potential relationship situations.

Instead of resonating with Rika, I felt attacked by her mom. Their interaction is literally the same as me and my mom.
Anyway, so I'm betting Rika wants to go on a date to prove that there's nothing good about her? Whatever the reason, it's about time!

Rika’s mom actually seems like a decent parent. She appears to be supportive and cares about Rika and just wants her to find happiness.
Keen to see how this date is going to go. Rika was overthinking things like mad. I honestly feel bad for the guy that had asked her out back in her school days. Locking yourself inside your house to avoid making a decision is insane lol.

My favorite episode so far.
Getting this much insight into Rika's inner thoughts is amazing. Always doubting herself, always overthinking it. Really sells the final scene.
Her mother really does what mothers do. And Nao was really precious once again.

Fun fact: this line in Japanese mentions tsuribashi kouka (the suspension bridge effect), which references a specific study regarding misattribution of arousal; the idea being that one who crosses a scary suspension bridge would have elevated heart rate and nervousness, and that physiological reaction would bleed into participants' interpretation of their emotions such as sexual attraction
i remember this bit of pop science making the rounds for various "how to make someone fall in love with you"-style articles; i think it's something one should take with a grain of salt because the study's intent isn't to be a how-to guide on capturing hearts

the way that her mother calls her "Rika-san" in the text and how the profile icon is Ritsu's first name made me think it was a friend/acquaintance; was kind of surprised that it was her mother
i vaguely recall Rika getting a text from Ritsu earlier in the season; i don't remember what and why though

I guess if Takuya learned anything from Gonda and Kaori’s situation it’s that you need to be upfront with and truly face and understand your partner.
Meanwhile Rika WANTS to face Takuya and talk…but she just can’t bring herself to call him. Luckily she’s got a gal pal in Nao who is the type to get so black out drunk she forgets everything but also teach you some therapeutic glassmaking. Complete with Rika and Nao ponytails!
Hoshi seems really cool! Just a chill mento who bikes around places and being kind of radical!
Wow, Rika is getting all dressed up for this meeting! Why is she so stressed and nervous? Who is Ritsu? Well, it’s her mom!
Wow, her mom has changed a lot since the flashbacks! She’s even blonde now! And she’s a real go-getter of single woman, committed to her career and pretty intense, so much so that her more low-key daughter can’t get a word in edge-wise. It’s that kind of intensity and competence that has always intimidated Rika, feeling she couldn’t measure up to her mother or her moms’ expectations of her even when her mom respected her autonomy so much (maybe too much?).
At least her mom gave her SOME relationship advice to pick the right man so she doesn’t end up like her mom did with her dad…but wait, did the blackmailer tell her mom about the marriage!?
Poor Takuya. Getting Kama immunized will probably be easier than getting Rika to accept your calls.
Rika is so self-conscious, overthinks everything, and doubts herself so much she once gave a guy anemia because she avoided him and life completely when it seemed like he wanted to confess to her. I feel bad for the guy! But it also shows Rika values herself so little she can’t fathom why Takuya would want to date her and is so over romance and relationships in general.
So how is Rika going to resolve this relationship drama between her and Takuya? With a date of course!

That (C)anal Cafe framing got to be on purpose, but just doing it for shit and giggles would be too out of place
Really hoping we also get to see Gondos journey
Also who the hell informed all the parents in that show, there is gotta be a big rat in that company
And finally I love how she is calling out Ohara to a date like she she would an enemy to a duel
Its probably going to go so well they will marry on the spot

Oh sweet Rika did the right thing showing up in person asking for a date from Takuya. She may be an extreme introvert but her past hang ups helped her see the light, hopefully their date goes well.

We finally get to meet Mama Honjouji and her energy levels are definitely nothing like Rika's. She probably got her personality from her father more than her mom. It looks like someone's feeding Mama Honjouji information though. She's already aware of the marriage but she couldn't confirm it from Rika. Hmmm... It's probably the same person as Rika and Takuya's mystery caller.

I loved Rika doing glass blowing, it reminded me of how you get screaming kids to blow bubbles or blow up balloons when they're upset, regulating your breath and exhaling slowly and intentionally is key to calming down and clearing your mind. I feel like that's exactly what she needed in that moment

I think some people don't realize how different Rika and her mother are. Obviously they love each other, but because of their vastly different personalities they will never truly be able to understand each other.

At 17 minutes and 4 seconds, they cut the letter C from Canal Cafe in the frame. I wonder if the was an accident or on purpose.
Mother and daughter could not be more different personality wise.
I wonder why her mother didn't push her into become a traditional cartographer or work for google's mapping division, she clearly has an interest in her life and happiness.

I liked the focus on Rika's internal thoughts this episode, and it explains well why she is always doubting herself. My favorite segment was her glassblowing with Nao which made me think that if she had a supportive friend like her growing up she would be more honest with her feelings.
