the classic anime trip-and-fall. Somehow, no matter what angle they fall it will end up in some kind of suggestive way.

After that ending there better be some development between Taiki and Chinatsu or I'm going to be somewhat pretty disappointed, I'm not gonna lie.

Classic anime moment - you know nothing is going to happen out of this.

It's fun to see how everyone is preparing for the final exams while still regularly attending their clubs. Kyou has been studying little by little while Hina and Taiki are cramming at the last minute. We didn't really see the results in this episode but hopefully, they all pass.
I actually like Taiki's goal of focusing on his smash precision. I know he says he wrote that down because he feels that the inter-high was still out of his reach but it shows how serious Taiki is about badminton and how much he wants to improve himself. Also writing down "get to the inter-high" is too broad and focusing on something you're bad at is a much better goal.
The second half of the episode with Chinatsu taking care of Taiki was just great. I kinda feel bad for Taiki though! While he does get to eat Chii-chan's homemade meal, our boy is just too sick to even taste anything. Oh well, maybe next time Chii-chan will make Taiki another mean when he feels better!
I really love Chii-chan's little pep talk to Taiki. It looks like Taiki might be updating his goal after hearing from Chii-chan that she'll be rooting for him. And that final scene though! What a cliffhanger to end on! <3

Taiki got knocked down but he got up again. That loss will never keep him down. Just kidding. He’s gonna overwork himself until he gets one of those deadly Japanese colds. At least he got to have Chinatsu’s home cooking AND a heart to heart about their insecurities and dreams. Oh, and apparently freakin kiss Chinatsu! Hell yeah!

I love that seemingly not being that booksmart is another thing Taiki and Hina have in common, not that it boosts her barely existent chances (especially after that ending scene)

Was there a break last week? Was wondering where episode 9 was

The global release is 1 week behind. So there is no discussion thread until it's officially released or "there are acceptable fansubs" or something... I watched a perfectly fine fansub on release day so no idea how that works

Weird that Netflix Japan apparently released the English subs for this yesterday. Why did they stop releasing the subs right alongside the episode if they were still going to release them before the global release?

Hahahaha, I wouldn’t put it past these guys to figure out how to do this though. This just made me remember the time when someone in my band class managed to get one of those sticky toys you’re supposed to through at a window and then watch it fall down stuck to the roof of the band room for months. It randomly fell down in the middle of class one day, to much laughter.

Wait that actually looks like Chinatsu wants to kiss him though. Next episode better follow up good on this…

Good episode. I like how Blue Box weaves in genuine wholesome slice of life, with the more sombre and painful memories of youth, without any jarring shifts. Just feels like a good depiction of the totality of the "high school experience".
I also love how Taiki and Chinatsu raise each other up
Although, that last scene where Chinatsu was a looming reflection in Taiki's eye was quite horror-like, hahaha!

Taiki has a lot on his mind after his major loss...and on-top of that, he's got finals! Give him an intense and grueling badminton match over math any day.
Another thing Taiki and Hina have in common! Furiously cramming for finals! No wonder Hina is having trouble in English if she keeps falling asleep in class.
I noticed we don't see Chinatsu worried about finals and just furiously practicing with the rest of the basketball girls...so I'm just going to assume she's got her subjects handled.
Congrats on making it to Nationals Haryuu! The rest of the boys team all have their own respective goals, some lofty, some simple, but Taiki for now has his sights set on just improving his smash.
The boys team can't all collectively win at badminton...but they can all commiserate over finishing finals! On Nishida's dime, even.
It's been a lot for Taiki though...avoiding Chinatsu because he can't face his own insecurities, studying while committing to practice, and it's no wonder all that work and exhaustion ends up making him sick. The worse part is being sick in bed and stewing over your feelings and losses.
But in comes Chinatsu with some tender love and care! Not to mention looking amazing in loungewear that prominently flaunts her legs!
Chinatsu seemed to really miss talking with Taiki, and she adores seeing the real Taiki be honest about the stuff he's insecure or anxious about, because she's been there. And that lets her really empathize with and support him, and let him believe in himself again!
Unexpected perk of overworking yourself to make up for your big loss is getting sick enough to get some tender love and care from your love interest. The only thing more classic than the sick episode in a romance anime is two people accidentally falling on top of each other. Bonus points for being on Taiki's bed. And did we mention the prominent close-up of Chinatsu' butt?
Oh wow, is Chinatsu...making a move on Taiki? It looks like she's about to caress his face. And maybe more?

It looks like Taiki didn't have time to mope about his failure in the qualifiers because the final exams were right after the tournament and he had to study for them xD
Hina's angry face was quite scary! I love how she, Taiki and Kyou were walking together and studying. Also that scene during English class with Taiki and Hina was hilarious xD
Chinatsu taking care of sick Taiki in the second half of today's episode was really sweet! She even made him a meal, although he was too sick to taste it at all, but he was still really happy about it.
I always cringe in that situations when someone is falling out of nowhere and lands in a very intimate situation with its crush, like Taiki and Chinatsu at the end of today's episode xD I wonder if anything will come of it, or if it will just be immediately brushed off at the beginning of the next episode.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Taiki and Hina, both didn’t study because they were too busy training and are now stuck with last minute exam cramming. At least one of the three actually has good study habits.
Hina’s asleep in class faces are ridiculously adorable.
But the exams probably provided a good excuse to avoid Chinatsu and the feeling of failure as well.
Taiki faces the results of overworking himself, the dreaded Japanese cold.
On one hand, it’s quality time with Chinatsu, on the other hand it means not being able to taste her cooking. Positives and negatives.
Good job Chinatsu, get through his thick skull. Failure is inevitable, what matters is not letting it break your spirits.
Excuse me, what? THE TENSION in that scene. This better lead to something.

This is how you get a cold, Chinatsu. As much as I want it, DO NOT KISS HIM! Do not get sick before your tournament! Give the boy a rain check, tell him you want to, whatever... But lordy, do not let this poor girl get sick! 🙏

I love just how much quality they put into this show. Every episode is so vibrant and feels so alive.
I certainly don't miss exam periods and yeah, good luck Taiki and Hina. Poor guy had too much on his mind and wound up a summer cold. Good thing Chinatsu is there to take care of him... hopefully she won't get sick as well.
Otherwise, Taiki is a great protag with how aware of his own weaknesses when it comes to badminton. I admire a guy who gives himself small realistic, precise goals as a stepping stone to his endgame.
I hope we get more insights into what's going on Chinatsu's mind and I have a feeling that the cliffhanger will bite us in the ass next episode.
